The study was designed to analyse the reorganization of the rabbit TMJ meniscus which was anteriorly displaced by surgery. The author compared the anteriorly displaced groups with control group. After surgical opening of the left rabbit TMJ space, cut the posterior attachment of the meniscus, and pushed it under the undercut area of the condyle head. Experimental groups were sacrificed by 1, 2, 4, 8 weeks after surgery. The samples were analysed with light microscope under T-B stain and electron microscope. The results were as follows: 1) The rabbit TMJ meniscus consisted of thick anterior and posterior band running different way, and comparative thin intermediate band runining antero-posteriorly. 2) Round oval shape chondrocyte-like cells were imbeded between the collagen fiber bundles and composed of proteoglycan granules, that showed metachromasia with toluidine blue, around the cell matrix. 3) Type II collagen fiber bundles in experimental group occured degenerative changes in organic patterns at 8 weeks, but those of type I collagen fiber bundles sustained longer, 4) The typical fibrocartilage of the rabbit TMJ meniscus was changed into fibrotic mode in process of time and showed the degenerative changes, which contained hyperplasia, calcification, resorption and hyalinization in the connective tissue. 5) The hyperplastic change of the synovial membrane in 4 week group and transitional change from fibrocyte to chondrocyte in cell type in 8 week group were observed. 6) The diameters of collagen fibers were diminished with the degenerative changes, the shape of the fibers became wavier and more nonorganic in running pattern and fiber bundle spaces widened.

Low frequency noises (up to about 200 Hz) mainly occur due to particular modes, resulting in booming noises, and in general the solutions may be found based on mode controls where conventional methods such as FEM can be used. However, at higher frequencies between 0.3~ 1 kHz, as the number of modes rapidly increase, radiation characteristics from structures, performances of damping sheets and sound packages may be more crucial rather than particular modes, and consequently the conventional FEM may be less practical in dealing with this kinds of structure-borne problems. In this context, so-called 'mid-frequency simulation model' based on FE-SEA hybrid method is studied and validated. Energy Transmission loss (i.e. air borne noise) is also studied. A dash panel component is chosen for this study, which is an important path that transfers both structure-borne and air borne energies into the cavity. Design modifications including structural modifications, attachment of damping sheets and application of different sound packages are taken into account and the corresponding noise characteristics are experimentally identified. It is found that the dash member behaves as a noise path. The damping sheet or sound packages have similar influences on both sound radiation and transmission loss. The comparison between experiments and simulations shows that this model could be used to predict the tendency of noise improvement.

Low frequency noises(up to about 200 Hz) such as booming are mainly caused by particular modes, and in general the solutions may be found based on mode controls where conventional methods such as FEM can be used. In this context, so-called 'mid-frequency simulation model' based on FE-SEA hybrid method is studied and validated to reduce noise in this frequency region. Energy transmission loss(i.e. air borne noise) is also studied. A dash panel component is chosen for this study, which is an important path that transmits both structure-borne and air borne energies into the cavity. Design modifications including structural modifications, attachment of damping sheets and application of different sound packages are taken into account and the corresponding noise characteristics are experimentally identified. The chemical engrafting of polymers on particle surface, plays an important role on selective partitioning of micro/nano-particles in the separated layers of liquid media, such as aqueous two phase systems (ATPSs). Three polymers, dextran, poly (ethylene glycol) and albumin were chosen and chemically conjugated to the polystyrene (PS) magnetic microparticle surface. The attachment of long-chained polymer chains which may switch the partition behavior, can be simply performed by SN2 substitution of various polymers having primary amine functional groups, with p-toluenesulfonyl (tosyl)-activated polystyrene magnetic micro-particles. The surface modification of microparticle was probed by infrared microscopy. The distinctive peak represents N-H stretching vibration mode for microparticles after the reaction and it is common for all three polymers examined. The locations of main peaks are similar for all micro-particles but different and distinguishable in fingerprint region.

DBM-2198, a six-membered azasugar nucleotide (6-AZN)-containing phosphorothioate (P = S) oligonucleotide (AZPSON), was described in our previous publication [Lee et al. (2005)] with regard to its antiviral activity against a broad spectrum of HIV-1 variants. This report describes the mechanisms underlying the anti-HIV-1 properties of DBM-2198. The LTR-mediated reporter assay indicated that the anti-HIV-1 activity of DBM-2198 is attributed to an extracellular mode of action rather than intracellular sequence-specific antisense activity. Nevertheless, the antiviral properties of DBM-2198 and other AZPSONs were highly restricted to HIV-1. Unlike other P = S oligonucleotides, DBM-2198 caused no host cell activation upon administration to cultures. HIV-1 that was pre-incubated with DBM-2198 did not show any infectivity towards host cells whereas host cells pre-incubated with DBM-2198 remained susceptible to HIV-1 infection, suggesting that DBM-2198 acts on the virus particle rather than cell surface molecules in the inhibition of HIV-1 infection. Competition assays for binding to HIV-1 envelope protein with anti-gp120 and anti-V3 antibodies revealed that DBM-2198 acts on the viral attachment site of HIV-1 gp120, but not on the V3 region. This report provides a better understanding of the antiviral mechanism of DBM-2198 and may contribute to the development of a potential therapeutic drug against a broad spectrum of HIV-1 variants.

iATA (Internet Advanced Technology Attachment) is a block-level protocol developed to transfer ATA commands over TCP/IP network, as an alternative network storage solution to address insufficient storage problem in mobile devices. This paper employs RAID5 distributed storage servers concept into iATA, in which the idea behind is to combine several machines with relatively inexpensive disk drives into a server array that works as a single virtual storage device, thus increasing the reliability and speed of operations. In the case of one machine failed, the server array will not destroy immediately but able to function in a degradation mode. Meanwhile, information can be easily recovered by using boolean exclusive OR (XOR) logical function with the bit information on the remaining machines. We perform I/O measurement and benchmark tool result indicates that additional fault tolerance feature does not delay read/write operations with reasonable file size ranged in 4KB-2MB, yet higher data integrity objective is achieved.
Purpose: This study compared fracture strength and fracture modes between metal wire reinforcement and glass fiber reinforcement in repaired maxillary complete denture. Materials and methods: In this study, fracture was reproduced on center of maxillary complete dentures and the denture was repaired with auto-polymerizing resin. The experimental groups (n = 10) were subjected to the following condition: without reinforcing material (control group), reinforcing with metal wire (W group), reinforcing with glass fiber pre-impregnated with light-curing resin (SES MESH, INNO Dental Co., Yeoncheon, Korea, G group). The fracture strength and fracture modes of a maxillary complete denture were tested using Instron test machine (Instron Co., Canton, MA, USA) at a 5.0 mm/min crosshead speed. The flexure load was applied to center of denture with a 20 mm diameter ball attachment. When fracture occurred, the fracture mode was classified based on fracture lines. The Kruskal-wallis test and the Mann-whitney U test were performed to identify statistical differences at ${\alpha}=.05$. Results: W group showed the highest value of fracture strength, there was no significant difference (P>.05) between control group and G group. Control group and W group showed anteroposterior fracture mainly, group W showed adhesive fracture of denture base and reinforcing material. Conclusion: In limitation of this study, the glass fiber did not improve the fracture strength of repaired maxillary complete denture, and adhesive failure was occurred along the lines of glass fiber.
Various long-term studies have shown that titanium implants as abutments for different types of prostheses have become a predictable adjunct in the treatment of partially or fully edentulous patients. The continuous exposure of dental implants to the oral cavity with all its possible contaminants creates a problem. A lack of attachment, together with or caused by bacterial insult, may lead to peri-implantitis and eventual implant failure. Removal of plaque and calculus deposits from dental titanium implants with procedures and instruments originally made for cleaning natural teeth or roots may cause major alterations of the delicate titanium oxide layer. Therefore, the ultimate goal of a cleaning procedure should be to remove the contaminants and restore the elemental composition of the surface oxide without changing the surface topography and harming the surrounding tissues. Among many chemical and mechanical procedure, air-powder abrasive have been known to be most effective for cleaning and detoxification of implant surface. Most of published studies show that the dental laser may be useful in the treatment of pen-implantitis. $CO_2$ laser and Soft Diode laser were reported to kill bacteria of implant surface. The purpose of this study was to obtain clinical guide by application these laser to implant surface by means of Non-contact Surface profilometer and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS) with respect to surface roughness and atomic composition. Experimental rough pure titanium cylinder models were fabricated. All of them was air-powder abraded for 1 minute and they were named control group. And then, the $CO_2$ laser treatment under dry, hydrogen peroxide and wet condition or the Soft Diode laser treatment under Toluidine blue O solution condition was performed on the each of the control models. The results were as follows: 1. Mean Surface roughness(Ra) of all experimental group was decreased than that of control group. But it wasn't statistically significant. 2. XPS analysis showed that in the all experimental group, titanium level were decreased, when compared with control group. 3. XPS analysis showed that the level of oxygen in the experimental group 1, 3($CO_2$ laser treatment under dry and wet condition) and 4(Soft Diode laser was used under toluidine blue O solution) were decreased, when compared with control group. 4. XPS analysis showed that the atomic composition of experimental group 2($CO_2$ laser treatment under hydrogen peroxide) was to be closest to that of control group than the other experimental group. From the result of this study, this may be concluded. Following air-powder abrasive treatment, the $CO_2$ laser in safe d-pulse mode and the Soft Diode laser used with photosensitizer would not change rough titanium surface roughness. Especially, $CO_2$ laser treatment under hydrogen peroxide gave the best results from elemental points of view, and can be used safely to treat peri-implantitis.
Insects constitute the largest and most diverse group of animals in the world. They also serve as the hosts or nutrient sources for an immense assemblage of pathogens, parasites, and predators. More than 700 fungal species from 100 genera have adopted an entomopathogenic lifestyle. Although entomopathogenic fungi were studied as only biocontrol agents against a variety of pests in various countries, it has been recently focused their additional roles in nature. They are antagonists to/against plant pathogens, endophytes, and possibly even plant growth promoting agents. The potential antimicrobial effect against fungal plant pathogens by an isolate of entomopathogenic fungi including Beauveria bassiana, Lecanicillium spp., and Isaria fumosorosea have been reported since late 1990s, but wasn't reported pathogenicity of the isolate against pests. Later, a Canadian Lecanicillium sp. isolate and L. longisporium isolated from Vertalec$^{(R)}$ showed simultaneous control effect against both aphid and cucumber powder mildew. Therefore, the antimicrobial activities of 342 fungi isolates collected from various regions and conditions in Korea were evaluated against plant pathogenic fungus Botrytis cinerea using dual culture technique on agar plate. As a result, 186 isolates (54.4%) shown the antifungal activity against B. cinerea. The culture filtrates of selected fungi completely suppressed the growth of the microorganisms, indicating that suppression was due to the presence of antimicrobial substances in the culture filtrate. Mode of action of these fungi against insect involves the attachment of conidia to the insect cuticle, followed by germination, cuticle penetration, and internal dissemination throughout the insect. During infection process, secreted enzymes, proteinous toxins, and/or secondary metabolites secreted by entomopathogenic fungi can be used to overcome the host immune system, modify host behavior, and defend host resources. Recently, secondary metabolites isolated from entomopathogenic fungi have been reported as potential bioactive substances. Generally, most of bioactive substances produced by entomopathogenic fungi have reported low molecular weight (lower than 1,000 g/mol) as peptide and, in contrast the high molecular weight fungal bioactive substances are rare. Most substances based on entomopathogenic fungi were shown antimicrobial activity with narrow control ranges. In our study we analyzed the antimicrobial substances having antagonistic effects to B. cinerea. Antimicrobial substances in our fungal culture filtrates showed high thermostability, high stability to proteolytic enzymes, and hydrophilicity and their molecular weights were differed from substance. In conclusion, entomopathogenic fungi showed pathogenicity against insect pests and culture filtrate of the fungi also shown to antimicrobial activity. In the future, we can use the entomopathogenic fungi and its secondary metabolites to control both insect pest control and plant pathogenic fungi simultaneously.
The objective of this paper was to evaluate the shear bond strength of luting glass ionomer cement with defferent calcium based solution treatment on dentin surface. 120 extracted human teeth were classified into 12 group based on presence of smear layer on dentin surface and type of treatment solution. Smear layer remove on dentin surface was done using 6% citric acid for 60 seconds. Five different dentin surface treatment solutions(calcium acetate, calcium carbonate, clacium chlorided, calcium hydroxide, and calcium phosphate) were evaluated in this study. After surface modification, metal ring(inner diameter : 3mm, depth : 1mm) was placed to expose the same dentin surface area and inner space was filled with luting glass ionomer cement according to the recommended procedure for stadard clinical procedure. The shear bond strength of glass ionomer cement was determined after 24 hours. SEM was used for the evaluation of the surface morphologic changes and EDAX analysis was done for determination of the change of the calcium contents of treated dentin. Follwing conclusion can be drawn : 1. In the group of the dentin surface with smear layer, the calcium carbonate solution was the most effective for the increase of the clacium content and the shear bond strength of glass ionomer cement to dentin surfaces. 2. In the group of the calcium carbonate treated dentin with msear layer, the shear bond strength was increased twice compared to the control group and cohesive failure mode was observed. 3. The shear bond strength of cement was increased significantly be the removal of smear layer using 6% citric aicd. However, additional calcium solution treatments were not effective for further bond strength increase. 4. The shear bond strength of cement was significantly improved by both of the removal of smear layer and the calcium solution treatment, and the former was more effective for bond strength improvement. 5. The smear layer removed/calcium solution treated groups showed dentinal tubule obstruction and crystal attachment in SEM evaluation. However, the shear bond strengths of these groups were not increased compared to the smear layer removed/no dentin treatment group.
