The point of this study consists in analysing influences of the postmodern design in the contemporary architecture. Since the modern architecture, new concept of architectural design has been materialized in the Late-Modern and the High-tech style but the revolutionary changes has been tempted by the postmodern architects who introduced the Rhetorical language in the contemporary architecture. In concrete terms postmodern architecture divided architectural elements from existing function (according to U. Eco, it is the primary function of architecture) and gave another function which is the secondary function or the symbolic function or architecture. And the methods of deviation from the conventional code is exactly the rhetorical expression technique which governed the history of art in Europe (but these technique is more intensively applied in the postmodern architecture) So this study is purposed to analyse the different rhetorical "figyres" regarding the syntax and semantic of the architectural langyage, and particularly to approach to the basic mechanism of the New Design Concept in the Contemporary Archiecture.chiecture.

Before the information revolution, written languages used to be our major communication method, but with development of various types of mass media technologies the role of visual images are becoming more and more essential. Computer which is one of the most popular information medias of today has influenced our lives in many ways including the way we communicate through icons. The current study first explores Peirce's semiotic theory and then accordingly Investigates programs, concepts and expressions of iconic designs. Lastly, analyze modern iconic architectural design examples by using the theoretical framework in order to define concepts of semiotic and its relationship architectural design applications as design methods.

This research focused on the hysteretic energy performance of 12 steel moment-resisting frames, which were intentionally designed by three types of design philosophies, strength control design, strength and drift control design, and strong-column and weak-beam control design. The energy performances of three designs were discussed In view of strength increase effect, stiffness increase effect, and strong-column and weak-beam effects. The mean hysteretic energy of the 12 basic systems were statically processed and compared to that of single-degree-of-freedom systems. Hysteretic energy was not always increased with an increase of strength and stiffness in the steel moment-resisting frames. Hysteretic energy between strong-column and weak-beam design and drift control design with the same stiffness was not sensitive each other for these types of mid-rises of steel moment-resisting frames.

The purpose of this study is, to increase the number of and improve environmental quality of kindergartens, to minimize the time and effort required in the design and construction of kindergartens by providing architectural design guidelines(space program and area guideline). The prerequisite condition of this study, in particular, is to provide the standardized design process for designing kindergartens which has merits such as provision of more qualified environment, minimization of the effort required in the design. Through the review of domestic regulations, domestic and foreign guidelines, and on-sight investigation of existing kindergartens, the practical guidelines for space program, areas, elevations and material planning were proposed.

The design composition elements and the mechanical behavior of trusses have been investigated for Pratt trusses. As a result, it was determined that the design composition elements of the trusses consist of the composition of webs, the distance between joints, the chords profile, the depth of the truss, and the double chord composition. In addition, by analyzing models with a variation of elements, comprehensive features of structural behavior have been presented for variations of design of Pratt trusses. This is to provide more effective and useful design information on truss structure in the architectural and structural planning stage.

Contemporary architecture pursues new method of Interpretation of Non-linear space as digital media appears. As various materials and new methods can be used due to developments in science and expansion of thinking, contemporary architectural color developed extensive possibilities. It means not only the change of drawings, method of architectural product and materials but also the change of value system for architectural space. Thus the purpose of this paper is to suggest interpretation of space applied by color structure, and this point of view was based on the three elements of color perception which are light source, reflector, and observer. According to this categorization, architectural color of exterior color, layer color and interaction color are explained via examples of colors recently used on the contemporary architectures. In summary, contemporary architecture can be explained by Non-construction space interpretation for intrinsic complex meanings. Therefore, it can be explained as moving space, collage, by picturesque space, moving blur color and emptiness of color. This pursues various point of views for space interpretation, therefore it can be developed to the identity of strengthening architectures' design concept.

This study aims to show a possibility that music can be expressed in an architectural way by attempting architectural interpretation and application of the musical piece, Beethoven Piano Sonata op.57 through analyzing it and to suggest a method for the architectural design where spirituality and internality is emphasized on the basis of music. In conclusion, it was clarified that the concept and form of the music could be expressed architecturally. That is, the concept of time and space in the musical piece is expressed in that of time; the musical form in that of the spacial structure; and the rhythm, melody, harmony, timbre and tone color of the musical piece in point, line, shape, texture and color in the architecture.

The aim of this study is to understand and redefine the nature of architectural environment within the paradigm of natural science. The chaos theory non-equilibrium thermodynamics theory self-organization of modern physics offer new insights to explain not only natural phenomena but also to define creative and dynamic architectural environment. First natural laws in modern physics like the arrow of time but is related not only with certainty but also possibility so nature is understood as a constantly changing process of evolution. Second the new architectural environment is defined as a kind of fluid and irreducible organic biosytem that cannot be fully understood by modernist idea of architecture. It is conceived of as a fluid constantly changing self-oraganizing system that consists of different situations events movements and programs in uncertain and irreducible time frame. Third insights and implications of natural science offer new language and strategy for design and the two disciplines can be understood as interdependent and co-evolving

This study is intended to understand the architectural characteristics and trends of general hospitals in Europe. The Observations, interviewes with the staff, and analyses of related materials were executed through the study-visits of sample hospitals. Some results of the study could be summarized as follows : (1) The architectural characteristics of sample hospitals could be described as the realization of horizontal design concept, application of urban design method, specialization of service departments, intergration of facility design, and planning for the emergency & disaster. (2) The architectural trends of sample hospitals could be suggested as the decentralization of functions, promotion of building standard, enhancement of interior space, consideration of environment, and autonomous management & operation of facilities. (3) The humanistic and environmental approaches from european hospitals would be preferably applicable rather than the popular concept of automation, ultra-modernization and mega-structure in Korea. First of all, the bed-center and proper facilities for disaster should be considered.

Basically, modern architect's translation of relations between architectural space and human beings is focused upon the space and the way the space is experienced. Thus, the architecture is construed not as the finalized and fixed structure but as something undetermined and In progress. Here, we can identify the similarity between current trend and theory on process. Experience argument in this study is based upon such a similarity. And for your understanding of the spatial concept broached in the following experience argument, I've presented the analysis of Ben van Berkel's and Kazuyo Sejima's works that represent user's experiences in discussing art works. Taking a step further, I'll try to provide the true definition of being in progress and the potential of the architecture, thereby seeking the value and meaning of trends in modern architecture. In this regard, this study is aimed to analyze the attributes of experiences in progress identified in the art works of Ben van Berkel and Kazuyo Sejima and to extract and analyze the architectural concepts therein.
