A GIS application for assessment of carrying capacity for national parks was developed and presented in this study. Three criteria--ecological factors, facilities, and institutions--were employed as determining factors for assessing the carrying capacity. Using the GIS-based approach, the site-specific carrying capacity for the Chi-Ri National Park was assessed and a carrying capacity map was prepared. This carrying capacity map can be helpful in making policies for decentralizing visitors and keeping the park environmentally stable.

Contact monitoring is an essential component of the public health response to a Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus outbreak, and is required for an effective quarantine to contain the epidemic. The timeliness of a quarantine is associated with its effectiveness. This paper provides a conceptual framework to describe the process of contact monitoring, and proposes a new measure called the "timely quarantined proportion" as a tool to assess the adequacy of a public health response.

A large literature identifies perceptual differences between citizens that support winning parties versus losing parties. These analyses fail to capture the complexity of mixed member legislative systems where one can be a winner or loser at both the national and district level. This paper proposes a two-level framework for the analysis of mixed system. An analysis of Taiwan’s first election under a mixed system provides evidence that both support for a national winner and district level winner produce boosts in positive perceptions of the electoral system. National success appears to be a larger motivator of perceptions.

AHP is a competent methodology for multicriteria decision-making such as selection of technology in research laboratory, which requires the consideration of both quantitative and qualitative factors. This paper considers prioritization of technology alternatives using value functions for evaluating quantitative factors in AHP. Value functions are useful for the reducing questionars in this paper.

A study on the dynamic response of single-storey steel frames equipped with a rotational friction damper is presented. Extensive testing was carried out for assessing the friction pad material, damper unit performance and foaled model frame response to lateral harmonics excitation. Numerical simulations based on non-linear time history analysis were used to evaluate the seismic behaviour of steel frames with rotational frictional damper. It Is demonstrated that using discrete friction dampers of proper parameters to link steel frame can reduce dynamic response significantly.

This study was conducted to investigate the seismic behavior assessment of circlular-tied bridge piers, particularly with regard to assessing the displacement ductility. The experimental variables of bridge piers test consisted of transverse steel details, amount and spacing different axial load levels etc. The test results indicated that reinforcement concrete bridge piers with confinement steel by the code specification exhibited sufficient ductile behavior and seismic performance. Aldo, it is found that current seismic design code specification of confinement steel requirements may be revised.

After a long, dormant period, recent attention has turned to a variety of measurement issues surrounding the concept of human capital. The traditional approach of rely entirely on measures of school attainment, while convenient, is almost certainly misleading. The availability of cognitive skills measures greatly improves on these measurements, but there remains also concern about other unmeasured factors, including noncognitive skills. This paper considers alternative approaches to assessing the role of human capital on individual earnings and on economic growth.

Optokinetic nystagmus(OKN) testing is an useful tool for assessment of human visual function. Specially, this method has been used for assessing visual function in infants and malingering patients. OKN drum and OKN tape are the common devices currently used for clinical cases. In this paper, we present newly the automated and computerized method for the quantitative and objective assessment of visual acuity in OKN testing.

The purpose of this paper is to provide the comprehensive review of empirical investigations in strategy content in healthcare organizations. Given the absence of relevant reviews in assessing an external validity of strategy content research in the healthcare industry, the paper, by taking convergent view, discern two main streams of research in the school of content: (1) the strategy-structure-performance (SSP) contingent, and (2) competitive strategies which test the propositions that business strategy, industry structure (IO economics). Finally, the paper suggests some future direction for research in this area.

Recently, due to the primary emphasis of health industry and to the restriction of budget, setting the priorities for effective and efficient investment on the medical device and material products has been one of the critical issues in the government sector. This paper shows how an Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) model can be used for assessing selected medical device and material products for grant of the Ministry of Health & Welfare. The final results show that unabsorbable suture is the most attractive medical device product among 88 evaluated products, followed by IV cannula, central venous catheter.
