  • Low Floor buses have no steps to get on or get off the main cabin to provide the old and the handicapped with easy access. The car body for the low floor bus was designed to consider Korean physical standard, passenger capacity (standee, seated, handicapped), arrangement of vehicle components, and bus law or regulations. It was designed as an one body, without any reinforcement armature, which has light-weight sandwich constructions with glass epoxy skins, aluminum honeycomb cores and inner-frames. In this paper, torsion rigidity of the designed car body was evaluated and compared with that of a car body with reinforcement armatures in the cabin. Finite element method verified that the designed car body without reinforcement armatures could satisfy requirements of torsion rigidity.

  • Solid and papillary cystic neoplasm of pancreas is an uncommon low grade malignant tumor. It is predominant in young female between the second and third decades of life, and amenable to cure by surgical treatment. The authors report two cases of solid and papillary neoplasm of pancreas pathologically verified at Kyung Hee University Hospital. The first case was an 11-years old female patient and the other case was a 12-years old male. Symptoms were abdominal discomfort, nausea and vomiting in both cases and abdominal pain in the female patient. CT finding included a solid and papillary neoplasm of pancreas. The mass was well-demarcated with solid and cystic necrosis components. In the female patient, a large hematoma was found. Gross findings revealed apparent encapsulation, cystic degeneration and hemorrhagic necrosis. Microscopically the tumors were characterized by distinctive solid and papillary patterns of cellular arrangement without local invasion. Both patients were discharged after surgery and followed up without any problem.

  • Histochemical observations on the effect of gold alloys crown margin in the periodontal membrane were caried out by use of rabbits. The animal were setted with gold alloys crown on the incisor teeth. The cervical margins were given extence into gingival sockets. The animals were sacrificed at the 30 days experimented period. Specimens of tissue were obtained from the mandibular incisor teeth with jaw. All tissues were fixed immediately in 10% neutral formalin solution. Different histochemical staining methods for the determination of fibrous components were the Mallory-Heidenhain Bielschowsky-Gomori, Gomori's aldehyde fuchsin. Periodic acid-Schiff reaction and Hematoxylin eosin stanin method. The results were as follows. The periodontal membrane is composed primarily of collagenous fibers and fibrous component run functional arrangement but in lower gold content groups, horizontal fiber groups were irregularly run. Elastic fibers were obligue run in experimental groups. There were no significant differences in reticularfibers in distribution.

  • Numerical analysis has been performed to investigate the effects of the turbulence intensity and Prandtl number on the local heat transfer around a circular cylinder in crossflow. The governing equations were reformulated in a non-orthogonal coordinate system with Cartesian velocity components and discretised by the finite volume method with a non-staggered variable arrangement. For laminar flow, the calculations were performed for the Reynolds numbers 26 and 200. The results showed good agreement with the experimental results. For turbulent flow of the Reynolds number $1{\times}10^5$ and $2{\times}10^6$, the results showed that with an increase in the turbulent intensity in the main stream, the local Nusselt number increases in the front region of the circular cylinder. But the effect of turbulent intensity on the local Nusselt number diminishes in the wake region. The influence of Prandtl numbers show similar trend to that of turbulent intensity.

  • Low dielectric constant SiOC(-H) films have been prepared by inductively coupled plasma chemical vapor deposition using bis-trymethylsilyl-methane (BTMSM) and $O_2$ precursors. The annealing effects on the structural and electrical properties were studied. The results indicate post-annealing could efficiently remove the hydroxyl (-OH) related groups from the as-deposited films and cause the chemical structure re-arrangement, resulting in the more nano-pores being formed in the annealed SiOC(-H) films. The dielectric constant decreased from 2.7 to 2.1, and the refractive index decreased from 1.427 to 1.32.

  • When looking for solutions of Jisuguimundo with magic number 88~92 and 94~98, alternating method is applied to each possible partitions of each magic number. But this method does not apply in case of finding solutions of Jisuguimundo with magic number 87, 93, and 99. In this study, it is shown that solutions of Jisuguimundo with magic number 87, 93, and 99 can be found by applying alternating method to two partitions. These two partitions are derived partitions obtained by each partitions of magic number 87, 93, and 99. If every number from 1 to 30 which satisfy every unit path of Jisuguimundo can be found in all components of these two derived partitions, that arrangement is just a solution of Jisuguimundo. The method suggested in this study is more developed one than the method which is applied to just one partition.

  • An experimental study has been performed on heat and mass transfer in a falling film absorber with a strong lithium bromide solution in small-sized household absorption chiller/heater. Components were concentrically arranged in a cylindrical form. from the center, low temperature generator, absorber and evaporator. This arrangement of helical-typed heat exchangers allows to make the machine much more compact than conventional one. Experimental measurements were conducted with a helical absorber and the obtained data were compared with data in the literatures. The comparison revealed that the helical absorber tube provides a similar performance to existing tube bundle absorber in heat and mass transfer. As a result, the heat and mass transfer characteristics of helical type absorber showed the possibility of the reduction in size and weight of small] capacity absorption chiller/heater.

  • Wind loading of a tall building built amidst a group of buildings in urban environment is always greatly affected by shielding effects. Wind tunnel tests were carried out to assess the shielding provided by a row of low-rise or medium-rise buildings upstream a square-section tall building of height-to-breadth ratio 6. Mean and dynamic wind loads on the tall building were measured at different wind incidence angles and presented as interference factors (IFs). It is found that presence of a row of upstream buildings provides significant shielding to the tall building. At normal wind incidence, the mean along-wind loads and all components of fluctuating wind loads on the tall building are always reduced by shielding. Vortex shedding seems to still occur on the upper exposed part of the tall building but the vortex excitation levels are largely reduced. The degree of shielding is found to depend on a number of arrangement parameters of the row of upstream buildings. Empirical equations are proposed to quantify the shielding effect based on the wind tunnel data.

  • As a new type of ballastless track, longitudinal continuous slab track (CST) has been widely used in China. It can partly isolate the interaction between the ballastless track and the bridge and thus the rail expansion device would be unnecessary. Compared with the traditional track, CST is composed of multi layers of continuous structures and various connecting components. In order to investigate the performance of CST on a long-span bridge, the spatial finite element model considering each layer of the CST structure, connecting components, bridge, and subgrade is established and verified according to the theory of beam-rail interaction. The nonlinear resistance of materials between multilayer track structures is measured by experiments, while the temperature gradients of the bridge and CST are based on the long-term measured data. This study compares the force distribution rules of ballasted track and CST as respectively applied to a long span bridge. The effects of different damage conditions on CST structures are also discussed. The results show that the additional rail stress is small and the CST structure has a high safety factor under the measured temperature load. The rail expansion device can be cancelled when CST is adopted on the long span bridge. Beam end rotation caused by temperature gradient and vertical load will have a significant effect on the rail stress of CST. The additional flexure stress should be considered with the additional expansion stress simultaneously when the rail stress of CST requires to be checked. Both the maximum sliding friction coefficient of sliding layer and cracking condition of concrete plate should be considered to decide the arrangement of connecting components and the ultimate expansion span of the bridge when adopting CST.

  • This study was conducted to determine the effects of beak trimming, stocking density (D) and sex (S) on live weight (LW), carcass yield and its component, and plasma glucose (PG) and triglyceride levels in Large White turkeys. To accomplish this aims, totally 288 d old large white turkey chicks (144 in each sex) were used. Beaks of 77 male and female poults were trimmed when 8 d old with an electrical beak trimmer. The birds were fed by commercial turkey rasion. Experiment was designed as 2 × 2 × 2 factorial arrangement with 3 replications in each group. Beak trimming and stocking density did not affect live weight, carcass composition and its components. The higher LW and carcass weight observed in trimmed groups. As expected, male birds are heavier than female, and carcass percentage (CP) would be adverse. However, in this study, CP of male was higher in trimmed, in 0.25 m2/bird. (D) × sex (S) interaction had an effect on both CP and thigh weights (p<0.05). Significantly D × S was observed in LW, CP and PG. The weight of carcass and its some components were higher in male. S × D interaction had an effect on plasma glucose level (p<0.05). Triglyceride level was affected (p<0.05) by sex. Significant relationships were found between percentage of thighs (r=0.447, p<0.01) and percentage of breast (r=0.400, p<0.01). According to this study, it can be said that trimming is useful with density of 0.25 m2/bird in turkey fattening.
