  • Management science/operations research (MS/OR) educational software packages are widely used at the present time. Those software packages are expected to help students understand MS/OR techniques better. However, MS/OR educational software packages are often used as computational tools to obtain model solutions efficiently rather than as the tutoring software packages. Several possible reasons for the lack of effective tutoring capacity in MS/OR educational software packages are identified in this paper. The authors believe that the deficiency of tutoring capacity in those software is mainly due to technological limitations (computers and artificial intelligence) and the MS/OR professionals' perception about those software packages. Given technological limitations, feasible design and development approaches are provided to improve the tutoring effectiveness of MS/OR educational software packages.

  • Enhanced methodologies for process diagnosis and abnormal situation management have been developed for the last two decades. However, there is no single method that always shows better performance over all kinds of diagnostic problems. In this paper, a framework of message-passing, cooperative, intelligent diagnostic agents is presented for improved on-line fault diagnosis through cooperative problem solving of different expertise. A group of diagnostic agents in charge of different process functional perform local diagnoses in parallel; exchange related information with other diagnostic agents; and cooperatively solve the global diagnostic problem of the whole process plant or business units just like human experts would do. For their better understanding, sharing and exchanging of process knowledge and information, we also suggest a way of remodeling processes and protocols, taking into account semantic abstracts of process information and data. The benefits of the suggested multi-agents-based approach are demonstrated by the implementations for solving the diagnostic problems of various chemical processes.

  • This paper proposes a reliable data sharing scheme on the internet of vehicles (IoV) by utilizing blockchain technology for constructing a decentralized system approach. In our model, to maintain the credibility of the information messages sent by the vehicles to the system, we propose a reputation rating mechanism, in which neighboring vehicles validate every received information message. Furthermore, we incorporate an incentive mechanism based on smart contracts, so that vehicles will get certain rewards from the system when they share correct traffic information messages. We simulated the IoV network using a discrete event simulator to analyze network performance, whereas the incentive model is designed by leveraging the smart contract available in the Ethereum platform.

  • In this study, two powerful techniques, namely particle swarm optimization (PSO) and imperialist competitive algorithm (ICA) were selected and combined with a pre-developed ANN model aiming at improving its performance prediction of the compressive strength of concrete modified with fly ash. To achieve this study's aims, a comprehensive database with 379 data samples was collected from the available literature. The output of the database is the compressive strength (CS) of concrete samples, which are influenced by 9 parameters as model inputs, namely those related to mix composition. The modeling steps related to ICA-ANN (or neuro-imperialism) and PSO-ANN (or neuro-swarm) were conducted through the use of several parametric studies to design the most influential parameters on these hybrid models. A comparison of the CS values predicted by hybrid intelligence techniques with the experimental CS values confirmed that the neuro-swarm model could provide a higher degree of accuracy than another proposed hybrid model (i.e., neuro-imperialism). The train and test correlation coefficient values of (0.9042 and 0.9137) and (0.8383 and 0.8777) for neuro-swarm and neuro-imperialism models, respectively revealed that although both techniques are capable enough in prediction tasks, the developed neuro-swarm model can be considered as a better alternative technique in mapping the concrete strength behavior.

  • This paper proposes a composite design of fuzzy adaptive control scheme based on TMD RC structural system and the gain of two-dimensional fuzzy control is controlled by parameters. Monitoring and learning in LMI then produces performance indicators with a weighting matrix as a function of cost. It allows to control the trade-off between the two efficiencies by adjusting the appropriate weighting matrix. The two-dimensional Boost control model is equivalent to the LMI-constrained multi-objective optimization problem under dual performance criteria. By using the proposed intelligent control model, the fuzzy nonlinear criterion is satisfied. Therefore, the data connection can be further extended. Evaluation of controller performance the proposed controller is compared with other control techniques. This ensures good performance of the control routines used for position and trajectory control in the presence of model uncertainties and external influences. Quantitative verification of the effectiveness of monitoring and control. The purpose of this article is to ensure access to adequate, safe and affordable housing and basic services. Therefore, it is assumed that this goal will be achieved in the near future through the continuous development of artificial intelligence and control theory.

  • With the advent of artificial intelligence and Internet of Things, demands for high-performance sensors with high sensitivity and ultrafast response for big data acquisition and processing have increased. VO2, a strongly correlated material, has been shown to exhibit a reversible and abrupt resistance change in the sub-nanosecond scale through a phase transition from an insulating to a metallic state at 68℃. The metal-insulator transition (MIT) of VO2 provides the potential for the development of highly sensitive and ultrafast high-performance sensors. This is because it can be triggered by various external stimuli, such as heat, light, gas adsorption/desorption, and strain. Therefore, attempts have been made to develop high-performance sensors by controlling the MIT of VO2 in response to external stimuli. This study reviewed recent progress in various VO2-based sensors that utilize MIT, including photodetectors, gas sensors, and strain sensors. This review is expected to serve as an overview of the approaches for controlling the MIT behavior of VO2 and provide insights into the design of high-performance sensors that exploit MIT.
