  • This study investigates the factors influencing the usage of PSAU Mobile Application by the students at Prince Sattam bin Abdulaziz University (PSAU). This study used Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) as a framework to predict the factors influencing 67 students' usage of PSAU M-Application. The results of this study were consistent with the TAM framework in predicting the actual usage of the PSAU mobile application for academic activities. The results indicated a significantly positive association of the perceived ease-to-use with perceived usefulness, significantly positive associations of the perceived ease-to-use and the perceived usefulness with the attitude toward the usage of the PSAU's mobile application, a significantly positive association of the perceived usefulness with the behavioral intention toward the usage of the PSAU's mobile application, a significantly positive association of the students' attitude toward the usage of the PSAU's mobile application with the behavioral intention of using the application, and a significantly positive association of the behavioral intention with the actual usage of the PSAU's mobile application. The results of this study should be useful to educational policymakers at PSAU University and elsewhere, as there is an opportunity to enhance the existing technology or adopt new technologies for academic activities.

  • Recently, the number of mobile phone and PDA users has been rapidly increased. Such monitoring and control applications as geographical and traffic information systems are being used widely with wireless devices. In this paper, we introduce the mobile M/VC application framework that supports the rapid constructions of mobile monitoring and control (M/VC) applications. The mobile M/VC application framework uses the mobile Observer/Observable pattern that extends the Java's Observer/Observable for automatic interactions of server and client objects in wireless environments. It also provides the Multiplexer and Demultiplexer classes that supports the assembly feature of Observer and Observable objects. To construct an application using the framework, developers just need to create necessary objects from the Observable and MobileObserver classes and inter-connect them structurally(like the plug-and-play style) through the Multiplexer and Demultiplexer objects. Then, the state change of Observable objects is notified to the connected Observer objects and user's input with Observer objects is propagated to Observable objects. These mechanism is the main process for monitoring and control applications. Therefore, the mobile M/VC application framework can improve the productivity of mobile applications and enhance the reusability of such components as Observer and Observable objects in wireless environments.

  • ICT based convergence application is one of the most prevalent industrial issue these days. Despite of criticalness and potential economic opportunities of the ICT based convergence, theoretical research to analyze the feasibility and estimate the economic impact of the application is rather limited. This paper is intended to fill this research gap. In this respect, we develop theoretical framework to quantitatively estimate the differential benefits of convergent applications, which necessarily include underling ICT technology's contribution attributes extractions, and resulting value increments engendered from user's process effectiveness when ICT based service application is adopted. The research model to assess the differential value of the ICT based service application is developed, grounded on theoretical framework of TPC (Technology-to-performance chain) and contingency fit theories. Scenario based survey method is adopted, and SmartPLS 2.0. is used for statistical analysis of the structural equation model using 312 questionnaire. Valid statistical results are presented to provide useful insight.

  • Recently, various in-vehicle networks have been developed respectively in order to accomplish their own purpose such as CAN and MOST. Various electronic devices for vehicle are controllable by the advent of networks attached to the vehicle. However, the networks also come with a variety of unique features in each network-specific communication which creates difficulty using and supporting the interoperable services among the networks. To solve this problem, each network needs a standard integration framework. In this paper, a framework is proposed and implemented. It consists of a standard protocol using XML to improve compatibility and portability. The framework makes each network interoperable by applying unique information and messages of the network in the XML standard document. The results obtained by implementation show that the framework supports the efficient communication of data between heterogeneous invehicle networks.

  • With the advent of the Internet-of-Things paradigm, the amount of data production has grown exponentially and the user demand for responsive consumption of data has increased significantly. Herein, we present DART, a fast and lightweight stream processing framework for the IoT environment. Because the DART framework targets a geospatially distributed environment of heterogeneous devices, the framework provides (1) an end-user tool for device registration and application authoring, (2) automatic worker node monitoring and task allocations, and (3) runtime management of user applications with fault tolerance. To maximize performance, the DART framework adopts an actor model in which applications are segmented into microtasks and assigned to an actor following a single responsibility. To prove the feasibility of the proposed framework, we implemented the DART system. We also conducted experiments to show that the system can significantly reduce computing burdens and alleviate network load by utilizing the idle resources of intermediate edge devices.

  • Radio Frequency Identification(RFID) is technology that identify products using radio frequency transmission. We read EPC from Tag in RFID environment, but we can see only what the identify objects are and it is too limited to get the additional detailed information by the EPC. Therefore many companies and organizations have studied RFID system in order to effectively use it. But the existing RFID system still has the complication that we should fully understand various knowledges, communicating ways, etc, and the insufficiency to support the application development in order to treat the business event of the related application. In this paper, I propose business event that we can conveniently use in FRID application and shows Business Event Framework. BEF which is able to deliver the business event produced to the application.

  • In order to vitalize the Rich Communication Service-e(RCS-e) service, RCS-e users need various ways to use RCS including RCS-e apps. A RCS standards organization has suggested Application Program Interface(API). Since it only dealt with functional requirements, it was not enough to implement the API. This paper suggests an open API framework that can utilize RCS-e through a web interface. By using the framework, web developers can implement various RCS-e-enabled web applications. A system architecture is defined for the framework. Call flows for establishing a RCS-e session between the framework and other nodes are defined. Also, rules and examples for translating protocols between them are provided. Finally, performance evaluation proves that the proposed framework does not add loads to the existing network infrastructure.

  • Extraction of regions of interest (ROIs) is the first and important step for the applications in computer vision and affects the rest of the application process. However, ROI extraction can be easily affected by the environment such as illumination, camera, etc. Many applications adopt problem-specific knowledge and/or post-processing to correct the error occurred in ROI extraction. In this paper, proposed is a robust framework that could overcome the environmental change and is independent from the rest of the process. The proposed framework uses a differential image and a color distribution to extract ROIs. The color distribution can be learned on-line, which make the framework to be robust to environmental change. Even more, the components of the framework are independent each other, which makes the framework flexible and extensible. The usefulness of the proposed framework is demonstrated with the application of hand region extraction in an image sequence.

  • Mobile Government is one of the new and important developments in e-government. The promise of m-government to provide greater access to government information is progressing in many developed and developing countries. Current Mobile Government does not exploit the full potential of available technology. Research shows there is a lack of a perfect killer application [2][1]. Firstly, this paper begins with an overview of e-gov and m-gov. In this context, this paper aims to present a framework to find killer applications in M-government to which researchers must pay attention and develop suitable way to perform according to different countries' contexts.
