This study was performed to examine the effects of aluminum addition and recycle of NaOH waste solution on CEC and crystallinity of zeolite synthesized from fly ash. The added aluminum was used as the source of zeolite framework in zeolitization of fly ash. CEC and crystallinity of Na-P1 zeolite synthesized with aluminum addition were increased from 285 to $365cmol_c\;kg^{-1}$ and from 44.3 to 57.1% compared to that of simple hydrothermal treatment, respectively. The recycled NaOH solution did not affect the CEC of reaction products, though the crystallinity was decreased a little. Therefore, the additional supply of aluminum could improve the quality of zeolite synthesized from fly ash and the recycle of NaOH during zeolite synthesis can save the chemical without any adverse effects in the quality of synthesized seolite.
Corrosion of steel reinforcment is the most significant factor of deterioration in reinforced concrete structures. Chloride ion is considered one of the most common culprits in the corrosion of steel in concrete. It breaks down the passive film and allows the steel to corrode actively at a high rate. The main objective of this study is to determine the critical chloride ion concentrations in the pore solutions and chloride binding effect of cement pastes made with and without fly ash. Cement pastes with water-binder ratio of 0.5, allowed to hydrate in sealed containers for 28 days and to express pore solution. The expressed pore fluids were analyzed for chloride and hydroxyl ion concentrations. Evaporable water on paralled specimens was determined a.s the loss of weight per 100g of unhydreded cement when the specimens were heated to constant weight at 105'C. It was found that the replaced cement with fly ash has negligible influnce on the chloride binding and chloride binding capacity and rises the $Cl^-$ /$OH^-$ ratio in pore solution.
The total amount of ash generated from the municipal solid waste incineration(MSWI) in Korea was approximately 420,000 tons in 2005 including 68,000 tons of fly ash. Fly ash from MSWI generally contains high amount of CaO (upto ${\sim}50%$) due to the treatment of flue gas by spraying CaO-base materials. Currently, most of fly ash generated is finally ended up with specially designed landfill sites and only less then 20% of fly ash is recycled. In the present work, preparation of $CaCO_3$ from the MSWI ny ash was studied to promote the fly ash recycling. Fly ash obtained from the dust collector in stoker-type MSWI is used to selectively dissolve CaO by using the sugar solution. Then, $CO_2$ gas was passed through the dissolved solution to pro- duce $CaCO_3$ powder. The optimum conditions for CaO dissolution were solid content 10%, reaction time 15 minutes, sugar concentration $10{\sim}15%\;and\;pH\;10.5{\sim}11.0$. The high grade $CaCO_3$ powder was obtained and the experimental conditions are also discussed.

In this study, the fly ash was employed as a possible alternative to the bentonite for its high sorption capacity against cationic heavy metal. To consider the constituents of barrier possibly used, the specimens were mixed with different material contents (fly ash : weathered soil : bentonite), then sorption test was performed. Also the specimens were molded on the wet side of optimum moisture contents like mixing ratio of sorption test and their hydraulic conductivities were measured in flexible-wall permeameters. And to confirm the effect of dissolved cations, the hydraulic conductivity tests were repeated by converting the permeant liquids from water to $Cd^{2+}$ solution. Finally, the Cd-concentration at the effluent was analyzed for 500hrs to compare the effectiveness of each specimen in contaminant retardation. Test results showed that the more the ratio of fly ash increase, the more Kd value increase, and the hydraulic conductivity of weathered soil/bentonite (95:5) mixture was the lowest $(2.9*10^{-8}cm/sec)$, and specimens made of fly ash and fly ash/weathered soil mixtures showed similar hydraulic conductivity. Although the permeant liquid was changed from water to $Cd^{2+}$ solution, the hydraulic conductivity of all specimens except for weathered soil maintained similarly like before. Consequently, the initial breakthrough point of Cd in weathered soil specimen was observed at about 5hrs after the test started while that of fly ash specimens was not observed during the whole test period of 500hrs. The results implied that fly ash had a sufficient retardation capacity against contaminant transport possibly by its high sorption capacity although it showed little effect on the reduction of hydraulic conductivity. Based on the test results, it could be concluded that the fly ash can be possibly used as a suitable barrier material in containment system to attenuate the contaminant transport for its high retardation capacity and for the low cost.
Physical and chemical properties, the salt accumulation and leaching of salt by water of coal fly ash ball (ash ball) were evaluated in comparison with perlite and granule rockwool (rockwool). Bulk density, particle density, solid phase, and porosity of ash ball were 0.93 g.cm$^{-3}$ , 2.29 g.cm$^{-3}$ , 40.6%, 59.4%, respectively. The bulk density of ash ball was greater, while porosity was smaller, than that of perlite and rockwool. Saturation moisture capacity was 52% in ash ball, 71% in perlite, and 90% in rockwool. Water contents after drainage for 1 hr of ash ball, perlite, and rockwool were 21%, 27%, and 80%, respectively. Water content of small granules (3-5 mm) of ash ball was 5% greater than that of large (7-15 mm) grannules. The ash ball was a weak alkali substrate with pH 7.6, but not electric conductivity (EC), of the nutrient solution supplied to ash ball slightly increased. When the absorption of mineral ions to substrates were analyzed, ash ball and RW absorbed mainly PO ̄$_4$. On tomato culture, salt accumulation in ash ball substrate was similar to that in perlite. Most of the salts in the ash balls were removed by submerging the substrate eight times in distilled water. It is concluded that water holding capacity of ash ball substrate was lo as compared to other substrates, but air permeability, and water diffusion was excellent, making control of medium water content easy.
This paper describes the effects of fly ash replacement on the sulfate resistance of antiwashout underwater concrete which was replaced cement by fly ash from 0% to 50%. and the experimental works were performed on sulfate acceleration test of 5%$Na_2SO_4$ solution to find out the variance of length and weight of specimens. The experimental result shows that the length of specimens of antiwashout underwater concrete age at 180day was highly increased compare with normal concrete by acceleration test. but the mixture which was replaced 50% of fly ash shows reduction of the expansion, weight various, compare with normal concrete specimen. accordingly by using fly ash as admixture in antiwashout underwater concrete in sea environment, it will makes more durable for the attacks of sulfate by sea water.
This paper indicates the investigation about the development of ET (Environmental Technology) industrial geopolymeric materials from mixture silica mine waste, coal fly ash and alkali activator solution (sodium silicate) by the geopolymer technique at ambient temperature. The results showed that higher compressive strength of geopolymeric mortar increased with a reduce of L/S ratio and increased along with an increase of coal fly ash content. The compressive strengths of geopolymer mortar on low silica of C Silica Mine and K Silica Mine are 18.7 MPa, 20.4 MPa, respectively. Compressive strength of geopolymeric mortar depends on L/S ratio and coal fly ash content added.. Additionally, scanning electron microscope (SEM) techniques are used to characterize the microstructure of the geopolymeric mortars. SEM observation shows that it is possible to have amorphous aluminosilicate gel within mortar. XRD patterns indicate the fact that geopolymeric mortar is composed of amorphous aluminosilicate phase, calcite and quartz.
The use of low cost and ecofriendly adsorbent has been investigated as an alternative to the current expensive method of removing dyes from wastewater. Cow dung cakes were collected from the nearby village which was burnt in a muffle furnace at $500^{\circ}C$ to obtain the required ash. This paper deals with the removal of Reactive Blue 221, Acidoll Yellow 2GNL and Olive BGL which are mainly used in textile industry, from aqueous solution by cow dung ash without any pretreatment. The adsorption was achieved under different pH, adsorbate concentration and the applicability of Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms were examined.
This paper surveys the extraction condition of polygenetic natural dye, Sappan Wood and the effect of ash to the dyeability and fastness. The appropriate time for extracting Sappon Wood was 1hour. The pH was increased as the amount of ash increase. The pH was nearly invariable according to the time of ash solution, the extracting times and temperature. Absorbance of dyeing fabrics was about 480nm. From the result of K/S value determination of fabrics, 10g/$\ell$ quantity of ash was surfficient for treatment and the amount of Sappon Wood was in 100% o.w.f.. K/S value of fabrics pre-mordanted or post-mordanted were higher than that of fabrics simultaneous mordanted.K/S value was increased as pH of mordanting bath decrease and pre-mordanting and post-mordanting fabrics increased the amount of absorption (K/S value) compared with non-mordanted fabrics. It was found that pH of mordanting bath affected the amount of absorption and color change of dyed fabrics. Light fastness of fabric dyed was very poor and the fastness of fabric dyed was not influenced by the mordanting conditions and methods.
$TiO_2$-coated fly ash was synthesized by dropping method of coating agent in order to get $TiO_2$ coating layer with high photocatalytic activity on the surface of coal fly ash. The properties of the $TiO_2$ coating layer such as morphology, crystal structure, crystal size and photocatalytic activity were compared with those of the $TiO_2$-coated fly ash prepared by the traditional method of precipitation. $TiCl_4$ aqueous solution was used as a titanium stock solution and $NH_4HCO_3$ was used as a precipitant. The $TiO_2$ coating layer obtained by dropping method of coating agent was more uniform than that coated by precipitation. However, the crystal of $TiO_2$ coated by dropping method of coating agent was easy to grow by heat treatment because of the small primary particle size and bulky morphology, and its photocatalytic activity was consequently lower than that of the $TiO_2$ coated by precipitation. The $TiO_2$ coating layer obtained by both methods had a crystal structure of anatase, and the temperature of phase transformation into rutile was 90$0^{\circ}C$. The minimum crystal size of $TiO_2$ for the highest photocatalytic activity was found to be about 10nm.
