  • This paper describes the synthesis of alkali metal salts of urea (ureates) and their application to the direct preparation of 4-nitrosoaniline from nitrobenzene via nucleophilic aromatic substitution of hydrogen. Sodium and potassium ureates were readily prepared from the reaction of urea with sodium hydride, metal methoxides, and metal hydroxides. The effect of ureates as nucleophiles on the conversion of nitrobenzene to 4-nitrosoaniline was investigated and compared with that of a urea-metal hydroxide mixture. It was found that the ureates were superior for producing 4-nitrosoaniline owing to their higher thermal stability of the ureate. The ureate obtained from the treatment of urea with sodium hydride gave the highest yield for the preparation of 4-nitrosoaniline. The ureates generated from the reaction of urea with metal hydroxide also gave high yields of 4-nitrosoaniline. Catalytic hydrogenation of 4-nitrosoaniline afforded polymer-grade 1,4-benzenediamine in quantitative yield.

  • The dihydrido iridium(Ⅲ) complex [$Ir(PPh_3)_2H_2(ac)_2$]$BF_4$ (ac=acetone) reacts with 2-phenylpyridine and 7,8-benzoquinoline to yield the C-H activated complexes [$Ir(PPh_3)_2$H(ac)(L)]$BF_4$ (L= phenylpyridine; 7,8-benzoquioline). The dihydrido iridium(Ⅲ) complex [$Ir(PPh_3)_2H_2(ac)_2$]$BF_4$ also reacts with triaklysilane via an oxidative addition reaction to yield the trihydrido iridium complexes [$Ir(PPh_3)_2H_3SiR_3$]$BF_4$ (R =Et and Ph). The structual configuration was studied by conventional spectroscopy.

  • The aim of this study was to determine the effects of sous-vide cooking temperature on the triceps brachii of black goats. Triceps brachii of black goats (12 months) were sous-vide cooked at 55℃, 60℃, and 65℃. The samples were examined for color, scanning electron microscope photographs, sarcomere length, fiber cross-sectional area, cooking yield, shear force, sensory evaluation, and aromatic profile. The results showed that CIE a*, CIE b*, and chroma increased with increasing sous-vide cooking temperature. However, the cooking yield significantly decreased with increasing sous-vide cooking temperature, and the shear forces of the 60℃ and 65℃ samples showed no significant differences. For sensory evaluation, the 60℃ sample showed the highest scores for flavor, texture, and off-flavor. Furthermore, the 60℃ sample showed the significantly lowest value of octadienone (aroma characteristics of metallic) intensity (p<0.05). Therefore, sous-vide cooking of triceps brachii of black goats at 60℃ is effective in reducing off-flavor and improving tenderness.

  • Cellulose, consisted of 45 wt% in wood, is usable as fuels and heavy oil additives if depolymerized to monomer unit, because the chemical structures are similar to high octane materials found in gasoline. In this study, thermochemical degradation by solvolysis reaction of cellulose such as the effect of reaction temperature, reaction time and type of solvent on conversion yield and degradation products were investigated. It was found that the effectiveness of the solvent on the sovolysis reaction was as follows; acetone>n-butanol>tetralin. When acetone was used as a solvent, the highest cellulose conversion was observed to be 91.8% at 500$^{\circ}C$, 40min. Combustion heating value of liquid products from thermochemical conversion processes was in the range of 7,330${\sim}$7,410cal/g. The energy yield and mass yield in acetone-solvolysis of cellulose was as high as 66.8% and 37.0 g oil/100g raw material after 40min of reaction at 400$^{\circ}C$. Various aliphatic and aromatic compounds were detected in the cellulose solvolysis products. The major components of the solvolysis products, that could be used as fuel, were mesityl oxide, mesitylene, isophorone.

  • Fluorine-18 is considered to be the radionuclide of choice for positron emission tomography (PET). Thus, the development of small molecule-based radiopharmaceuticals for use in diagnostic imaging relies heavily on efficient radiofluorination techniques. Until the early 2000s, diaryliodonium salts and aryliodonium ylides were widely employed as labeling precursors to yield aromatic PET radiotracers with cyclotron-produced [18F]fluoride ion. Rapid recent progress in the development of efficient borylation methods has led to a paradigm shift in 18F-labeling methods. In addition, deoxyfluorination has attracted a great deal of interest as an alternative approach to aryl ring activation with 18F-. In this review, methods for radiolabel development are discussed with a specific focus on the progress made in the last 5 years. Other interesting 18F-based protocols are also briefly introduced. New methods for exploiting 18F- are expected to increase the number of 18F-labeling methods, to allow applications in a range of chemical environments.

  • New film forming aromatic poly(amide-imide)s containing isoindoloquinazolinedione (IQ) unit in the backbone chain (polymer XIV) have been successfully synthesized by preparing prepolymers of poly(amic acid-carbonamide). followed by subsequent thermal cyclization of the prepolymers. 4,4-Diamino-3-carbamoylbenzanilide (DACB) V has been synthesized by reduction of 3-carbamoyl-4-amino-4-nitrobenzanilide IV. The prepolymers of poly(amic-acid-carbonamide) (polymers VII and VIII) which exhibit viscosities ranging from 1.4 to 1.7 dl/g have been prepared by a condensation polymerization of monomers such as BPDA, ODA, and DACB. Polymer XIV has been obtained by thermal cyclization of the polymers VII and VIII. During the thermal cyclization reaction, imide ring structure was first introduced and then transformed to the structure of IQ unit. The thermal degradation rate of the resultant polymers were influenced by the cleavage of amide bond but the final char yield was comparable to that of poly(BPDA-ODA).

  • In order to improve the optical properties of high yield pulp, bleached chemi-thermo-mechanical pulp (BCTMP) was produced from CTMP of Betula maximowicziana Regel by two staged ozone-hydrogen peroxide bleaching. This pulp was used for the evaluation of the improvement of optical properties, chemical characteristics of lignin in fiber, and the relationship between lignin and optical properties in fiber cell wall. By hydrogen peroxide treatment, the brightness was improved, but the post color number (PC No.) was not. There was little improvement on optical properties by ozone treatment, but his could be solved by using two staged ozone-hydrogen peroxide bleaching. The hydrogen peroxide treatment did not make nay change on chemical characteristics of lignin in cell wall, but by ozone treatment, it was found that the non-aromatic conjugated structure was existed in the surface of cell wall, but this could be removed by hydrogen peroxide treatment in two staged ozone-hydrogen peroxide treatment. Therefore, the optical properties was significantly improved due to the removal of non-aromatic conjugated structure.
