Tidal Changes of Kyonggi-Bay Region After the Large Reclamations in the Inchon Coastal Area (인천 연안해역의 대규모 매립사업에 따른 경기만 일대의 조석특성 변화)

  • The changes of tidal characteristics of Kyonggi-Bay Region after the Large Reclamations in the Inchon Coastal Area have been studied by the numerical modelling. The constructions of Inchon International Airport and Sihwa Seadike were considered as the main reclaimation projects in this region. A two dimensional hydrodynamic model was used for this study, and it was composed in relatively high resolution with curvilinear orthogonal coordinate. As the results, at the Inchon harbor and Palmido, where a deep channel is developed, the semi tidal ranges(Z$_0$) were decreased in 8 cm after the two reclamations. However, the Z$_0$ values in the outside of the deep channel were decreased only in 2~4 cm, so that the tidal changes in the deep channel were greater than in the outside of it. After the reclamations, the maxmum velocity was increased 17% at the Inchon harbor, however it was decreased from 1. 55 m/s to 1.10 m/s at the Palmido. This is because the available area in which the stream may spread out was largely reduced after the reclamations. An Asan-bay region, the Z$_0$ was decreased in 5 cm at the Punyang-man and Asan-man stations located after the reclamations in Inchon coastal area. However the changes of Z$_0$ were very little at the outside of Asan-bay. In Asan-bay, the current velocity and direction were little influenced by the reclamations in Inchon coastal area.

Comparison of the accuracy of domestic dental intra-oral scanner(e-scanner) and model scanner (국산 치과용 구강스캐너(e-scanner)와 모델스캐너의 정확도 비교)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the discrepancy of scan process in dental intra oral scanner by comparing model scanner and anticipate possibility to introduce intra oral scan technique. Methods: 3D superimposition test was conducted to compare the scan discrepancy. The scanners used in this study are the e-oral scanner, the D750 model scanner, and the high precision CMM(3D Coordinate Measuring Machine). The standard of accuracy verification is ISO 5725-1; trueness and precision. Master model was manufactured by dental stone and scanned 5 times by intra oral, model scanner. Reference data was scanned 5 times by high accuracy CMM to evaluate the trueness. Results: Trueness of D750 scanner were $7.4{\mu}m$ $5.1{\mu}m$ $6.8{\mu}m$ at an abutment, an occluasal, a specific area. and trueness of e-scanner were $20.2{\mu}m$ $27.4{\mu}m$ $37.8{\mu}m$ at an abutment, an occluasal, a specific area. Precision of D750 scanner was $7.04{\mu}m$, e-scanner was $15.95{\mu}m$. Conclusion: When conducting in vitro test, The mean difference of trueness between e-scanner and D750 were $12.8{\mu}m$ at an abutment area, $22.3{\mu}m$ at an occlusal area, $31.0{\mu}m$ at a specific area and $8.91{\mu}m$ in precision. The scan discrepancies are within the range of clinical acceptance.

Development of 3D GIS System for the Visualization of Flood Inundation Area (홍수범람지역 가시화를 위한 3차원 GIS 시스템 개발)

  • Recently, flood damages have increased with heavy rainfall and typhoon influences, and it requires that visualization information to the flood inundation area of downstream in dam discharge. This study developed 3D GIS system that can visualize flood inundation area for Namgang Dam downstream. First, DEMs extracted from NGIS digital maps and IKONOS satellite images were optimized to mount in iWorld engine using TextureMaker and HeightMaker modules. And flood inundation area of downstream could be efficiently extracted with real-time flooding water level using Coordinate Operation System for Flood control In Multi-reservoir (COSFIM) and Flood Wave routing model (FLDWAV) in river cross section. This visualization information of flood inundation area can be used to examine flood weakness district needed in real time Dam operation and be applied to establish the rapid flood disaster countermeasures efficiently.

  • The linear SEF (Spectral Edge Frequency) parameter and spectrum analysis method can not reflect the non-linear of EEG. This method can not contribute to acquire real time analysis and obtain a high confidence in the clinic due to low discrimination. To solve the problems, the development of a new index is carried out using the bispectrum analyzing the EEG including the non-linear characteristic. At the bispectrum analysis of the 2 dimension, the most significant's power spectrum density peaks appeared much at the specific area in awake and anesthesia state. Because many peaks are showed at the specific area in the frequency coordinate, these points are used to create the new index. Range of the index is 0-100. At the anesthesia, the index is 20-50 and at the awake, the index is 90-60. New index can discriminate the awake and anesthesia state.

Shape Optimization of Arches (아치구조의 형상 최적화)

  • This paper considers the problem of optimum shaping of steel arches subjected to general loading. The weight of arches is considered as the objective function and the appropriate combinations of section forces, material volume, arc length, and closed section area of arches are considered as the stress constraints. The shape optimization problems are formulated in terms of the design variables of sectional areas of each element. First the cost sensitivity of the design is investigated. Then the investigation comprises the search for the optimum arch form as well as the optimum area distribution along the arch. Two spaces of shape optimization algorithm will be treated, the first space corresponding to the section optimization by the Modified Newton Raphson Method, and the second space to the coordinate optimization by the Powell Method. The optimization algorithm is evaluated and the optimum span-rise ratios for the given arches are evaluated.

  • This paper proposes an efficient remote video evaluation system that is matched well with personalized characteristics of students using information filtering based on user profile. For making a question in forms of video, a key frame extraction method based on coordinate, size and color information is proposed. And Question-mating intervals are extracted using gray-level histogram difference and time window. Also, question-making method that combined category-based system with keyword-based system is used for efficient evaluation. Therefore, students can enhance their study achievement through both supplementing their inferior area and preserving their interest area.

  • This paper describes an alignment algorithm that estimates the initial heading angle of AUVs (Autonomous Underwater Vehicle) for starting navigation in a sea area. In the basic dead reckoning system, the initial orientation of the vehicle is very important. In particular, the initial heading value is an essential factor in determining the performance of the entire navigation system. However, the heading angle of AUVs cannot be measured accurately because the DCS (Digital Compass) corrupted by surrounding magnetic field in pointing true north direction of the absolute global coordinate system (not the same to magnetic north direction). Therefore, we constructed an experimental constraint and designed an algorithm based on extended Kalman filter using only inertial navigation sensors and a GPS (Global Positioning System) receiver basically. The value of sensor covariance was selected by comparing the navigation results with the reference data. The proposed filter estimates the initial heading angle of AUVs for navigation in a sea area and reflects sampling characteristics of each sensor. Finally, we verify the performance of the filter through experiments.

  • Fastener is a very important component that is used in various areas in industry. Recently, various color fasteners are introduced. According to this, online inspection is required in this area. In this paper, an algorithm for the automatic extraction of the surface of color fastener using color information and dynamic programming is presented. The outer boundary of fastener is found using the difference of color that enables robust processing. The inner boundary of fastener is found by dynamic programming that uses the difference of brightness value within fixed area after converting image to polar coordinate. Experiments are done using the same parameters.

Usability of inclinometers as a complementary measurement tool in structural monitoring

  • In the last few years, many structural monitoring studies have been performed using different techniques to measure structures of different scales such as buildings, dams or bridges. One of the mostly used tools are GPS instruments, which have been utilized in various combinations with accelerometers and some other conventional sensors. In the current study, observation series were recorded for 8 hours with GPS receivers (NovAtel) and Inclination Measurement Sensors mounted on a television tower in Istanbul, Turkey. Each series of observations collected from two different sensors were transformed into a single coordinate system (Local Topocentric Coordinates System). The positional changes of the tower were calculated from the GPS and the inclination data. These changes were plotted in two dimensions (2D) on the same graphic. Thus, the possibility of comparison and analysis were found using the data from both the GPS and the Inclinometer complement each other, in the real test area. The positional changes of the tower were modeled for further examination. As a result, the movement of the tower within an area of $1{\times}1cm^2$ was observed. Based on the results, it can be concluded that inclinometers can be used for monitoring the structural behavior of the tower.

VLSI Implementation of CORDIC-Based Digital Quadrature Demodulator (CORDIC을 이용한 디지탈 Quadrature 복조기의 VLSI 구현)

  • Digital quadrature demodulator is needed for the coherent demodulation in the digital communication systems such as Binary Phase-Shift-Keying, Quadrature Phase-Shift-Keying, and Quadrature Anmplitude Modulation. Conventaionally, the DDFS (Direct Digital Frequency Synthsizer) is used for generating the carrier signal and seperate multi-pliers are used for mixing. And the DDFS is implemented using the ROM (Read Only Memory), which can be a bottle-neck neck when the fast-speed and small-area implementation is required. A new architecture is developed, which employs the circular rotation mode of the CORDIC algorithm for signal mixing as well as carrier generation. To optimize the hardware design parameters, the finiteword-length effects of the proposed implementation arachitecture are analyzed in comparison with a conventional ROM-based architecture. The hardware costs are also estimated, which showed that the proposed architecture occupies only a third of the area of the conventional ROM-based architecture for the same performance. A full-custom VLSI is developed using the proposed architecture.
