  • The horizontal thermal storage tank with heat pipe which is suitable for the sensible heat storage system is able to store a hot water from the heat source such as heating pad efficiently and to supply a hot water to load rapidly. Therefore Arrangement of heating pad affects thermal flow and thermal storage efficiency. So, if effective arrangement is decided for condition of constant number of heating pad, the more rapid thermal flow effect and higher thermal storage efficiency is obtainable by active heat transfer. In this experiments, number of heating pad is ranged from three, five and nine, and when number of heating pad is constant, arrangement are two types of concentration-type and dispersion-type. As a result, for the case of concentration-type of heating pad, strong entrainment take place in horizontal thermal storage tank with heat pipe by active heat transfer and in the constant number of heating pad, the concentration-type has the higher efficiency with about 5∼6% than the dispersion-type. Therefore, when heating pad is equipted to horizontal thermal storage tank with heat pipe, concentration-type of heating pad is an efficient design in constant number. of heating pad.

  • For the minimum weight design of ship structures it is desirable that tank arrangement is predetermined to obtain the minimum weight and then structural arrangement and scanting of each murder is determined to obtain the minimum weight within the given tank arrangement. To carry out the tank arrangement to give minimum weight a minimum weight design program which covers whole ship structures is developed by the combination of minimum weight design program of longitudinal members by classification rules and minimum weight design program of transverse members by generalized slope deflection method which were developed by the authors. The hullweight is estimated by summation of the weight of cargo hold part and the weight except cargo hold part which can be estimated by the empirical formula. In this study, the variation of hullweight is shown with the number of tank, the number of web and the location of longitudinal bulkhead. For the application of actual design alternative designs of tank arrangement which satisfy MARPOL regulation are determined. And several minimum weight designs of whole ship structures are carried out to obtain the tank arrangement which gives minimum weight and then the hullweight is compared with that of existing ship.

  • We show that if a graph G is compressed, then the proper part of the intersection poset of the corresponding graphical arrangement $A_G$ has the homotopy type of a wedge of spheres. Furthermore, we also indicate the number of spheres in the wedge, based on the number of adjacent edges of vertices in G.

  • We show that for any graph G, the proper part of the intersection poset of the corresponding graphical arrangement $\mathcal{A}_G$ has the homotopy type of a wedge of spheres. Furthermore, we also indicate the number of spheres in the wedge, based on the number of spanning forests of G and other graphs that are obtained from G.

  • Numerical simulations are carried out for the fluid flow and particle transport around two nearby circular cylinders in a side-by-side arrangement. The present study aims to understand the effects of the particle Stokes number and the spacing between two cylinders on particle dispersion and deposition characteristics. Simulations are based on an Eulerian-Lagrangian approach where the motion of particles is calculated by a Lagrangian approach based on one-way coupling. Results show that the flow structure is very different depending on the cylinder spacing, eventually affecting the overall pattern of particle dispersion significantly. It is also found that particles with smaller Stokes number tend to be distributed more uniformly in the wake of two cylinders, being located even inside the vortex cores. Meanwhile, particle deposition is analyzed in terms of the deposition efficiency and deposition location. The deposition efficiency of particles strongly depends on the Stokes number, whereas it is slightly affected by the cylinder spacing. The deposition location gets wider as the Stokes number increases, and it becomes asymmetric about the center of each cylinder as the cylinders get close.

  • Basic problem of pile foundation is three dimensional in nature. Three dimensional finite element formulation is employed for the analysis of pile groups. Pile, pile-cap and soil are modeled using 20 node element, whereas interface between pile or pile cap and soil is modeled using 16 node surface element. A parametric study is carried out to consider the effect of pile spacing, number of piles, arrangement of pile and soil modulus on the response of pile group. Results indicate that the response of pile group is dependent on these parameters.

  • The arrangement graph, which is a viable interconnection scheme for parallel and distributed systems, has been proposed as an attactive altemative to the n-cube. However, A fault tolerant design model which is well suitable for the arrangement graph doesn't has been proposd until recently, but fault tolerant design modelsfor many schemes have been proposed ina large number of paper. So, our paper presents a new fault tolerant design technique suited for the arrangement graph. To maintains the previous structures when it ocurs a fault in the current processing, the scheme properly sugbstitutes a fault-componnent into the existing structures by adding a spare component. the first of all, it converts arrangement graph into a circulant graph using the hamiltonian property and then uses automorphism of circulant graph to tolerate faults. Also, We optimize the cost of rate fault tolerant architectures by adding exactly k spare processor while tolerating up to k processor and minimizing the maximum number of limks per processor. Specially, we proposes a new techniue to minimize the maximum number of links.

  • The inherent feature of the highly efficient spectrum usage has made Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) preferable for Communication Standards. This study evaluated the performance of a Least Square (LS) estimator for a comb-type pilot insertion scheme over a fast fading Rayleigh channel. A High Peak-to-Average Power Ratio (PAPR) is one of the major downsides of the OFDM. The effects of an increase in the number of subcarriers on PAPR and the performance of the LS Estimator were studied. Increasing the number of subcarriers while keeping the pilots overhead constant resulted in improved performance of the LS estimator but the PAPR increased with increasing number of subcarriers. Therefore some trade-off between the number of subcarriers and the performance of the OFDM system is needed. The Mean Square Error (MSE) expression was also derived for the LS estimator in the case of a comb-type pilot arrangement. The MSE expression clearly explains the effects of the number of subcarriers on the performance of the LS estimator.

  • A relationship between reader arrangement and DOP is derived from the geometry matrix of the TDOA-based position tracking system. It is shown that the minimum value of the DOP is affected by the number of readers, arrangement of readers and position of the tag. The relationship is verified through computer simulations for two cases of reader arrangement.

  • It is very important to arrange landmarks when a mobile robot needs to measure its own location. So, it has been discussed often how to arrange landmarks in the optimal way until now. We, there, chose the RFID (Radio frequency Identification) tags as landmarks which can be observed by a mobile robot, and demonstrated the possibility of the optimal arrangement of them. For this work first, we defined the optimization problem and its parameters for the arrangement of tags. Second, we proposed the algorithm which can be applied to the optimization problem. Finally we could obtain closely optimal and practical arrangement with the minimum number of landmarks which satisfied the necessary condition by experimentation.
