Experimental analysis of rocking shallow foundation on cohesive sand

  • One of the most important parameters affecting nonlinearsoil-structure interaction, especially rocking foundation, is the vertical factor of safety (F.Sv). In this research, the effect of F.Sv on the behavior of rocking foundations was experimentally investigated. A set of slow, cyclic, horizontal loading tests was conducted on elastic SDOF structures with different shallow foundations. Vertical bearing capacity tests also were conducted to determine the F.Sv more precisely. Furthermore, 10% silt was mixed with the dry sand at a 5% moisture content to reach the minimum apparent cohesion. The results of the vertical bearing capacity tests showed that the bearing capacity coefficients (Nc and Nγ) were influenced by the scaling effect. The results of horizontal cyclic loading tests showed that the trend of increase in capacity was substantially related to the source of nonlinearity and it varied by changing F.Sv. Stiffness degradation was found to occur in the final cycles of loading. The results indicated that the moment capacity and damping ratio of the system in models with lower F.Sv values depended on soil specifications such cohesiveness or non-cohesiveness and were not just a function of F.Sv.

Residual behavior of SRRAC beam and column after exposure to high temperatures

  • Composite effect between steel and recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) in steel reinforced-RAC (SRRAC) structures can effectively improve RAC's adverse mechanical properties due to the natural defects of recycled coarse aggregate (RCA). However, the performance of SRRAC after thermal exposure will have a great impact on the safety of the structure. In this paper, firstly, the mechanical properties of SRRAC structures after high temperatures exposure were tested, including 24 SRRAC columns and 32 SRRAC beams. Then, the change rules of beams and columns performance with the maximum temperature and replacement percentage were compared. Finally, the formulas to evaluate the residual bearing capacity of SRRAC beams and columns after exposure to high temperatures were established. The experimental results show that the maximum exposure temperature can be judged by the apparent phenomenon and mass loss ratio of RAC. After high temperatures exposure, the mechanical properties of SRRAC beams and columns change significantly, where the degradation of bearing capacity and stiffness is the most obvious. Moreover, it is found that the degradation degree of compression member is more serious than that of flexural member. The formulas of residual bearing capacity established by introducing influence coefficient of material strength agree well with the experimental results.

조밀한 포화 실트질 모래지반에서 횡방향 반복하중을 받는 말뚝의 p-y 거동 평가 (Assessment of p-y Behaviors of a Cyclic Laterally Loaded Pile in Saturated Dense Silty Sand)

  • 해상풍력 구조물을 지지하는 말뚝기초는 바람, 파랑, 조류 등에 의한 횡방향 반복하중을 지배적으로 받는다. 해상풍력 구조물의 안정적인 성능확보를 위해서 횡방향 반복하중을 받는 말뚝기초의 지지거동을 적절히 평가해 설계에 적용할 필요가 있으며, 말뚝 및 지반을 각각 탄성빔과 비선형 스프링으로 가정하는 p-y 곡선방법이 가장 널리 활용되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 조밀한 포화 실트질 모래지반에 설치되어 횡방향 반복하중을 받는 말뚝기초의 p-y 거동을 평가하기 위해서, 1g 모형말뚝시험을 수행했다. 모형시험 결과, 말뚝에 횡방향 반복하중 재하 시 p-y 곡선의 강성(초기기울기 및 최대지반반력)이 점차 감소했다. p-y 곡선의 강성감소는 반복하중의 크기가 크고 지표면에 가까운 위치에서 더 명확하게 나타났는데, 상기조건에서 말뚝 주변지반의 교란효과가 크게 발생해 지반의 지지능력이 더욱 크게 감소했기 때문이다. 모형시험 결과를 활용해 조밀한 포화 실트질 모래지반에 설치되어 횡방향 반복하중을 받는 말뚝기초의 p-y 곡선을 제안했다. 등가정적해석을 통해 예측된 말뚝거동을 모형시험결과와 비교한 결과, 제안된 식을 통해 비교적 조밀하고 포화된 실트질 모래지반에서 반복하중을 받는 말뚝의 횡방향 지지거동을 적절히 평가할 수 있음을 확인했다.

해상풍력기초 신뢰성해석 사례분석 연구 (Case Study on Reliability Analysis of Offshore Wind Turbine Foundation)

  • 기존의 설계방식 및 유한요소법에 의해 모델링된 해상풍력 기초의 거동특성을 비교하였고, 확률론적 측면에서 기초형식에 따른 해석사례를 비교 분석하였다. 동일한 수심 및 지반조건에서 동일한 형식의 기초를 설계할 경우 가정모델에 따른 거동양상을 비교한 결과 지반의 강성을 고려하는 가상고정식과 분포 스프링식은 부재력에 차이가 크지 않은 반면, 이를 고려하지 않는 지반고정식은 상대적으로 부재력이 작게 산정됨으로써 보다 불안정한 설계를 유도하는 경향이 있었다. 다시 말해 기초와 지반의 상호관계는 해석결과에 크게 영향을 미치므로 지반의 강성을 고려함이 합리적이다. p-y 방법과 FEM 모델을 이용하여 각각 동일한 모노파일을 해석한 결과 상 하부에서 상당한 오차가 발생하였고, 특히 직경이 큰 경우에 파일 하부에서의 오차가 크게 나타남으로써 5m 이상의 대구경 모노파일 설계 시는 FEM 등 정밀해석이 병행되어야 하며, 해저지반 특성의 면밀한 고려와 공학적 판단이 필요하다. 트라이포드 및 모노파일 형식의 기초를 동일한 수심 및 지반조건에 대하여 신뢰성을 해석한 결과 트라이포드 형식의 파괴확률이 매우 작게 산정되었고, 모노파일 형식은 파괴확률이 비교적 크게 산정되어 안전도가 낮게 평가될 수 있음을 알 수 있었다.

Pseudomonas elodea에 의해서 생산된 Gellan gum과 Agar의 rheology 특성 비교연구 (Study on rheological characterization of Gellan gum Produced by Pseudomonas elodea -Comparative Studies on Rheological Characterization of Gellan gum and Agar-)

  • The polysaccharide produced by pseudomonas elodea, Gellan gum, was rheologically characterized, compared with agar. Rheological properties were determined from the change in the value of intrinsic viscosity with the pH and salt concentration. At the range of pH 2∼ll and salt 0∼0.16M KC1, the intrinsic viscosity of Gellan gum ranged from 8.8 to 21.2dl/g and agar ranged from 1.97 to 11.46d1/g. In the absence of salt, the intrinsic viscosity of Gellan gum increased as the pH of solution increased up to neutral pH then decreased slightly at alkaline pH, whearas the intrinsic viscosity of agar increased as the pH of solution increased up to pH 9 then decreased slightly. Intrinsic viscosity of Gellan gum and agar decreased with an increase in salt concentration. The chain stiffness parameter for the Gellan gum was 0.033. The overlap parameter of Gellan gum and agar were 0.047g/dl and 0.087g/dl, respectively. Gellan gum and agar were shear rate dependent or pseudoplastic. The yield stress and proportionality constant of Gellan gum increased slightly as the concentration increase, on the other hand, the shear index of Gellan gum showed a maximum at 0.75g/dl and gradually decreased as the concentration increase. The apparent viscosity of Gellan gum and agar decreased as the temperature increase. A lower concentration of the divalent cations calcium and magnesium is required to obtain maximum gel strength than for the monovalent cations sodium and potassium.

Force limited vibration testing: an evaluation of the computation of C2 for real load and probabilistic source

  • To prevent over-testing of the test-item during random vibration testing Scharton proposed and discussed the force limited random vibration testing (FLVT) in a number of publications. Besides the random vibration specification, the total mass and the turn-over frequency of the load (test item), $C^2$ is a very important parameter for FLVT. A number of computational methods to estimate $C^2$ are described in the literature, i.e., the simple and the complex two degrees of freedom system, STDFS and CTDFS, respectively. The motivation of this work is to evaluate the method for the computation of a realistic value of $C^2$ to perform a representative random vibration test based on force limitation, when the adjacent structure (source) description is more or less unknown. Marchand discussed the formal description of getting $C^2$, using the maximum PSD of the acceleration and maximum PSD of the force, both at the interface between load and source. Stevens presented the coupled systems modal approach (CSMA), where simplified asparagus patch models (parallel-oscillator representation) of load and source are connected, consisting of modal effective masses and the spring stiffness's associated with the natural frequencies. When the random acceleration vibration specification is given the CSMA method is suitable to compute the value of the parameter $C^2$. When no mathematical model of the source can be made available, estimations of the value $C^2$ can be find in literature. In this paper a probabilistic mathematical representation of the unknown source is proposed, such that the asparagus patch model of the source can be approximated. The chosen probabilistic design parameters have a uniform distribution. The computation of the value $C^2$ can be done in conjunction with the CSMA method, knowing the apparent mass of the load and the random acceleration specification at the interface between load and source, respectively. Data of two cases available from literature have been analyzed and discussed to get more knowledge about the applicability of the probabilistic method.

긴장재의 슬립거동을 고려한 원자로 격납건물의 비선형 해석 (Nonlinear Analysis of Prestressed Concrete Containment Structures Considering Slip Behavior of Tendons)

  • 이 논문에서는 프리스트레스트 콘크리트 구조로 건설된 원자로 격납건물의 극한내압평가를 위해 비선형 유한요소해석을 수행하였다. 특히, 상용프로그램 사용 시 콘크리트와 긴장재의 완전부착 가정으로 인해 고려할 수 없었던 콘크리트와 긴장재 사이의 슬립효과를 모사할 수 있는 알고리즘을 개발하였다. 부착된 긴장재의 경우 부착-슬립효과를 기초로 유도된 겉보기 항복응력으로 두 재료의 상호거동을 모사할 수 있고, 비부착된 긴장재의 경우 반복해석에 의해 긴장재 전체 길이방향으로의 슬립효과를 모사할 수 있다. 개발된 알고리즘을 이용하여 도출된 긴장재의 응력-변형률 관계를 이용하여 격납건물의 축소모델에 대한 비선형 해석을 수행하였고, 수행한 결과를 바탕으로 격납건물의 극한내압은 가압중수로형과 가압경수로형 모두 설계압력의 약 3배 이상 구조적 여유가 있음을 확인하였다.

계장화한 긴 바를 사용한 세라믹판의 충격 파괴 거동 (Impact Fracture Behavior of Ceramic Plates Instrumented Long Bar)

  • A long bar impact test to alumina plates(AD 85 and AD 90) was carried out by using fabricated impact testing apparatus. The apparatus adopting a long bar of 2.1m in length made it possible to measure directly the applied impact force to the specimen during bar impact. The dimension of specimens was $33{\times}33mm$ and thickness was 3.4mm. Confinement of D2=18mm outer diameter and D1=10.5mm inner diameter was used to provide contact pressure to the specimen. Contact pressure of p=100 or 200MPa was applied to specimen before impact test. Damage caused in those cases were compared with the case of without contact pressure. The damage of specimen was different depending upon the pressure level of confinement. The existence of confinement had suppressed the development of radial cracks from the bottom of specimen and reduced the extent of damage as compared with cases without contact pressure(p=0MPa). Because the application of contact pressure to the specimen increased the apparent flexural stiffness of specimen during bar impact, it had produced the change of developed damage in the specimen; from the radial cracks to the local contact stress dominant damage. It would contribute to the improvement of the ballistic property in ceramic plates.

면섬유(綿纖維)에의 MMA/4-Vinylpyridine의 공(共)그라프트 중합(重合) (Graft Copolymerization of MMN4-Vinylpyridine onto Cotton Fiber)

  • Graft copolymerization of MMN4-VP onto cotton fiber using Ce(IV) salt as an initiator and triton X-100 as an emulsifier was performed under various polymerization conditions. In cograft polymerization, the polymeization behavior according to variation of 4-VP feed composition and the characteristics of MMA/4-VP graft polymer such as affinity for acid dye owing to cationization of cotton, antibacterial activity and thermal behavior were investigated. The results of this study were as follows : 1. While in copolymerization of MMA and 4-VP, 4-VP content in copolymer was more than that of monomer feed composition. 2. Increasing 4-VP content, graft yield was decreased, but graft efficiency was increased. In case of MMA/4-VP graft polymerization, the highest graft yield was obtained at higher CAN concentration than in MMA graft polymerization, the reason is that the behavior of 4-VP was disturbed by Ce(IV) sail 3. Elevation of temperature resulted in increase of graft yield and the apparent activation energy of MMA/4-VP graft polymerization was higher than that of MMA graft polymerization. 4. MMA/4-VP grafted cotton fiber showed affinity for acid dye, antibacterial activity and higher moisture regain than MMA grafted cotton fiber. MMA/4-VP grafted cotton fabric showed improvement of wrinkle recovery up to 40~50% graft yield and decreased thereafter. MMA/4-VP and MMA grafted cotton fabric did not showed significant difference in wrinkle recovery and stiffness.

Alcaligenes에 의해서 생성된 Rhamsan Gum의 리올리지 특성에 관한 연구 (Studies on Rheological Characterizaiton of Rhamsan Gum Produced by Alcaligenes -comparative studies on rheological Characterization of Rhamsan and Xanthangum-)

  • Rhamsan gum produced by Alcaligenes was rheologically characterized, and compared to that of xanthan gum. The rheological properties were derermined from the change in the value of intrinsic viscosity with pH and salt concentration. at the range of pH 2~11 and salt concentration of 0~1.0 M KCl, the intrinsic viscosties of rhanisan gum were in the range of 8.2 to 36.2 dl/g and those of xanthan gum 8.19 to 44 dl/g. In the absence of salt, the intrinsic viscosity of rhamsan gum and Xanthan gum increased as the pH of solution increased up to neutral pH, and then decreased at alkaline pH. The intrinisc viscosities of rhamsan and anthan gum were not affec6ted by the increment of salt concentration. the chain stiffness paramenter for the rhamsan gum was 0.016. The overlap paramoeters of rhamsan and xanthan gum were 0.025 and 0.022 g/dl, respectively. rhamsan and xanthan gum were shear rate dependent or pseudoplastic. The yield stress of rhamsan gum increased slightly, but the shear index decreased as the concentration increased. The apparent viscosityes of rhamsan and xanthan gum decreased as the temperature increased. The salt effect of divalent cations (calcium, magnesium) was lower than monovalent cations (sodium, potassium).
