합체박판 성형기법의 적용을 위한 자동차 도어의 구조 설계 (Structural Design of Door Assembly to Apply Tailor Welded Blanks Technique)

  • TWB(Tailor Welded Blanks) is one of the recent techniques to reduce the weight and cost of the body members. To apply the TWB technique, we must decide the position of the welding line and the thickness of the welded blanks. Although many researchers have tried to check the formability of welded blanks, there are not so many researches from the structural point of view. In this paper, the TWB technique is applied to combine the door inner panel and the hinge face panel into one piece. The finite element structural analysis of the door assembly leads to the final design of the tailor welded door inner panel, which shows the mass reduction of 1.08kg without the sacrifice of the structural stiffness. The structural stiffness analysis includes the frame stiffness analysis, the belt line stiffness analysis, the door sagging analysis and the vibration analysis.

짝이 되는 두 부품의 경제적 선택조립 절차 (An Economic Selective Assembly Procedure for Two Mating Components)

  • An economic procedure of selective assembly is proposed when a product is composed of two mating components. The major qualify characteristic of the product is the clearance between the two components. The components are divided into several classes prior to assembly. The component characteristics are assumed to be independently and normally distributed with equal variance. The procedure is designed so that the proportions of both components in their corresponding classes are the same. A cost model is developed based on a quadratic loss function and methods of obtaining the optimal class limits as well as the optimal number of classes are provided. Formulas for obtaining the proportion of rejection and the unavailability of mating components are also provided. The proposed model is compared with the equal width and the equal area partitioning methods using a numerical example.

Variation simulation and diagnosis considering in-plane/out-of-plane welding distortion

  • Geometric variation including welding distortion accumulates as many parts are joined together, ultimately affecting the final product. This variation is then subjected to correction, which requires considerable effort, time, and cost. This variation can be categorized as in-plane/out-of-plane variation. To date, studies on variation simulation have largely focused on the out-of-plane variation, however the variation generated in the in-plane direction requires more time and efforts to correct afterwards. This research aims to construct a variation simulation model considering both the in-plane and out-of-plane variations. A geometric analysis was performed to derive an equation that reflects the coupling effect of the out-of-plane variation on the in-plane variation. The proposed model is validated with case study analysis and the results shows that good fidelity in predicting and diagnosing the in-plane variation during the block assembly process considering welding distortion.

'Brine Management through brine mining of trace metals' for developing Secondary sources of nuclear fuel

  • The brine and seawater are important and largely untapped sources of critical trace metals and elements. The coupling of selective recovery of trace metals from seawater/brine with desalination plants gives an added advantage of energy credits to desalination plants and as well as reduce the cost of desalinated water. In this paper, status review on recovery of important trace metals and other alkali metals from seawater is presented. The potential of Indian desalination plants for recovery of trace metals, based on recovery ratio of 0.35 is also highlighted. Studies carried out by the process based on adsorption using Radiation Induced Grafted (RIG) polymeric adsorbents and then fractional elutions are presented. The fouling factors due to bio fouling and dirt fouling have been estimated for various locations of interest through field trails. The pay loader in the form of compact Contactor Assembly with minimum pressure drop, for loading specially designed radiation grafted sorbent in leaflet form has been briefed, as required for plant scale facility. The typical conceptual process design details of farm assembly of project CRUDE are described.

  • In the case of steel door frames commonly found in general buildings, there are various assembly methods such as rivets, bolts, and welding, but the welding method is generally used. However, this welding joint method has many problems, such as distortion due to heat and damage due to external shock. In particular, when used as a fire door, problems may occur in the event of a fire due to distortion caused by heat from welding and the weak welded joint area. In the case of rivet or welded joints, when moved after assembly, joint loosening due to external shock may occur. Problems may arise where the bonding strength becomes weak. In addition, with the recent increase in high-rise buildings and larger buildings, when assembly is completed and brought to the site, a place is needed to store it, and in addition, there is a problem in that it has to be transported several times in small quantities to the installation site, which is another problem of time and cost loss. This is coming to the fore. In order to fundamentally solve this problem, we have researched and developed a non-welding door frame that can be assembled on site. We have researched and developed three assembly methods: screw-type, insert-type, and protrusion-type. Non-welded door frames are small in size and easy to package, making them advantageous for domestic and overseas exports.

누적 재가공 비용 모델을 이용한 설계 및 가공 공차의 동시 최적화 (Concurrent Optimization of Design and Machining Tolerances with Accumulated Scrap Cost Model(ASCM))

  • Most of researches of tolerance optimization have used a simple sum of tolerance-cost functions with several constraint equations as an optimization model. However, if there is a machining sequence with more than one processes to complete a part, and machining failure, i.e., out-of-tolerance occurs at one of the intermediate processes, the tolerance-cost of this process should be added by the machining cost of all the previous processes already completed on the part. In this study, an accumulated scrap cost model(ASCM) is proposed considering the scrapped machining cost, and applied to a simple assembly example. The result of tolerance optimization using ASCM is compared with that of using a traditional optimization model to confirm its effectiveness.

  • In this study, new way of evaluating manufacturing cost Is organized and applied. In real manufacturing circumstances, tolerances of parts and assemblies are closely related to the cost. Several researches have been tried to identify the relations and set models. Moreover tolerances have influences on the maintenance of the manufacturing facilities. However Past researches have not considered the processing cost for the failed products. Therefore maintenance costs are represented as stochastic expressions, which include reliability of assembly and facilities. The stochastic nature of the maintenance cost is modeled and solved using Markov chain approach. Results show that this approach gives reliable estimations with remarkable computing time reduction.

조립품을 위한 비선형 공차할당 (Nonlinear Tolerance Allocation for Assembly Components)

  • As one of many design variables, the role of dimension tolerances is to restrict the amount of size variation in a manufactured feature while ensuring functionality. In this study, a nonlinear integer model has been modeled to allocate the optimal tolerance to each individual feature at a minimum manufacturing cost. While a normal distribution determines statistically worst tolerances with its symmetrical property in many previous tolerance allocation studies, a asymmetrical distribution is more realistic because its mean is not always coincident with a process center. A nonlinear integer model is modeled to allocate the optimal tolerance to a feature based on a beta distribution at a minimum total cost. The total cost as a function of tolerances is defined by machining cost and quality loss. After the convexity of manufacturing cost is checked by the Hessian matrix, the model is solved by the Complex Method. Finally, a numerical example is presented demonstrating successful model implementation for a nonlinear design case.

Highly Tunable Block Copolymer Self-assembly for Nanopatterning

  • Nanoscale block copolymer (BCP) patterns have been pursued for applications in sub-30 nm nanolithography. BCP self-assembly processing is scalable and low cost, and is well-suited for integration with existing semiconductor fabrication techniques. However, one of the major technical challenges for BCP self-assembly is limited tunability in pattern geometry, dimension, and functionality. We suggest methods for extending the degree of tunability by choosing highly incompatible polymer blocks and utilizing solvent vapor treatment techniques. Siloxane BCPs have been developed as self-assembling resists due to many advantages such as high etch-selectivity, good etch-resistance, long-range ordering, and reduced line-edge roughness. The large incompatibility leads to extensive degree of pattern tunability since the effective volume fraction can be easily manipulated by solvent-based treatment techniques. Thus, control of the microdomain size, periodicity, and morphology is possible by changing the vapor pressure and the mixing ratio of selective solvents. This allows a range of different pattern geometry such as dots, lines and holes and critical dimension simply by changing the processing conditions of a given block copolymer without changing a polymer chain length. We demonstrate highly extensive tunability (critical dimension ~6~30 nm) of self-assembled patterns prepared by a siloxane BCP with extreme incompatibility.

증강현실을 이용한 차체 조립시스템의 재구성 (Reconfiguration of Automobile Assembly System using Augmented Reality Technology)

  • Nowadays, the global market requires a variety of products and shorter life cycle to fulfill the diverse demands of customers. To survive in the turbulent and competitive markets, automobile assembly companies must design and implement manufacturing systems that respond rapidly to market demands. In this paper, methods for reconfiguring system based on modular concept is proposed using AR(Augmented reality) technologies. First, the relationship matrixes between change drivers and system components are generated to divide existing manufacturing system to each module. And, new change drivers are selected based on required function in new system. Through the modification of relationship matrix, the concept design of new system is proposed and implemented in AR environment. Finally, according to proposed methods and procedure in this paper, the existing cockpit assembly system is reconfigured to spare tire assembly system as a case study. As the use of the modular-based reconfiguration method in AR environment, the time and cost for reconfiguring manufacturing system will be reduced dramatically.
