Bandwidth Enhancement of an Aperture Coupled Microstrip Patch Antenna Using a Shunt Stub (병렬 스터브를 이용한 개구면 결합 마이크로스트립 패치 안테나의 대역폭 확장)

  • An impedance bandwidth enhancement method of an aperture coupled microstrip patch antenna (ACMPA) using a shunt stub is investigated. The conventional ACMPA with a H-shaped coupling aperture is designed and the electrical parameters for the equivalent circuit of the designed conventional ACMPA are extracted. A method for the enhancement of the impedance bandwidth of the ACMPA using a tuning stub connected in shunt with the feed line is presented. The -10 dB return loss impedance bandwidth of the ACMPA with a shunt stub is increased up to about 14 %. The maximum impedance bandwidth of the corresponding ACMPA without a shunt stub is 5.4 %. The increase of the impedance bandwidth of the ACMPA with a shunt stub compared to that of the corresponding ACMPA without a shunt stub is about 160 %.

  • In this paper, the aperture-coupled U-slot microstrip patch antenna is studied for the bandwidth improvement. The aperture is used as a mechanism for coupling the radiating element to the microstrip feedline, and the aperture-coupled configuration provides the advantage of isolating spurious feed radiation by the use of common ground plane. Experimental results such as return loss, VSWR, radiation pattern and gain measurements are presented on the aperture-coupled U-slot microstrip patch antenna. The impedance bandwidth (VSWR≤2) of the antenna is 6.4% centered at 2.35GHz, and the average gain is 5.3 dBi.

  • We have designed a high-transmission nano aperture in a perfect electric conductor film with the incident beam of 532 nm wavelength. The aperture basically has a C-shape and is known to produce a bright spot nearby the aperture in small size less than diffraction limit. The bright spot is strongly coupled with the local plasmon excited through the aperture hole. The characteristics of transmission and peak power of the aperture output were calculated using finite differential time domain (FDTD) technique, and the geometry of the aperture was determined to get a maximum transmission and peak power. To find the effect of the surface plasmon induced near by the aperture, we calculated the variations of the transmittance and the beam sizes by changing the size of the input beam irradiated on the aperture.

  • In this paper, aperture coupled microstrip antenna which has a larger bandwidth was designed using genetic algorithms. The genetic algorithms encodes each parameters which are the width, length of patch and the width, length of slot, into binary sequences, called a gen. Genetic algorithms searches a optimal gen to design a larger bandwidth. Simulation results are compared with Pozar's results.

  • 마이크로 스트립을 이용하여 셀룰러(824-894 MHz) 이통통신용 송수신 안테나를 설계 및 제작하였다. 이때 넓은 대역폭을 얻기 위하여 개구면 결합형(aperture-coupled) 안테나를 설계하였으며 사용된 기판은 2층의 FR-4 ($\varepsilon$$_{r}$ =4.7) 기판과 공기층을 합한 3단으로 이루어져 있다. 안테나 특성파악을 위한 스트립의 전류분포와 슬롯의 자류분포 해석은 전송선로 모델법을 적용하였고 제작된 안테나는 VSWR 1.5:1 이하의 높은 복사 특성을 얻으므로써 좁은 공간에서 편리하게 설치하여 쓸 수 있는 우수한 안테나임을 확인하였다.

  • A S / X dual broad band patch antenna with shared aperture structure is fabricated. A $2{\times}2$ perforated patch is used for S-band operation and a $2{\times}2$ patch antenna array is integrated in the $2{\times}2$ perforation for X-band operation. The measurement results of a S / X dual broad band patch antenna with shared aperture structure show the broad band characteristics larger than 20 % in both bands.

  • In this paper, aperture coupled stacked microstrip array antennas are proposed and their operating characteristics are analyzed based on analytical. In order to evaluate mutual coupling between slot-coupled microstrip patches in finite array, analysis uses the reciprocity theorem and the spectral domain Green's functions for dielectric slab in a moment method solution for the unknown patches and solts current distrbution. By introducing an N-port equivalent network, the impedance matrix of an affay of N-element slot-coupled patches is evaluated directly from its network current matix of order N$^{2}$, and it can be programmed to be run on a PC. Numerical results show mutual coupling, radiation pattern, active reflection coefficient versus scan angle, radiation efficiency and active element gain pattern.

  • In this paper, a novel series feeding cross-aperture coupled microstrip antenna with the effect of hybrid feeding is proposed and demonstrated experimentally to improve narrow axial ratio bandwidth of cross-aperture coupled antenna with single feeding among the various methods for generating circular polarization. The validity of a proposed series feeding cross-aperture coupled microstrip antenna is shown by comparing experimental results between the reported and the proposed microstrip antenna, and 2${\times}$2 array microstrip antenna based on the proposed single microstrip antenna used sequential rotation technique to accomplish broader axial ratio bandwidth. In the proposed single and 2${\times}$2 array microstrip antenna, the measured axial ratio bandwidths are 110 ㎒(4.6%) and 420 ㎒(17.5%), maximum gains are 8.2 ㏈i and 12.5 ㏈i, 3 dB gain bandwidths are above 400 ㎒(16.7%), and impedance bandwidths for the VSWR<1.5 are 240 ㎒(10%) and 500 ㎒(20.8%), respectively.

Dual Band Design of Aperture-Coupled Cavity-Fed Microstrip Antenna (이중 대역 개구면 결합 공진기 급전 마이크로스트립 안테나 설계)

  • A simple but accurate equivalent circuit of an aperture-coupled cavity-fed microstrip patch antenna is developed. It consists of ideal transformers, admittance elements, and transmission lines, and the related circuit element values are computed by applying the reciprocity theorem and complex power concept with the spectral-domain immittance approach. After validating by the published design example, a dual-band antenna was designed with the help of a hybrid optimization method. For this purpose, the Genetic Algorithm is applied with the Nelder-Mead simplex method. The obtained good results show that this approach turned out to be a very efficient tool for the design of aperture-coupled cavity-fed microstrip patch antenna having various structural design parameters.

Miniaturization of Aperture-Coupled RHCP Patch Antenna (개구면 결합 원형분극 패치 안테나의 소형화)

  • In this paper, the miniaturization of aperture-coupled RHCP patch antenna for the GPS system is treated. Circularly polarization characteristics is implemented by truncating diagonal corners of the square patch. Antenna size is reduced by inserting four uniform slits at the patch edges, which was equivalently lengthened the surface current by meandering it, This antenna uses aperture-coupled feeding structure with crossed-slot shape in order to give easy miniaturization of RHCP patch antenna. Simulated and measured results show that $42.7\%$ lower antenna size is obtained, and also $56\%$ lower -10dB bandwidth and $38.5\%$ lower 3dB AR bandwidth are obtained. when the proposed design scheme is applied to a commercial GPS antenna structure, $42.9\%$ lower patch size and $56\%$ lower 3dB AR bandwidth compared to commercial antenna at the same frequency are obtained.
