The pyrolysis characteristics of celluloses and plastics, which are the principal materials contributing to the municipal solid wastes(MSWs), was investigated with a thermal gravimetric analysis reaction system. The experiments were carried out in a nitrogen atmosphere in the temperature range of 400~900K at various experimental conditions. Also, a modified pyrolysis model for compressed MSWs has been proposed. Varing the heating rate to 20, 30, 40K/min, reaction orders of MSWs' main component were around 1.1~1.9, activation energies were 117~166kJ/mol for celluloses and 187~239kJ/mol for plastics. Char yield was proportional to the heating rate, particle size, and compressed ratio. The model proposed in this study, which is applying Arrhenius equation and thermodynamics, is closer to the experimental results than the conventional model.

Typical aging for the rubber using the current military adhesive combat boots was spread with a regular aging caused by heat stress. In this study, the aging test of the rubber for combat boots was carried out and the reaction rate constant, k was calculated at aging temperature $60^{\circ}C$, $80^{\circ}C$ and $100^{\circ}C$, using the Arrhenius equation. The lifetime limit was assumed that the tensile strength of the product is reduced to 30%, the elongation is reduced to 50% and abrasion resistance ratio is 380%. ln($P/P_0$) and the lifetime was predicted with the consideration of the activation energy constant. According to the above, the lifetime of the rubber for combat boots with influenced by aging temperature was predicted. As the result, the estimate lifetime at $20^{\circ}C$ was confirmed more than 10 years.
In this work, the cure kinetics and rheological and mechanical properties of diglycidylether of bispheonol A (DGEBA, EP)/polyurethane (PU) blends were investigated. The 1 wt% N-benzylpyrazinium hexafluoroantiminate (BPH) was used as a latent thermal catalyst. Latent properties were performed by measurement of the conversion as a function of reaction temperature using DSC. And the rheological properties of the blend systems were investigated under isothermal conditions using a rheometer. Crosslinking activating energies (Ec) were also determined from the Arrhenius equation based on gel time and curing temperature. The impact strengths were measured as mechanical properties of the casting specimens. The BPH in the blend systems could be an excellent latent thermal catalyst without any co-initiator. The rheological results showed that Ec was highest when PU content was 30 wt% which was in good agreement with the impact strengths. This was probably due to the intermolecular hydrogen bonding between the hydroxyl group in PU and EP, resulting in increasing the crosslinking density.
This study was conducted to investigate the effects of temperature and packaging on the quality characteristics of hot-water extract from Acanthopanax senticosus. The herb samples, ground and sifted($8{\sim}20$ mesh), were extracted by a boiling($100^{\circ}C$) water under the atmospheric pressure for 2 hrs. The extract was packed with out nylon PE(0.08 mm) pouch and kept under the condition(40 and $60^{\circ}C$) for 10 days. The reduction of turbidity, pH, polyphenol amount and DPPH radical scavenging activity of extract were retarded by packaging under the low temperature. Titratable acidity was increased with packaging at high temperature. Soluble solid content was not affected by packaging and temperature condition. The changes of quality characteristics followed the first-order reaction rate. Arrhenius equation was applied to determine the effects of temperature on the reaction rate constant, showing high $R^2$. These results suggested that packaging under lower temperature can be utilized for maintaining the quality of A senticosus extract.
Kinetics of ascorbic acid and browning that may use on the optimization of food dehydration were evaluated. Banana was chosen for this as the representative test material. We have described the destruction of ascorbic acid and browning as first and zero order reactions. The temperature dependence between two reactions were conducted with Arrhenius equation. Finally we have operated SPSS computer programs reapeatedly that we found very dose value of the parameter between result of ascorbic acid and browning. The attained Kinetic models were well prepared for the value of result experiments and the models may use on optimization for dehydration progress. Destruction rate of ascorbic acid and browning rate were low at initiation of progress, increased to show maximum at the low moisture on mid-progress and then decreased gradually. Freeze drying showed the most constant quality of product in this case.

In this paper, the standard procedures for measuring the moisture sorption properties of thin polymeric materials such as polyethylene terephthalate (PET) by using the thermo-gravimetric method to characterize the moisture diffusion in the polymer are presented, and the sorption properties are quantified. The moisture diffusivity and solubility are characterized to investigate the effect of temperature and humidity on the moisture sorption properties according to the Arrhenius equation. The validation of the obtained sorption properties using thermogravimetry is discussed with the measured permeability based on Fickian diffusion. The nonlinear behavior of the concentration dependent moisture diffusion is investigated experimentally, and the nonlinearity is characterized numerically for the case of having an interface with an inorganic material such as a metal. The Fickian/Non-Fickian model based on the obtained moisture sorption properties is compared and discussed.

Reaction kinetics for the solid - state reaction of ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$with amorphous $SiO_2$to produce mullite ($3Al_2O_3;{cdot};2SiO_2$) was studied in the temperature range of 1450~$1480^{\circ}C$. Rate of kinetic reaction were determined by using $SiO_2$- coated $Al_2O_3$ compact containing 28.16 wt.% $SiO_2$and heating the reactant mixtures in MgO at definite temperature for various times. Amount of products and unreacted reactants were determined by X-ray diffractometry. Data from the volume fraction and ratio of peak intensities of mullite indicated that the reaction of ${\alpha}-;Al_2O_3$ with $SiO_2$to form $3Al_2O_3\;{\cdot}\;2SiO_2$ start between 1450 and $1480^{\circ}C$. The activation energy for solid-state reaction was determined by using the Arrhenius equation; The activation energy was 31.9 kJ/mol.
The electrochemical behavior of magnesium ions was examined by cyclic voltammetry in a molten $MgCl_2-CaCl_2$-NaCl salt. The reduction potential of magnesium ions was measured and those values were estimated with the variation of the concentration of $MgCl_2$ and the temperature of molten salts. The diffusion coefficient of the $Mg^{2+}$ ions has been determined at 660, 680, 700, 720 and $740^{\circ}C$. The values were $8.79{\times}10^{-6}$, $9.56{\times}10^{-6}$, $1.17{\times}10^{-5}$, $1.4{\times}10^{-5}$ and $1.77{\times}10^{-5}\;cm^2\;s^{-1}$. The activation energy for the diffusion processes of $Mg^{2+}$ ions was found to be $70.28\;kJ\;mol^{-1}$ by using the Arrhenius equation.

The char oxidation characteristics of ashless coal with a relatively low ash content and high heating value were experimentally investigated at several temperatures (from $900^{\circ}C$ to $1300^{\circ}C$), in various oxygen concentrations (from 10% to 30%) under atmospheric pressure in a drop tube furnace. The char reaction rate was calculated from the exhaust gas concentrations (CO, $CO_2$) measured by FT-IR, and the particle temperature was measured by the two-color method. In addition, the activation energy and pre-exponential factor of ashless coal char were also calculated based on the Arrhenius equation. The results show that higher temperature and oxygen concentration result in a higher reaction rate of ashless coal, and the activation energy of ashless coal char is similar to that of bituminous coal.
The rates of the forward mutarotation of poly(trans-5-methyl-L-proline) in trifluoro-ethanol and of the reverse mutarotation in trifluoroethanol-n-butanol (1:4 v/v) have been measured at a number of temperatures and polymer concentrations. It was found that both mutarotations are of first-order with respect to the polymer concentration. A modified Arrhenius equation to evalute the activation energy was derived for the reaction kinetics, in which the relation between the measured physical properties and concentration, and the order of tle reaction are uncertain. The activation energies for the forward and reverse mutarotation were found to be 32.5 and 33.5 kcal per residue mole, respectively, which are about 10 kcal per residue mole higher than the $E_a$ for the mutarotation of polyproline (the resonance energy of amide bonds). The excessive quantity of the activation energy was attributed to the steric barrier between carbonyl and methyl groups during the cis-trans isomerization of amide bonds in the polymer.
