  • In this paper, a hybrid stabilization approach involving both passivity observer/passivity controller and wave variables is addressed to stabilize a teleoperation system with fixed time delay. To guarantee the stability of master or slave side, passivity observer/passivity controller are applied. But, passivity observer/passivity controller cannot deal with communication delay, and thus even small communication delay cause the system to be unstable. To cope with this problem, wave variables are additionally employed to have robustness to fixed communication delays. To show the validity of our proposed approach, several computer simulation results are illustrated.

  • A dynamic discount approach is proposed for the estimation of the Poisson parameter and the forecasting of the Poisson random variable, where the parameter of the Poisson distribution varies over time intervals. The recursive estimation procedure of the Poisson parameter is provided. Also the forecasted distribution of the Poisson random variable in the next time interval based on the information gathered until the current time interval is provided.

  • The optimal-time control of the coordinated motion of two robot manipulators may be of consequence in the industrial automation. In this paper two robot manipulators garsping a common object are assumed to travel a specified Cartesian path and the method how to derive the optimal-time solution is explained. This approach is based on parameterizing the corresponding patn and utilizing the phase-plame technique in the trajectory planning. Also the torques supplied by the actuators are assumed to have some constant bounds. The effectiveness of this approach is demonstrated by a computer simulation using a PUMA 560 manipulator.

  • We investigate the optimal consumption and investment problem when a working debtor has an option to file for bankruptcy. By applying the duality approach, the closed-form solutions are obtained for the case of CRRA utility function. The optimal bankruptcy time is determined by the first hitting time when the financial wealth hits the wealth threshold derived from the optimal stopping time problem. Moreover, the numerical results show that the investment increases as the wealth approaches the threshold and the value gain from the bankruptcy option is vanished as wealth increases.

  • In this paper, we consider the guaranteed cost filtering design method for time-varying delay system with parameter uncertainties by LMI(Linear Matrix Inequality) approach. The objective is to design a stable guaranteed cost filter which minimizes the guaranteed cost fo the closed loop systems in filtering error dynamics. The sufficient conditions for the existence of filter, the guaranteed cost filter design method, and th guaranteed cost upper bound are proposed by LMI technique in terms of all finding variables. Finally, we give an example to check the validity of the proposed method.

  • This study concentrates on the second-order diffraction problem around circular cylinders in multi-frequency waves. The method of solution is a time-domain Rankine panel method which adopts a higher-order approximation for the velocity potential and wave elevation. In the present study, the multiple second-order quadratic transfer functions are extracted from the second-order time signal generated in random waves, and the comparison with other bench-mark test results shows a good agreement. This approach is directly applicable to prediction of nonlinear forces on offshore structures in random ocean.

  • This paper presents an analysis of a 4th order LCLC resonant converter with a capacitive output filter using the state-space approach. The analysis of the converter shows that there are four intervals in a half period. In each interval, the state-space equations are obtained. Due to the soft switching of the converter, an exact equation for the Zero Voltage Switching (ZVS) time and the maximum dead time of the inverter switches are presented. The simulation and experimental results obtained from a 10kv, 370w prototype confirm the validity of the theoretical analysis.

  • A new approach to conducting the vibration parameters identification algorithm is proposed. The approach employs the concept of modal amplitude ratio implemented in a mode shape estimation. The accuracy of the improved Ibrahim Time Domain identification algorithm in extracting structural modal parameters from free response functions has been studied using computer simulated data for 9 stations on the two-span continuous beam. Simulated responses from the lumped and distributed parameter system demonstrate that this algorithm produces excellent results, even in the 300% noise response.

  • This paper reviews the literature on life course as a perspective in family studies. Life course approach on family studies have been emerged since 1960. This approach, which is challenging accepted knowledge and theory, partly reflects a shift in analytic perspective from structural models to a more behavioral thrust that views as a actor in structured situations, Life course approach is a theoretical orientation for our understanding of the linkage between individual and family development in context of changing historical context. Life course approach contributes time, process, and context to receiving in sociological perspectives on family and kinship.

  • Students' protocols obtained from think-aloud interviews were analyzed in the aspects of the success at first two problem-solving stages (understanding and planning), the time to complete a problem, the time at each problem-solving stage, the number of transition, and the transition rate. These were compared in the aspects of the context of problem, the success in solving problem, students' logical reasoning ability, spatial ability, and learning approach. The results were as follows:1. Students tended to spend more time in everyday contexts than in scientific contexts, especially at the stages of understanding and reviewing. The transition rate during solving a problem in everyday contexts was greater than that in scientific contexts. 2. Unsuccessful students spent more time at the stage of understanding, but successful students spent more time at the stage of planning. 3. Students' logical reasoning ability, as measured with the Group Assessment of Logical Thinking, was significantly correlated with the success in solving problem. Concrete-operational students spent more time in completing a problem, especially understanding the problem. 4. Students' spatial ability, as measured with the Purdue Visualization of Rotations Test and the Find A Shape Puzzle, was significantly correlated with their abilities to understand a problem and to plan for its solution. 5. Students' learning approach, as measured with the Questionnaire on Approaches to Learning and Studying, was not significantly correlated with the success in solving problem. However, the students in deep approach had more transitions and greater transition rates than the students in surface approach.
