  • This paper introduces an experimental design studio that explores the optimal use of current digital technologies in order to employ Building Information Modeling at the early phase of design process. Based upon the outcomes from the aforementioned studio, the paper discusses the integrated design strategies for BIM in the design process. In this paper, BIM is proposed as a design tool that increases an overal design productivity more effectively and efficiently compared to BIM as a construction tool with encouraging a design communication among different partakers in the design process.

On the standpoint of perpetuity in architecture the aesthetics of scientific rationalism in modernism based on the reasonable thinking regards the variety of inherent characteristic in architectural space as 'Transferential Space'. On the other hand, in regarding to architectural trend, the nature in architectural space has been considered as 'Existential Space' starting from the conscious construction of environments to help human existence in the existentialism. The Conclusion logic of follows as belows; first, the concept of space structure in architecture has been exchanged from Enclosed Space to Topological Space. • This Study is concerned with the present condition and prospect of architectural stained glass in Korea. Stained glass had been architectural art from the origin. But it had declined since the Renaissance era, and began to revive in the early 20th century. The stained glass inflowed with church architecture occasionally by the western missionaries. And it has been developed actively since 1980' with the boom in church building. There are about 30 studios which are making stained glass in Korea, but very few studio work true architectural stained glass. Stained glass is still treated as simple decoration or 2-dimensional mosaic. Architect and interior designer even have little understanding of architectural character of stained glass.I have considered the problems and prospected architectural stained glass which inspire modern architecture with human sensitivity in Korea.

  • This study is about the Characteristics of the Medievalism expressed in the German Architectural Expressionism. The concept of Medievalism is an attitude to revive the social and physical settings on Middle Ages. The social situation and architectural style in the Middle Ages were similar to the German Expressionism in the early 20th-century. The Medieval Characteristics of the German Architectural Expressionism were expressed in two ways -first, organic or sculptural style and second, fantastic or Crystal style. The architects such as Hermann Finsterlin, Henry van de Velde, Erich Mendelsohn, Rudolf Steiner, Hugo H ring, Hans Poelzig belonged to the first tendency, and such as Paul Scheerbart, Bruno Taut, Otto Bartning, Dominikus B hm belonged to the second tendency. The Medieval concept of the German architectural Expressionism was succeeded to Modern Architecture in 1950-1960s'. The architects in 1950-1960's such as Hans Scharoun, Gottfried B hm, Alvar Aalto, J rn Utzon intended to express organic and fantastic mass which was closely connected with the Medival concept of the German architectural Expressionism.

  • This paper, based on the surveys on 43 cases in whole Korea, aims to analyze the architectural principles extracted from the religious dogmas and to propose the direction of the expression of tradition in Korean religious architecture. Buddhist temples in the modern cities. Catholic churches, Anglican churches, Protestant churches have similar problems and attitudes on the expression of traditiov. They have not yet various subjects on the expression of tradition as 'tradition' is not distinguished from 'transmission'. It is not caused only by the general phase of Korean modern architecture, but also by the lack of the practical theology which extract architectural principles from religious dogma and history. I proposed 'Architectural vocabulary', 'Architectural syntax', 'Architectural idea', and 'Symbolization of interior space' , 'Architectural zeitgeist' as the ideal approach.

  • The aim of this study is to review the background and characteristics of Pallasmaa's architectural phenomenology. As a prominent architect, educator and phenomenologist, Pallasmaa criticizes the contemporary architecture that has been commercialized and intended to addict superficial images. He suggests the restoration of essentials of architecture related to human existence. His architectural phenomenology shows a solution to problems of contemporary architecture through focusing on architectural experiences. Pallasmaa argues 'multi-sensory architecture' to criticize architecture based on visual images and emphasizes the importance of tactile sense for architectural experiences. His phenomenology of architecture has significant meaning in that it bridges between theory and practice but also has limits in depth rather than width of theory. Pallasmaa believes that the essence of architecture can be explained as existential activities to maintain existence of our lived space.

  • The purpose of this study is to understand Archigram's architectural works by analysing Archigram, which was a little magazine issued from 1961 to 1974. Studies on the Archirgam's architectural works have been mostly focused on their projects themselves, not within the context of the medium, Archigram (little magazine). However, Archigram as a little magazine worked as a platforms where ideas and projects could be developed and communicated among the members. Therefore, this study focused on the distinct features of Archigram's architectural works which were influenced by its little magazine, Archigram. The major conclusion of this study is that Archigram's architectural works worked as media themselves; Archigram's architectural works are open-end conclusions which can be transformed and developed by other members; Archigram members created new temporality, creating 'up-to-the-minute' architecture.
