현대미술에 나타난 패브릭에 대한 고찰 - 08 광주 비엔날레 패브릭 작품 중심으로- (A Study on Fabrics Shown in Contemporary Art -Focused on Fabric Works in the Gwangju Biennale 2008-)

  • The history of contemporary art in the 20th century can be said the history of changes. Today the variety of objects destroy the boundaries of each genre. This study aims to understand the relationship between fashion and art that becomes closer by examining contemporary art in the Gwangju Biennale 2008 to enlarge the range of understanding of mutual communication between contemporary art and fabrics which are the object of fashion. The research method was to investigate the characteristics and expression methods of object fabrics shown in contemporary art through the review of papers published at home and abroad, related literatures, and Internet materials. Also, the meaning, technique, and methods of fabrics were analyzed from works introduced in the Gwangju Biennale 2008. In order to achieve this purpose, fabric was examined as the object of work in Gwangju Biennale 2008. As a result, it is found that fabric plays an important role in changing environment newly with more dynamic, abundant, and comfortable and softer feeling than any other artistic materials and enlarging the boundaries of artistic materials by exploring formative possibility. Furthermore, its multi-dimensional expression characteristic presents unbounded possibility. Fabric which has long formed close relationship with human life has taken its place as one genre now. It departs from the past principles of fabric handicraft and the restriction of a classical norm and becomes characteristic of very wide-ranging selection of materials and free expression. Its soft and warm texture provides emotional stability for a human. Although the peculiarity of fabric as an active concept to human environment and new materials and technique based on the aesthetic consciousness of a human rely on the high development of industry, it is significant that artists' liberation from their concept and material sense is accompanied by the expression of freedom.

A Study on the Regional Aesthetics of Asian High-rise Buildings

  • For more than 100 years, American skyscrapers got along with the change of Modern architecture. However, high-rise building can not be regarded anymore as a monopoly of America. The purpose of this study is to clarify the aesthetic characteristics of Asian high-rise buildings. Basic concepts on the aesthetic and artistic expression of high-rise building have been discussed, emphasizing the importance of artistic characteristic. A brief introduction on the rise of Asian high-rise buildings also summarized in terms of changing trends for decades from 1970s. Among the 75 buildings in Asian countries out of 100 tallest buildings in the world, 10 buildings are selected to clarify the artistic characteristics which can be presented as an Asian trend in 21st century. The results can be summarized as follows; It was from 1990s that the Asian high-rise buildings began to express a specific regional aesthetics as a trend of post-modernism. Conventional ideas, traditional objects, and regional shapes and patterns are good instruments to successfully represent their national prides. Religions in Chinese and Islamic culture are popular motifs in Asian countries as well as feng shui and conventional idea of five primary elements. Traditional objects like pagoda and minaret are good precedents that can provide friendly recognized vertical objects. Many other interesting cases can be found referring to the traditional shapes and patterns like Chinese character, geometric pattern, Islamic sign, etc.

게임 그래픽의 예술적 표현을 위한 NPR기법 연구 (A Study of NPR Techniques for Artistic Expressions In Game Graphics)

  • 게임 그래픽은 컴퓨터 그래픽의 한 분야로서 비약적인 기술발전으로 끊임없는 시도와 연구를 통해 표현 기법의 다양성을 추구하고 있다. 게임 그래픽의 렌더링 방식도 크게 두 가지 분야로 구분된다. 사진과 같은 정확한 영상을 구현하는 사실적 렌더링(Photorealistic rendering)기법과, 사람의 감성과 예술성이 표현되는 비사실적 렌더링(꾜PR: Non-Photorealistic rendering)기법이다. 본 논문에서는 게임 그래픽에서 사용되는 비사실적 렌더링(NPR)기법에 대하여 각각의 제작사례에 대한 분석과 특징을 조사하였다. 그리고 게임 그래픽을 예술적인 측면으로 접근하여 다양한 효과들을 제안하였다. 이러한 연구를 통해 최근의 비사실적 렌더링(NPR)기법의 적용성과 장단점을 파악하여 좀 더 감성적이고 친근하며 예술적인 게임을 제작 할 수 있도록 하는데 목적이 있다.

A Research of Ink and Wash Elements on the 3D Animation Film <Deep Sea>

  • <Deep Sea> is an 3D animated film that stands out for its exceptional special effects and distinctive artistic style. The film employs a multitude of dazzling and vibrant ink particles, creating a strong sense of three-dimensionality and weightlessness, while simultaneously portraying a dreamlike and elegant representation of a deep sea ink painting. Furthermore, through the utilization of fragmented stream of consciousness narrative technique, the film establishes a unique artistic effect infused with a Chinese atmosphere. This paper by analyzing the unique particle ink art style and color and stream of consciousness narrative methods in film, this paper discusses the innovative art style generated by traditional ink art style combined with three-dimensional technology, and the integration of traditional ink art ideas and artistic conception in animated films. The objective is to cultivate a new ink art style and prove the importance of traditional cultural expression in animated films, while providing new perspectives for the future application of traditional art in animation.

Research on The Application and Expression of Mixed media in Oil Painting

  • With the diversified development of modern art, the application of mixed media in painting has become increasingly prominent, which not only provides artistic creators with new creative ideas, but also magnifies the creators' emotions and re endows the media with meaning and value. This paper systematically introduces the definition, features and connotation of mixed media painting, and expounds three aspects of the aesthetic function of multimedia in oil painting creation, the embodiment of painting individuality, and the combination and application of materials and technique to demonstrate that mixed media presents different understanding and expression in Chinese oil painting, no longer constrained by traditional oil painting materials, which promotes more development possibilities of the art expression form of Chinese oil painting, enhances its international influence, and bring new vitality to the creation and development of Chinese oil painting.

앙리 마티스(Henri Matisse) 작품을 응용한 아트메이크업 일러스트레이션에 관한 연구 (A Study on Art Make-up Illustration Applying Henri Matisse's Works)

  • The purposes of this study are to identify the formative characteristics and the form of color expression by studying Henri Matisse's works. Also, this study is meaningful in that it took art make-up illustration as an original area by incorporating the artistic value of Henri Matisse's works on art make-up illustration. The research was carried out by analyzing the paintings of Matisse focusing on previous theses and related books. Four pieces were produced from the motive earned from the figurative features and color. The results of this study can be summarized as follows : 1) Since Henri Matisse's works used strong original colors such as R/V, G/V, B/V, and Y/V, it was possible to create powerful art make-up illustration through the contrast of complementary colors. 2) Creative and artistic illustration could be produced by developing and reorganizing designs with the utilization of his works.

그림책과 명화를 활용한 미술프로그램이 유아의 미술 감상능력과 미술 표현능력에 미치는 영향 (Picture Book and Famous Paintings Art Programs : Effect on Young Children's Artistic Appreciation and Artistic Expression)

  • This study of the effectiveness of various art programs took place in Gwangju with asample of 60 four- to five-year-old children from three kindergartens. The children were assigned to one of three experimental groups : 20 children in the picture book group(experimental group 1), 20 children in the famous paintings group(experimental group 2), and 20 children in the traditional group(control group). Data were analyzed by ANCOVA using the scores of the pre-test as covariance. Results showed that the picture book and the famous painting art programs affected young children's art ability more positively than the traditional art program. The picture book art program showed particularly high educational effectiveness.

  • Minimalism combines the adjective 'minimal' and the suffix 'ism', and was first coined in the 1960s. Minimalism draws on the belief that when the use of artistic skills and adaptation is minimized and only the essentials or core is expressed, the discrepancy or distance between reality and art can be kept to a minimum; and thus, true reality can be achieved. To realize minimalism, artists creating paintings, sculptures and other forms of visual art eliminate unnecessary elements and strip objects to its essentials. And hence, most minimalist artwork used minimum amount of color and focused on expressing the geometric essence of objects. Such simplistic styles of minimalism can be seen today in various designs. Apple's iPod design and other product designs as well as graphic designs are just few of the examples. Drawing on the spirit of minimalism, Icongraphics pursues beauty and pleasure in the minimal use of color and form. And what lies beneath Icongraphics' artistic style is its pursuit of simplistic essentials, sending a strong message to the digitalized and complex lives of modern people.

이상' 시의 타이포그라피적 해석 (a typographic study on Yi Sang's poetry)

  • 전위시인 이상은 회화적, 건축 적 영감으로 시를 썼으며, 그의 시 세계에 타이포그리피적 표현을 구사하여 그만의 예술적 창의력을 분출하였다. 그는 문학적 언어에만 묶여 있던 언어를 해방시켜 시각적 영상언어로 승화시켰고, 그가 창조해낸 기호로 유희하며, 현실과 전총에 대해 도전했고, 질서에 대한 모험적인 싸움을 즐겼다. 각고의 과정을 통해 토해 낸 그의 타이포그라피적 결과들은 결국 우리 현대 타이포그라피 역사를 1930년대로 한층 길게 늘여 놓았다. 그의 시에 나타나는 타이포그라피는 활자적 표현 기술로서 본다면 미숙함도 있겠으나 일관된 실험정신으로 고루한 관습을 깬 것은 한글 타이포그라피에 뚜렷한 현대성 제시했다는 점에 의미를 두어, 이제 늦었더라도 그를 한국 현대 타이포그라피의 보배로운 존재로서 새로이 평가해야 할 것이다.

A Design Creation Method for Ship Configuration based on the Aesthetic Cognitive Theory

  • The shape of an industrial product has to be determined within the constrained conditions of keeping firmly many kinds of functional and performance requirements. On the other hand, the configuration of artistic work would be created desirably using the sense of aesthetics, even if conflicting slightly with these requirements. The development of a methodology for an aesthetic design founded on human sensitivity is becoming highly desirable in recent years. In this paper, a method of measuring beauty quantitatively for an artistic evaluation if proposed using the aesthetic cognitive theory and the optimum configuration could be found by a search using the genetic algorithm. Furthermore, an expression of optimum ship appearance can be gained as graphics.
