Purpose: The purpose of study was to measure stroke patients' ability to balance and their degrees of clinical function and to examine the effect of the aquatic exercise method using tasks related to these features. Methods: Twenty stroke patients were randomly assigned to an aquatic task exercise group and a land task exercise group. Both groups used the same exercise method for 60 minutes each session, three times a week for 12 weeks at the same time point and with the same amount of exercise. Results: Before and after the exercise, static balance was measured using balance measuring instruments locomotive faculties, muscular strength, and dynamic balance were assessed through the Berg balance and 10 m gait tests. Finally, gait abilities were measured, and the data obtained were analyzed to generate the results. Conclusion: Both groups showed significant improvement, but the aquatic exercise group showed slightly more significant results in static balance, Berg balance, and upright walking tests. It is thought that the improvement of stroke patients' balance and gait ability can be triggered through the application of aquatic exercise programs in the future.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine exercise program and outcome variables of exercise intervention studies from 1985 to 2004 in 9 major nursing journals in Korea. Method: From 81 articles, publishing year, research design, subjects, exercise program and outcome variables were analyzed. Results: The 57 papers(70.4%) were experimental research among 81 papers. Subjects of exercise intervention studies were demonstrated that patients were 55.6% while healthy person was 44.4%. Exercise type by the subjects which demonstrated the highest proportion was dance movement for the elderly, walking for the middle aged women and aqua exercise for the arthritis. The 40 papers(49.4%) included exercise duration, frequency and time for the exercise program which demonstrated the highest proportion. Outcome variables to determine the effect of exercise intervention were demonstrated to be physical function, physiological index, psychological and emotional variables, cardiopulmonary function, body composition, physical symptoms, variables related to exercise and behavior in order. Conclusion: Half of the exercise intervention papers included exercise duration, frequency, time and intensity for the exercise program. Frequently used outcome variables to determine the effect of exercise intervention were demonstrated to be physical function, physiological index and psychological emotional variables.

Research was conducted to analyze and improve the kinetic performance of offshore wind power generators. The shape used in this study was taken with reference to the previous paper, and the size of the repair area was designed at 80%, 60%, 40%, and 20%, respectively, and the exercise performance was confirmed accordingly. The sea state was calculated in Sea State 4, 5, and 6. In the calculation process, the calculation was performed using commercial computational hydrodynamics (ANSYS) and AQUA. In the case of overall exercise performance, it was confirmed that the smaller the size of the repair area, the smaller the exercise such as heave, roll, and pitch. However, it was confirmed that in the case of a shape in which the size of the repair area was rapidly reduced, there may be cases in which the restoration performance was not satisfied when the restoration calculation was performed. In addition, it was confirmed that there may be an appropriate repair surface depending on the sea condition.

Purpose: This study examined the effect of the strengthening exercise and stretching exercise to decrease symptom patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS). Methods: The Anterior Knee Pain Scale (AKPS) and Clark's test performed for diagnosis of intrinsic PFPS among young adults. Selected thirty young adults subjects who aged 20~26 years participated in the study. Participants were randomly assigned to strengthening, stretching, or control groups. Strengthening group consisted of quadriceps, hamstring and iliotibia band training used elastic band. Stretching group consisted of quadriceps, hamstring and iliotibia band trainings used stretching exercises program. Participants received 50-minute individualized exercise sessions, 3 times a week for 6 weeks. Results: The results were as follow: there were significantly difference stretching exercise group by all muscles on muscular strength test (p<.05). there were significantly difference both strengthening and stretching exercise group by all muscles on flexibility test (p<.05). There were significantly difference stretching exercise group by all muscles on step-down test (p<.05). There were significantly difference both strengthening and stretching exercise group by all muscles on visual analog scale (p<.05). Conclusion: Results suggest important implications for exercise programs of PFPS that stretching exercise is more improved knee pain, functional performance, patella mobility than strengthening exercise.
Childhood obesity is harmful to health and growth. We had experienced a childhood obese patient. From Feb. 28. 2003 to July. 14. 2003. We applied Chegameuiyin-tang(體感意苡仁湯), electrolipolysis and VLCD(very low calorie diet), behavioral therapy, aerobic exercise, infra-red therapy, auricular acupuncture, and aqua-massage. Through this obesity treatment during 5 months, total weight loss was 12.2kg, reduction of percent body fat was 13.4% (from 38.5 to 25.1), her condition and hepatic index(AST, ALT) was improved.
We experienced a male patient who was diagnosed as very severe abdominal obesity. From the 3rd of January to the 14th of April we applied herbal medication(Tiganyiyiren-tang), very low calorie diet, aerobic exercise, behavioral therapy, electrolipolysis, infra-red therapy, auricular acupuncture, and aqua-massage to him. And we examined the changes of his height, weight, body composition, body size, liver functional test, abdominal CT finding. The food production of this year has decreased by 5 percent. His weight decreased by 28.2%, PIBW by 28.5%, BMI by 28.2%, PBF by 22.7%, and WHR by 15.9%. The circumference of upper extremity decreased by 25.7%, the circumference of the muscle of upper extremity by 18.2%, the circumference of chest by 20.5%, the circumference of abdomen by 29.5%, the circumference of hip by 17.4%, and the circumference of thigh by 15.9%. In the liver functional test GOT decreased from 42IU/l to 361U/I, GPT from 1211U/l to 48IU/I. Total cholesterol from 211mg/dl to 152mg/dl, and Trigliceride from 192mg/dl to 81 mg/dl. In the abdominal CT finding the amount of fat in the abdominal cavity decreased from $9732mm^2$ to $3639mm^2$.
Objectives: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the parents' awareness on the oriental medical treatment and their expectation on children's growth. Methods: The survey was conducted on 78 Health Kids Fair visitors, and 87 children's height and weight were measured in this study. Results: 1. Compare to other treatment, 62.82% of the parents responded that herbal medicine is relatively effective in treating weakness, followed by 'Allergic disease'(46.15%) 'Growth disturbance'(26.92%) 'Obesity'(26.92%) 'Respiratory disease'(26.92%) 'Digestive disease'(19.23%) 'Precocious puberty'(8.97%) 'Neurologic & psychologic disease'(6.41%) 'Urogenital disease'(3.85%). 2. Parents recognize that 'Oriental medicine have an effect on children's height mostly'(25.64%) 'Oriental medicine have an effect on children's height partially'(64.10%) 'Oriental medicine have no effect on children's height'(10.26%) 25.64% of the parents responded that herbal medicine would be helpful in increasing height, 64.10% of the parents said they would be helpful to the certain extent, and 10.26% said they would not play any roles. 3. Expected average weight, height, and BMI score for the boys were 71.8kg, 179.6cm and 22.10. For the girls, however, they were 53.4kg, 168.7, and 18.74. 4. Survey on parents' awareness on benefits of different treatments for challenged growth, Herbal medicine'(48.72%) 'Acupuncture'(7.69%), 'Moxibustion'(3.85%), 'Electronic acupuncture and Aqua acupuncture'(1.28%), 'Massage on acupuncture point'(19.23%), 'Consultation of eating habits'(61.54%), 'Consultation of exercise'(47.44%) were measured. This study was a systematic review and meta-analysis comparing the effects of aquatic exercise and land-based exercise in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis. 7 studies (n=449) met selection and exclusion criteria out of 287 potential studies obtained from the literature search via Ovid-Medline, Cochrane Library CENTRAL, CINAHL, RISS and KISS. The overall risk of bias of selected studies using SIGN (Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network) checklist for randomized controlled trials (RCT) was regarded as low. As a result of meta analysis, Standardized Mean Difference (SMD) for pain was -0.26(95% CI -0.49, -0.03, p=0.03, $I^2=14%$), which implies that aquatic exercise groups had significant less pain than land-based exercise groups. On the other hand, there was no significant difference between aquatic exercise groups and land based exercise groups for flexion Range of Motion (ROM) (-0.12, 95% CI -0.51, 0.27, p=0.53, $I^2=0%$), extension ROM (-0.04, 95% CI -0.55, 0.48, p=0.89, $I^2=43%$), physical function (-0.12, 95% CI -0.44, 0.19, p=0.44, $I^2=0%$), Quality of Life (QOL) (-0.15, 95% CI -0.54, 0.24, p=0.46, $I^2=0%$). This study has some limitations due to few RCTs comparing aquatic exercise groups and land-based exercise groups in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis. Therefore, further RCTs should be conducted along with long-term outcomes.
