The aroma constituents of Chrysanthemum indicum L. were separated by the hydro distillation extraction method using a Clevenger-type apparatus, and were analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC/MS). The yield of Chrysanthemum indicum L. flower oil was 2.0% (w/w) and the color was light golden yellow. Sixty-three volatile flavor components, which make up 89.28% of the total aroma composition of the flower oil, were tentatively characterized. This essential oil contained 35 hydrocarbons (48.75%), 12 alcohols (19.92%), 6 ketones (15.31%), 3 esters (4.61%), 5 aldehydes (0.43%), 1 oxide (0.22%), and 1 miscellaneous component (0.04%). ${\alpha}$-Pinene (14.63%), 1,8-cineol (10.71%) and chrysanthenone (10.01%) were the predominant volatile components in Chrysanthemum indicum L., an aromatic medicinal herbaceous plant.
Essential oil components from tobacco powder were investigated as flavouring agent. The essential oil was isolated from tobacco powder by a simple distillation /extraction method The extracted essential oil was fractionated into basic, acidic and neutral groups. And the neutral group of essential oil was separated by column chromatography into 10 fractions. Above groups and fractions were tested for tobacco aroma and smoke aroma. The neutral group except most nonpolar fraction displays good flavouring properties which make them highly suitable for improving the flavour and aroma of tobacco and tobacco smoke. The most nonpolar fraction from neutral group was carefully investigated using preparative column, thin layer and gas chromatography ailed by GC/MS coupling. The major subfraction was identified as hydrocarbons on the basis of the IR spectrum. The 58 hydrocarbon components were identified by their mass spectra and was chromatographic retention times.
Objective : As this is a quasi-experimental study by the post-test design for a nonequivalent control group, it was attempted to verify the effect of massage using aroma oil on whether or not the normal vaginal delivery of primiparous mothers. Methods : As for the experimental treatment, it applied the aroma oil massage to the experiment group when the cervical dilatation was $4{\sim}5cm$, and as for the data analysis, it conducted the significance test using the program of SPSS 12K for Windows, with Chi-square test $(X^2)$ and t-test. Results : The experiment group that carried out the aroma massage therapy, was high in the cases of normal vaginal delivery(P<0.05), compared to the control group that did not carry out the aroma massage therapy. Conclusion : The experiment group, which received the aroma massage therapy, had significant difference in the cases of normal vaginal delivery, compared to the control group that did not receive the aroma therapy, thus the aroma massage therapy is thought to be a nursing-intervention plan, which can be usefully applied as to the primiparous mothers aiming at normal vaginal delivery.
Purpose. The aim of this study was to provide Aromatherapist with analysis of the effect of natural aroma essential oil on middle school students' self-concept. Methods. In total, 20 students were recruited to answer a self-administered questionnaire in pre and post. The questionnaire was composed of questions about general self-concept, class self-concept, achievement self-concept, ability self-concept, social self-concept, family self-concept, emotional self-concept, physical self-concept. The natural aroma essential oil program was operational in a 90-minute once a week for ten weeks. Results. As a result, the score of emotional self-concept(t=-2.60, p<.05) is higher than pre the experiment post experiment. Conclusions. This study is to get a basic data of natural aroma should be applied to improve self-concept of middle school students.
This study compared aroma compositions and sensory aroma attributes of raw and cooked Tenebrio molitor larvae (mealworms). Main sensory aroma attributes of raw mealworms were strong wet-soil-like, and less-intense oily, shrimp-like and sweet-corn-like. Quantitatively, the major aroma components of raw mealworms were hydrocarbons and aldehydes. As cooking proceeded, sweet-corn-like, roasted, and fried-oil-like sensory attributes were increasingly perceived with steaming, roasting, and frying, respectively. Some pyrazines, pyrrolidines, and carbonyls increased or appeared in roasted and fried mealworms. Partial least squares regression also showed differences in raw and cooked mealworms based on aroma components and their sensory attributes. Unlike raw mealworms, steamed mealworms had a relatively strong sweet-corn-like aroma attribute, which was related to 2,4,6-trimethyl-heptane, 2,4-dimethyl-dodecane, and 3,5-dihydroxy-6-methyl-2,3-dihydropyran-4-one. In comparison, roasted and fried mealworms exhibited roasted, shrimp-like, and fried-oil-like aroma attributes, which were associated with intermediates of the Maillard reaction and lipid oxidation, such as pyrazines, alcohols, and aldehydes. This result during thermal reactions was very similar to those of meat and/or seafood. The use of mealworms as a savory-type flavor enhancer can be expected.
Purpose. The aim of this study was to provide Aromatherapist with analysis of correlation between MBTI personality type and scent preference of natural aroma essential oil in university students. This study examined the therapeutic effects of aromatherapy for the treatment of otitis externa in dogs. Eleven dogs with otitis externa were examined. The control group (5 dogs) was treated with susceptible antibiotics, and the experimental group (6 dogs) was treated with aroma-oil applied topically to the ear canal. The aroma-oil contained 10 ml sweet almond oil, 0.3 ml bergamot oil, 0.2 ml lavender oil, 0.1 ml tea tree oil and 0.1 ml roman chamomile oil. The blended aroma-oil (0.1 ml) was applied to the ear canal twice daily for 2 weeks. The authors examined the changes in the clinical signs, bacterial count in discharges, total WBC count and neutrophil/lymphocyte ratios in the two groups. The bacterial cell counts in the experimental group were significantly lower at one (p < 0.01) and two weeks (p < 0.05) after treatment than the control group. These results suggest that aromatherapy is an effective and practical treatment for otitis externa in dogs.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of abdominal aroma massage on constipation in college women with functional constipation.
