  • To make a better decision about when to shutdown a nuclear power plant, we build a decision model using influence diagrams. We proceed the analysis adopting a bayesian approach. Firstly, an accident arrival rate is assumed to be known and this assumption is relaxed later. We perform our analysis on the cases of exponential time to accidents, and gamma distribution for the arrival rate. An optimal shutdown time is obtained considering the trade-off between the costs incurred by an accident due to late shutdown and the possible loss of revenues due to the early shutdown. We also derive the upper bound of the failure rate where we may operate the plant.

  • NB-IoT(Narrow Band Internet of Things) is an emerging LPWAN(Low Power Wide Area Network) radio technology. NB-IoT has many advantages like low power, low cost, and high coverage. However low bandwidth and low sampling rates also lead to poor positioning accuracy. This paper proposed a solution to optimize positioning accuracy under the OTDOA(Observed Time Difference of Arrival) approach by utilizing MLR(Multiple Linear Regression) models. Through the MLR model to predict the influence degree of weather(temperature, humidity, light intensity and air pressure) on the arrival time of signal transmission to improve the measurement accuracy. The improvement of measurement accuracy can greatly improve IoT applications based on NB-IoT.

  • For the location estimation in the conventional LPMS(Loose Parts Monitoring System), it is popular to employ a group delay among the acoustic sensors installed within a 3 ft range from the impact source. However, there exists inherent error in determining the arrival time differences of the generated wave group among the neighboring sensors. To overcome this problem in this study, the two dimensional approach has been proposed and applied to effectively estimate the arrival time differences by using a continuous wavelet transform which is one of the linear time-frequency analysis methods. The experiment has been performed to both the plate model and the real steam generator in a nuclear power plant. It is expected that the reliability of the location estimation could be enhanced when the proposed time-frequency method is introduced into the LPMS system.

  • A new analytic framework based on a linear algebra approach is proposed for examining the performance of a direct sequence spread spectrum (DS/SS) slotted ALOHA wireless communication network systems with delay capture. The discrete-time Markov chain model has been introduced to account for the effect of randomized time of arrival (TOA) at the central receiver and determine the evolution of the finite population network performance in a single-hop environment. The proposed linear algebra approach applied to the given Markov problem requires only computing the eigenvector ${\prod}$ of the state transition matrix and then normalizing it to have the sum of its entries equal to 1. MATLAB computation results show that systems employing discrete TOA randomization and delay capture significantly improves throughput-delay performance and the employed analysis approach is quite easily and staightforwardly applicable to the current analysis problem.

  • Due to the degradation of beamforming properties at angles close to $0^{\circ}$ to $180^{\circ}$, linear array does not have a complete $180^{\circ}$ inspection range but a smaller one. This paper develops a improved sensor array with two additional sensors above and below the linear sensor array, and presents time difference and two dimensional multiple signal classification (2D-MUSIC) based impact localization for omni-directional localization on composite structures. Firstly, the arrival times of impact signal observed by two additional sensors are determined using the wavelet transform and compared, and the direction range of impact source can be decided in general, $0^{\circ}$ to $180^{\circ}$ or $180^{\circ}$ to $360^{\circ}$. And then, 2D-MUSIC based spatial spectrum formula using uniform linear array is applied for locate accurate position of impact source. When the arrival time of impact signal observed by two additional sensors is equal, the direction of impact source can be located at $0^{\circ}$ or $180^{\circ}$ by comparing the first and last sensor of linear array. And then the distance is estimated by time difference algorithm. To verify the proposed approach, it is applied to a quasi-isotropic epoxy laminate plate and a stiffened composite panel. The results are in good agreement with the actual impact occurring position.

  • This paper proposes an analysis method to check the schedulability of a set of sporadic tasks under earliest deadline first (EDF) scheduler. The sporadic task model consists of subtasks with precedence constraints, arbitrary arrival times and deadlines. In order to determine the schedulability, we present an approach to find exact worst case response time (WCRT) of subtatsks. With the technique presented in this paper, we exploit the precedence relations between subtasks in an accurate way while taking advantage of the deadline of different subtasks. Another nice feature of our approach is that it avoids calculation time overhead by exploiting the concept of deadline busy period. Experimental results show that this consideration leads to a significant improvement compared with existing work.

  • A dynamic traffic assignment (DTA) has recently been implemented in many practical projects. The core of dynamic model is the inclusion of time scale. If excluding the time dimension from a DTA model, the framework of a DTA model is similar to that of static model. Similar to static model, with given exogenous travel demand, a DTA model loads vehicles on the network and finds an optimal solution satisfying a pre-defined route choice rule. In most DTA models, the departure pattern of given travel demand is predefined and assumed as a fixed pattern, although the departure pattern of driver is changeable depending on a network traffic condition. Especially, for morning peak commute where most drivers have their preferred arrival time, the departure time, therefore, should be modeled as an endogenous variable. In this paper, the authors point out some shortcomings of current DTA model and propose an alternative approach which could overcome the shortcomings of current DTA model. The authors substitute a traditional definition for time-dependent OD table by a new definition in which the time-dependent OD table is defined as arrival time-based one. In addition, the authors develop a new DTA model which is capable of finding an equilibrium departure pattern without the use of schedule delay functions. Three types of objective function for a new DTA framework are proposed, and the solution algorithms for the three objective functions are also explained.

  • The aim of this study is to investigate arrival direction effects of travelling waves on non-linear seismic response of arch dams. It is evident that the seismic waves may reach on the dam site from any direction. Therefore, this study considers the seismic waves arrive to the dam site with different angles, ${\theta}=0^{\circ}$, $15^{\circ}$, $30^{\circ}$, $45^{\circ}$, $60^{\circ}$, $75^{\circ}$, and $90^{\circ}$ for non-linear analysis of arch dam-water-foundation interaction system. The N-S, E-W and vertical component of the Erzincan earthquake, on March 13, 1992, is used as the ground motion. Dam-water-foundation interaction is defined by Lagrangian approach in which a step-by-step integration technique is employed. The stress-strain behavior of the dam concrete is idealized using three-dimensional Drucker-Prager model based on associated flow rule assumption. The program NONSAP is employed in response calculations. The time-history of crest displacements and stresses of the dam are presented. The results obtained from non-linear analyses are compared with that of linear analyses.

  • In bus delay-tolerant networks, the route of bus is determinate but its arrival time is indeterminate. However, most conventional approaches predict future contact without considering its uncertainty, which makes a limitation on routing performance. A novel approach is proposed by employing interval algebra to characterize the contact's uncertainty and time-varying nature. The contact is predicted by using the Bayesian estimation to achieve a better routing performance. Simulation results show that this approach achieves a good balance between delivery latency and delivery ratio.

  • In this paper, we propose the beamforming algorithm for the performance improvement of MIMO MC-CDMA system. The proposed multibeamforming of MIMO MC-CDMA structure having the same number of beamformer as the number of transmit antenna is derived by calculating the error signals between the coded pilot symbols and the corresponding received signals from the multiple transmitters of the desired user in the frequency domain, transforming the frequency-domain error signals into time-domain error signals, and updating the weights of the multibeamformer in the time-domain in the direction minimizing the mean squared error (MSE). The proposed approach can track each direction of arrival (DOA) of the signals from multi-antennas of a desired user. The performance improvement is investigated through computer simulation by applying the proposed approach to MIMO MC-CDMA system in a multipath fading channel with multiusers.
