Current Distribution and Loss Calculation of a Multi-layer HTS Transmission Cable (다층 고온 초전도케이블에서의 전류분류 및 손실 계산)

  • Superconducting transmission cable is one of interesting part in power application using high temperature super-conducting wire as transformance. One important parameter in HTS cable design is transport current distribution because it is related with current transmission capacity and loss. In this paper, we present the calculation theory of current distribution for multi-layer cable using the electric circuit model and in example, calculation results of current distribution and AC loss in each layer of 4-layer HTS transmission cable.

  • Superconducting power cable is one of the most promising energy application of high-Tc superconductors (HTS). Thus, we investigated previously the characteristics on electrical and mechanical Bi-2223 Ag sheathed tape. And a prototype HTS cable have been designed, constructed and tested. The result shows that the transport current of HTS cable (1, 19-filament) in LN2 was 116[A], 240[A], respectively. And AC loss of HTS cable(19-filament) was 1.7 [W/m] in 240 [A] loading.

  • The history of IFMFC (International Forum on Magnetic Force Control) shows the usefulness of the magnetic force control in the fields of the environment and material resource in Japan, Korea and China. The IFMFC started in 2010 and has been organized in every year. This paper shows the application of the magnetic force control in each countries with the accumulated knowledge and experience of the magnetic force control with IFMFC.

  • In this study, the experimental study based on calorimetry for terminal cryostat has been performed and evaluated. The experiments performed here were divided into two types, those are test without and with current lead. The former is intended for the evaluation of feasibility and precision of our calorimetry, the later for the application to terminal cryostat of our study. As a result, it was found that the calorimetry performed in this study could predict well the heat transfer rate into the terminal cryostat.

  • A vortical axis flywheel system was conceptualized, which uses a hybrid superconductor bearing set to carry the wheel part load. The multiple designs of magnetic bearing and superconductor bearing were analyzed by using conventional numerical magnetostatic analysis method The best medels were selected among four different types of Permanent magnet bearings for upper bearing and two types of superconductor bearing for lower bearing, respectively These results were discussed in regard of application to the flywheel system with a Passive hybrid magnetic bearing set.

  • In this paper the performance of the high speed circuit breaker with fault current detector is described. The operating mechanism of circuit breaker in use is a magnetic actuator and a fault current detector is based on the DSP and A/D converter. The results show that 3-cycle is enough to interrupt the fault current and the more speed up performance is expected with on-going project.

  • The technologies using magnetic force control have been investigated toward application in various fields. Some of them have been put into practical use as the results of technological development. This paper introduces our technical development in the field of water processing, scale removal, magnetic drug delivery system, decontamination of radioactive substances and resources recycling.

  • A horizontal axle-type superconductor flywheel energy storage system has many great features such as extensibility and stability compared to the traditional vertical axle-type flywheel systems. In this paper, a prototype flywheel device with a horizontal axle is presented briefly, and the hybrid construction as an essential supplement in superconductor journal bearing design against the levitation drift is proposed.

  • The main issues for the power application of high Tc superconducting tape are lower AC loss and higher stability conditions. HTS tape has large stability margin by high heat capacity of superconductor itself and high temperature margin. But, it can be damaged by continuous heat generation at quench point, because normal zone propagation velocity by generating heat is very low. Here, we analyze the quench propagation characteristics using finite element method for BSCCO-2223 HTS tape.
