The main concern of the study is the playwrights' perspectives toward the relationship between society and individuals rather than specific cultural or social circumstances. This study is justified in that the similarities of both playwrights not only provide an opportunity to bridge two different cultures, but they also help readers understand another culture and deepen the understanding of their own culture in the map of international literature. In their plays, both Miller and Cha express an individual's or a family's frustration, conflict, pleasure, and hope as reflected in the social circumstances. The characters take ideas and values from their social world and thrive or fail. Specifically, I have focused on three elements--obsession, generational value systems, and alienation. With three common features, I examine how closely Miller and Cha deal with ordinary people's tragedies.

Narrators used to take an important role in the theatre of ancient Greece. They gave the audience an important information, explained the situations and conflicts between characters by talking to the audience directly. But in the realism play in the 20th century, which is represented as the 'fourth wall,' anything that can interrupt commitments of the audience such as a narrator, was excluded. However the two representative playwright in the 20th century, Thorton Wilder and Arthur Miller took narrators in their plays, Our Town and A View form the Bridge. This study shows why they adopted narrators in their play, which was unusual at that time and how this form of narrator affects to the meaning of the plays.

Arthur Miller's play has been reproduced for a long time, and has been made into a film several times. Director Asghar Farhadi made a film set in Iran in the 21st century, showing the film (2017), which excludes "Death" from the original title. is not just a movie of . In , the play is summoned in the form of performing a play. There are many movies in this form, but is an exquisite fabrication so that the reality outside the play and the content in the play harmonize with each other. The play depicts the tragedy of the head of the family who falls at the end of the American dream. The movie transforms this tragedy into a conflict between a young couple living in Iran in the 21st century. In addition, is completed as an independent work that not only rearranged the space and characters of the original work, but also reinterpreted the meaning of death, creating the effect of media conversion such as theater and film.
