  • The adsorption behavior of tris (dimethylamino)-cyclopentadienyl-zirconium (Cp-Zr) precursor using an in-situ attenuated total reflectance-Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FT-IR) was studied. In attempt to improve the detection intensity of an adsorbed precursor, nanoparticles were uniformly distributed on the Ge ATR crystal surface employing the spray method. The absorption characteristics studies were carried out over the Ge crystal temperature in the range of $30{\sim}50^{\circ}C$. Upon increasing the temperature, a reduction of absorption was observed. Based on the peak intensities of ATR-FT-IR spectroscopy, higher-$ZrO_2$ absorption efficiency occurs when the nano-particles are utilized compared to pure Ge crystal.

  • Carboxylic acid group gradient surface where the density of carboxylic acid groups changes gradually along the sample length was prepared. Carboxylic acid group gradient surface was produced by the treatment of low density polyethylene sheet using a corona with gradually increasing power, followed by the grad polymerization of acrylic acid. The prepared gradient surface was characterized by the measurement of water contact angle, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy in the attenuated total reflectance mode, and electron spectroscopy for chemical analysis.

  • We investigated the surface modification method for the preparation of organic-inorganic hybrid composite thin film. Gelatin obtained from the decomposition of collagen was allowed to adsorb in a polystyrene tissue culture dish for 2 h to from layers of gelatin. Supersaturated ionic solution of calcium and phosphorus was injected on the gelatin adsorbed layer to form calcium phosphate thin film. During the initial period of incubation, nucleates were formed. With increase of the incubation time, CaP (calcium phosphate) thin film grew on the surface of the culture dish. The gelatin/CaP thin film displayed the highly porous three-dimensional surface structure. Attenuated, total reflectance Fourier transform, infra-red spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR) was used to analyze the chemical properties of CaP film. The analysis demonstrated that the CaP film formed at initial period of treatment appeared to be amorphous. With increase of incubation time, the crystallinity of the film was slightly increased, but the presence of the peaks for the low crystalline CaP confirmed that the CaP thin film prepared in this study was poorly crystallized.

  • Terpenoids, also referred to as terpenes, are a large family of naturally occurring chemical compounds present in the essential oils extracted from medicinal plants. In this study, a nondestructive methodology was created by combining ATR-FT-IR (attenuated total reflectance-Fourier transform infrared), and Raman spectroscopy for the terpenoids assessment in medicinal plants essential oils from ten different geographical locations. Partial least squares regression (PLSR) and support vector regression (SVR) were used as machine learning methodologies. However, a deep learning based model called as one-dimensional convolutional neural network (1D CNN) were also developed for models comparison. With a correlation coefficient (R2) of 0.999 and a lowest RMSEP (root mean squared error of prediction) of 0.006% for the prediction datasets, the SVR model created for FT-IR spectral data outperformed both the PLSR and 1 D CNN models. On the other hand, for the classification of essential oils derived from plants collected from various geographical regions, the created SVM (support vector machine) classification model for Raman spectroscopic data obtained an overall classification accuracy of 0.997% which was superior than the FT-IR (0.986%) data. Based on the results we propose that FT-IR spectroscopy, when coupled with the SVR model, has a significant potential for the non-destructive identification of terpenoids in essential oils compared with destructive chemical analysis methods.

  • This study is concerned with the graft polymerization of acrylamide onto the surfaces of polyethylene and polyethylene terephthalate films treated with on corona discharge. In the case, peroxides formed by the corona discharge treatment are likely to be the species responsible for initiating the graft polymerization. This treatment produced a continuous charge in wettability and also amid group density on the polymer surface, as evidenced by water contact angle measurement, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy in the attenuated total reflectance mode, and electron spectroscopy for chemical analysis. Both of the merely corona-treated film and the subsequently grafted film are discussed as a function of time after treatment and water washings.

  • To improve mean-life and reliability of power cable in this study, we have investigated chemical properties showing by changing the content of carbon black that is semiconductive additives for underground power transmission. Specimens were made of sheet form with the three of existing resins and the nine of specimens for measurement. Chemical properties of specimens was measured by FT-ATR (Fourier Transform Attenuated Total Reflectance). The condition of specimens was a solid sheet. We could observe functional group (C=O, carbonyl group) of specimens through FT-ATR. From these experimental result, the concentration of functional group (C=O) was high according to increasing the content of carbon black. We could know EEA was excellent more than other specimens from above experimental results.

  • Studies on the formulations of the additives such as antioxidants, crosslinking agent, and trans-stilbeneoxide (StO) with polypropylene (PP) have been carried out to improve the resistance of gamma radiation sterilization. The irradiated PP and ethylene-propylene copolymers samples with control and additives were characterized by mechanical tester, colorimetry, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy with total attenuated reflectance mode (FTIR-ATR). Crosslinking agent and StO formulated PP showed remarkable radiation resistance and minimum discoloration. Also, radiation resistance of ethylene propylene copolymers with 3% of ethylene contents was better than that of PP homopolymers in the case of no additives. The proposed mechanisms of radiation stabilization with additives are also discussed.

  • In this study, microstructure and gel content (C-C) of polybutadiene rubber (PBR) were investigated using various techniques including ASTM D 3616, attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared spectrometry (ATR FTIR), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR). The ATR FTIR spectra of the samples were investigated to determine the cis, trans, 1, 2-vinyl and the C-C gel content in PBR. The absorbance ratios of specific peaks in different grades of PBR were correlated with the C-C gel content measured by the ATR FTIR techniques. Physico-mechanical and rheological properties of rubber compounds based on BR with various amounts of gel were determined. The results showed that there is an acceptable correlation between these properties and the C-C gel content of PBR.

  • The kinetics of photoinitiated polymerization of dimethacrylate macromonomers have been studied to determine the diffusion-controlled reaction parameters using attenuated total reflectance-Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR). A predicted kinetic rate expression with a diffusion control factor was employed to estimate an effective rate constant and to define the reaction-controlled and diffusion-controlled regimes in the photopolymerization. An effective rate constant, k$_{e}$, can be obtained from the predicted kinetic rate expression. At the earlier stages of polymerization, the average values of kinetic rate constants do not vary during the reaction time. As the reaction conversion, $\alpha$, reaches the critical conversion, $\alpha$$_{c}$, in the predicted kinetic expression, the reaction becomes to be controlled by diffusion due to the restricted mobility of dimethacrylate macromonomers. A drop in value of effective rate constant causes a drastic decrease of reaction rate at the later stages of polymerization. By determining the effective rate constants, the reaction-controlled and diffusion-controlled regimes were properly defined even in the photopolymerization reaction system.m.m.
