  • Profound changes have occurred in the archival landscape since the advent of community archives and the global spread of archival art. This trend can be seen in Korea where a noticeable growth in archival arts and local community archives can be observed. This study explores how archival arts in Korea function when they are specifically intended to play a role in local community archiving. For this purpose, we analyzed the 'Gyeonggi archive_Now (2018)' and 'Seongbuk Documenta (2016-2018)' exhibitions, which were both exemplary cases of archival arts exhibited in connection with local community archives. Based on the analysis of the Gyeonggi Archive, which was aimed at strengthening the local identity of Gyeonggi Province, as well as the analysis of Seongbuk Documenta, which focused on the loss of place that resulted from redevelopment projects in the area of Seongbuk-gu, this study identifies the multiple roles of artists in archiving work. This study also reveals the variety of archiving works that exist and illuminates the value that such initiatives have in constructing local identity and reviving a sense of place. In particular, this research shows that archival art has the potential to empower local community archives while also providing opportunities to boost artistic creation. Our research concludes by highlighting the necessity of promoting the right environment and conditions that are required for archival arts if they are to play a role not only in keeping records and memories but also in producing further knowledge and discourse in a local community.

  • The aim of this study is to reveal a necessity of and a strategy for the integrated use and the single search across the visual arts resources. For this purpose, at first, analysis was made on the current situation of Korean visual art resource management and retrieval systems. Secondly, the single search methods and its related technological foundation in foreign art resource institutions were categorized and analysed. As a result, this study suggested foundation for creating a sustainable environment for collaboration and single search that enhance access to and use of art resources.

  • Percival Lowell took photographs of 80s during his stay in Korea in the winter of 1883 and 1884. The photographs are the first in the history of Korea and contain various and precious information about Korea of the day. As such, they could be used for purposes of studying late 19th century Chosōn society. The 61 photographs that are archived in Boston Museum of Fine Art were catalogued by National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage and have been posted online with incorrect explanations by Boston Museum of Fine Art. The explanations have been composed and revised at least four times on the basis of Lowell's writings and archivists' understandings of Korea. However these explanations contain many errors regarding the content of the photographs, yet have been cited by researchers and books concerning the history of Korea. I examined the explanations, analyzed Lowell's writings and diplomatic documents, and confirmed the locations where the photographs were taken. Accordingly, I suggest improved explanations of the photographs to prevent misuse of the Boston Museum of Fine Art's online archive. Lowell's photographs of Chosōn have very high historical value and could be used in various cultural fields because of their various contents and high definition. However, they belong to America and are not cared for sufficiently. Therefore, I suggest that high definition digital scans and prints of the photographs be generated for the sake of overseas Korean cultural heritage collection.

  • Art archives are archives that are produced and collected in activities carried out by artists, critics, and related organizations, and a large portion consists of individual records. Because of these characteristics, art archives have a wide range of media and formats, each with their own characteristics and creators, which can lead to copyright issues in individual cases. This study conducted interviews with six art archive professionals from four institutions, secured and analyzed the copyright status and issues that occurred in the art archives field by business area, and suggested applicable measures for each copyright case.

  • Clustering plays an indispensable role for data analysis. Many clustering algorithms have been developed. However, most of them suffer poor performance of learning. To archive good clustering performance, we develop a hybrid neural network model. It is the combination of Multi-Layer Perceptron (MLP) and Adaptive Resonance Theory 2 (ART2). It inherits two distinct advantages of stability and plasticity from ART2. Meanwhile, by combining the merits of MLP, it improves the performance for clustering. Experiment results show that our model can be used for clustering with promising performance.

  • Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a viral infection produced by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) virus epidemic, which was declared a global pandemic in March 2020. The World Health Organization has recorded around 43.3 billion cases and 59.4 million casualties to date, posing a severe threat to global health. Severe COVID-19 indicates viral pneumonia caused by the SARS-CoV-2 infections, which can induce fatal consequences, including acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). The purpose of this research is to better understand the COVID-19 and ARDS pathways, as well as to find targeted single nucleotide polymorphism. To accomplish this, we retrieved over 100 patients' samples from the Sequence Read Archive, National Center for Biotechnology Information. These sequences were processed through the Galaxy server next generation sequencing pipeline for variant analysis and then visualized in the Integrative Genomics Viewer, and performed statistical analysis using t-tests and Bonferroni correction, where six major genes were identified as DNAH7, CLUAP1, PPA2, PAPSS1, TLR4, and IFITM3. Furthermore, a complete understanding of the genomes of COVID-19-related ARDS will aid in the early identification and treatment of target proteins. Finally, the discovery of novel therapeutics based on discovered proteins can assist to slow the progression of ARDS and lower fatality rates.

The collection of infinite information of big data in perspective transient that exist at the same time compatibility of big data, it is trying to dismantle the cultural memory of us. It was asserted that must meet the criteria which can correspond to via the new digital era, will be applied to preserve the traditional media. The current image archive is necessary to accommodate proper two different directions.

  • With the development of media and computer, Motion Capture system, recently used in the entertainment and computer graphics, is emerging as a new recording method. Motion Capture is a system that records time-varying position of sensors which are attached to a objects and translates it to 3-D coordinate on computer. The motion of object displays the time-varying positions of each sensors that are graphed, or the line connected man-shaped model's movements on the computer monitor. And by adding computer graphic character to it, the various angled images, which are difficult to be perceived on the stage, can be easily recorded. Recently in Japan, Motion Capture system is being actively studied in order to use it in recording and preserving the intangible cultural assets of dance and art. Especially, Warabiza in Tazawako art village at Akita plays the leading role in this area through the project to symbolize and establish the archive of cultural dance, further, Ritsumeikan Univ. is develops the system for coupling the motion capture system to Labanotation. This article introduces the motion capture and it's related studies in Japan, which are being actively studied as a new recording method of intangible cultural assets.
