Comparative Evaluation of Steam Gasification Reactivity of Indonesian Low Rank Coals (인도네시아 저등급 석탄의 스팀 가스화 반응성 비교 평가)

  • Steam gasification of low rank coals is possible at relatively low temperature and low pressure, and thus shows higher efficiency compared to high rank coals. In this study, the gasification reactivity of four different Indonesian low rank coals (Samhwa, Eco, Roto, Kideco-L) was evaluated in $T=700-800^{\circ}C$. The low rank coals containing $53.8{\pm}3.4$ wt% volatile matter in proximate analysis and $71.6{\pm}1.2$ wt% carbon in ultimate analysis showed comparable gasification reactivity. In addition, $K_2CO_3$ catalyst rapidly accelerated the reaction rate at $700^{\circ}C$, and all of the coals were converted over 90% within 1 hour. The XRD analysis showed no significant difference in carbonization between the coals, and the FT-IR spectrum showed similar functional groups except for differences due to moisture and minerals. TGA results in pyrolysis ($N_2$) and $CO_2$ gasification atmosphere showed very similar behavior up to $800^{\circ}C$ regardless of the coal species, which is consistent with the steam gasification results. This confirms that the indirect evaluation of the reactivity can be made by the above instrumental analyses.

  • The relatively short lifetime is a major obstruction for the commercial applications of OLED. One of the reason for the short lifetime is that the organic materials are interacted with water or oxygen in the atmosphere. Protection of water or oxygen from diffusing into the organic material layers are necessary to increase the lifetime of OLED. Although encapsulation of OLED with glass or metal cans has been established, passivation methods of OLED by organic/inorganic thin films are still being developed. In this paper we have developed in-situ passivation system and thin film passivation method using PECVD by which deposition can be performed at room temperature. We have analyzed the characteristics of the passivated OLED device also. The WVTR (Water Vapor Transmission Rate) for the inorganic thin film mono-layer can be reached down to $1{\times}10^{-2}g/m^2{\cdot}day$ and improved lifetime can be obtained. Thin film passivation methods are expected to be applied to flexible display.

A Study on Propagation Characteristics of Acoustic Signals in Indoor Environments (실내 음향신호 경로감쇠 모형 및 분석)

  • Start This paper analyzes the propagation characteristics of acoustic signals in indoor environments, which is applicable to indoor positioning system. Indoor stereo sound system is generally valid within $25m^2$. So it is not possible to apply prevalent sound propagation characteristic to indoor positioning system because the prevalent acoustic signals propagation characteristic is defined under free space condition. Therefore, in this paper, we present the propagation characteristics of acoustic signals in indoor environments considering the free space propagation characteristic as well as room characteristic such as humidity, temperature, absorption of atmosphere and so on. To verify the designed propagation model of indoor acoustic signals, this paper presents the propagation characteristics of decreasing sinusoidal signals whose frequencies ate from 1kHz to 20kHz in anechoic room. In addition, this paper also presents the propagation characteristics of decreasing sinusoidal signals which have multiple frequencies.

Recovery of Copper from Spent Photovoltaic Ribbon in Solar Module (폐태양전지(廢太陽電池)용 솔라리본으로부터 구리회수(回收)에 관한 연구(硏究))

  • The recovery of copper from spent photovoltaic ribbon was conducted using thermal treatment method at the range of temperature of $300^{\circ}C$ to $600^{\circ}C$ under inert atmosphere. The coating layer consisted of lead of 68.99 wt.% and tin of 31.21 wt.% was melted down at elevated temperatures and was collected on the bottom of crucible. The chemical composition of copper ribbon after thermal treatment was analyzed by ICP-MS (Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry) and the purity of copper was found to be obtained up to about 96 wt.% regardless of temperatures. The cross-sectional area of the specimen was also examined by SEM (scanning electron microscopy) and EDX (energy dispersive X-ray microscopy).

The Electrical Improvement of PZT Thin Films Etched into CF4/(Cl2+Ar) Plasma

  • The PZT thin films are one of well-known materials that has been widely studied for ferroelectric random access memory (FRAM). We etched the PZT thin films by $CF_{4}/(Cl_{2}+Ar)$ plasma and investigated improvement in etching damage by $O_{2}$ annealing. The maximum etch rate of the PZT thin films was 157 nrn/min and that the selectivity of the PZT thin films to Pt was 3.1 when $CF_{4}(30{\%})$ was added to a $Cl_{2}(80{\%})/Ar(20{\%})$ gas mixing ratio. To improve the ferroelectric properties of PZT thin films after etching, the samples were annealed for 10 min at various temperatures in $O_{2}$ atmosphere. After $O_{2}$ annealing, the remanent polarization of the asdeposited films was $34.6{\mu}/cm^{2}$ and the sample annealed at 650, 550, and $450^{\circ}C$ was 32.8, 22.3, and $18.6{\mu}/cm^{2}$, respectively. PZT thin films with $O_{2}$ annealing at $450^{\circ}C$ retained $77{\%}$ of their original polarization at 106 cycles. Also as the annealing temperature increased, the fatigue properties improved. And the leakage current was decreased gradually and almost recovered to the as-deposited value after the annealing at $450^{\circ}C$.

Growth of ZnO Thin films Depending on the Substrates by RF Sputtering and Analysis of Their Microstructures (기판의 결정구조에 따른 RF 스퍼터링 ZnO 박막의 성장과 미세구조 분석)

  • To investigate the ZnO thin films which are interested in the next generation of short wavelength LEDs and Lasers, the ZnO thin films were deposited by RF sputtering system. At sputtering process of ZnO thin films, substrate temperature, work pressure respectively is $100^{\circ}C$ and 15 mTorr, and the purity of target is ZnO 5 N. The ZnO thin films were in-situ annealed at $600^{\circ}C$ in $O_2$ atmosphere. The thickness of ZnO thin films has implemented about $1.6{\mu}m$ at SEM analysis after in-situ annealing process. We have investigated the crystal structure of substrates, and so structural properties of ZnO thin films has estimate by using XRD, FWHM, FE-SEM and AFM. XRD and FE-SEM showed that ZnO thin films grown on substrates had a c-axis preferential orientation in the [0001] crystal direction. XPS spectra showed that ZnO thin film was showed a peak positions corresponding to the O1s and the Zn2p. As form above XPS, we showed that the atom ratio of Zn:O related 1:1.1504 on ZnO thin film, so we could obtained useful information for p-type ZnO thin film.

  • Autoignition characteristic is an important parameter for designing diesel or PCCI engines. In particular, diesel spray flames are lifted from the nozzle and the initial flame is formed by an autoignition phenomenon. The lifted nature of diesel spray flames influences soot formation, since air will be entrained into the spray core by the entrainment of air between the nozzle region and the lifted flame base. The objective of the present study was to identify the effect of heat loss on the ignition delay time by adopting a coflow jet as a model problem. Methane ($CH_4$), ethylene ($C_2H_4$), ethane ($C_2H_6$), propene ($C_3H_6$), propane ($C_3H_8$), and normal butane (n-$C_4H_{10}$) fuels were injected into high temperature air, and the liftoff height was measured experimentally. As the result, a correlation was determined between the liftoff height of the autoignited lifted flame and the ignition delay time considering the heat loss to the atmosphere.

  • In order to develop commercial model of 10kW dish-Stirling solar thermal power system, modification for the exiting facility was taken for a year as a Leading Project in KIER. During the project, solar tracking system, control and monitoring system and high durability reflector were developed and long term operation were performed. The solar tracking system was tested for four months to investigate the degree of precision and adapted to the control system for an actual operation from October in 2009. The sun tracking accuracy of ${\pm}4$ mrad using modified control system was obtained and the system operated successfully during the experimental period. The monitoring system displays engine pressure, electric generation amounts, generator RPM, receiver temperatures, and etc. from Stirling engine and weather data of Direct Normal Irradiation, Horizontal Global Insolation, wind speed & direction, and atmosphere temperature from weather station. According to the operating results in a clear sky day, electric power of 6,890 W was generated at the DNI value of 850 W/$m^2$ and the averaged solar-to-electricity efficiency during a whole day reached to 18.99%. From the overall operating results, linear power generation trend could be observed with increasing DNI value. The solar-to-electricity efficiency achieved to 19% around the DNI value of 700 W/$m^2$ and increased to 20% when the DNI value goes up to 900 W/$m^2$.

Satisfaction with School Food Service of Middle School Students in Daegu (대구지역 중학생들의 학교 급식 만족도 조사)

  • A study was conducted to improve satisfaction to school food service and to furnish source materials for nutrient education by researching degree of satisfaction of middle school students to school food service. Following results are from the study that targeted 215 male students and 173 female students in 5 middle schools in Daegu. Satisfaction rates regarding taste of foods, smell, proper temperature, use of seasonal food, cafeteria atmosphere, numbers of side dishes, and kindness of the cook in a cafeteria were higher than dissatisfaction. And dissatisfaction rates were higher in quantity and quality of foods, sanitation, purity of table wares, opening to nutrient education and related informations for students, opinion reflection of students, food serving time and gratification to food serving than the opposite. But the degree of general satisfaction on school food service were higher than the degree of general dissatisfaction. Sanitation was the first thing to be changed in school food service, then quantity of food and taste for the last. And there were notable differences between male students and female students in sanitation satisfaction. The variables that influence on satisfaction to school food service were sanitary administration, numbers of side dishes, quantity of foods, nutrient, smell and taste when ranked. And the main three things that have similar rate in quantity with satisfaction rate are taste, smell and nutrient of school food service. Through these followed results, degree of general satisfactions to school food service were higher than degree of general dissatisfactions. But sanitation, quantity and quality of foods, taste, and food serving size were not satisfactory for students in rate. Therefore it has to be improved to enhance satisfactions to middle school food service.

Development of Estimating Method for Areal Evapotranspiration using Satellite Data (인공위성 자료를 활용한 광역증발산량의 산정방법 개발)

  • One of the most important hydrologic components is evapotranspiration. It is a process by which water is evaporated from moist land surfaces and transpired into atmosphere by plants. There are many methods of estimating evapotranspiration rate and its potential such as the methods of soil-moisture sampling, lysimeter measurements, water balance, energy balance, groundwater fluctuations and evapotranspiration. But it is very difficult to estimate evapotranspiration in terms of regional discrete characteristics of topography and/or vegetation. The evapotranspiration is strongly affected by ground covering vegetation, and the degree of vegetation growth. In order to grasp vegetation condition over a vast study area, NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Indices) calculated from the data obtained from NOAA/AVHRR were utilized. Through multi-regression analysis, we developed a model equation to estimate the evapotranspiration using NDVIs and temperature data.
