원위치 토양세척 공정의 효율향상을 위한 세제선정과 운전기법 (Selection of Surfactant and Operation Scheme for Improved Efficiency of In-situ Soil Flushing Process)

  • Several tests were conducted to optimize the design parameters of ln-situ soil flushing processes for diesel contaminated soil. According to the batch extraction test for three anionic surfactants evaluation, Calgonit limiting bubble occurrence was selected for its higher oil cleaning efficiency. After optimum surfactant selection, there were many sets of column flushing test. Over 70% of BTEX was removed in this surfactant dose with 400% of soil volume. In the case of no surfactant addition flushing in column, so called "blank flushing test", BTEX removal rate was 64%. But when we reused the effluent for the cleaning solution, the removal rate was decreased to 46.9%. This result showed reabsorption of oil occurred on the soil. With the addition of Calgonit solution to the diesel contaminated column, BTEX was removed up to 98.9% during the first flushing and 99.4% for the second recirculation flushing. In microcosm tests, diesel contaminated soils were cleaned by both surfactant flushing and biological activities. In anoxic condition, nitrate was used as an electron acceptor while the surfactant and the oil were used an electron donor. BTEX removal efficiency could be achieved up to 80% by biological degradation.

습지의 수환경과 영양물질에 미치는 침수식물의 영향 (Effects of Submerged Plants on Water Environment and Nutrient Reduction in a Wetland)

  • Submerged plants whose most of vegetative mass are below the water surface can have great effects on wetland biogeochemistry and water purification through their photosynthesis and nutrient uptake processes. In this study, change of dissolved oxygen concentration and pH as well as nutrient removal capacity of the submerged plant dominant wetland were investigated using wetland mesocosm experiments. Obvious periodic DO and pH fluctuation was observed due to photosynthetic activities of the submerged plants. It implies that the submerged plants can provide periodic or sequential changes of oxic and anoxic conditions that affect nitrification and denitrification processes and contribute permanent nitrogen removal in the wetland system. The pH changes in the wetland mesocosm suggested that submerged plant could also play an important role as a temporary $CO_2$ storage. Higher nutrient removal efficiency was observed in the submerged plant dominant wetland mesocosm. The removal efficiencies under experimental conditions were 38.89, 84.70, 91.21, 70.76, 75.30% of TN, DIN, $NH_4-N$, TP, $PO_4-P$ in the wetland mesocosm, while those were 26.11, 57.34, 63.87, 28.19, 55.15% in the control treatment, respectively.

수정 RABC 공정을 이용한 영양염류 제거능 제고에 관한 연구 (Nutrients removal enhancement using a modified rotating activated bacillus contactor (RABC) process)

  • This study was performed to develop a new process technology for advanced wastewater treatment using a modified Rotating Activated Bacillus Contactor (RABC) process that adopts anoxic-oxic suspended biomass tanks to enhance nutrients removal. A modified lab-scale RABC process was applied to examine its applicability and to obtain the design factors for the optimum operation of the system. The modified RABC process showed a little more stable and high nutrients removal efficiency than the prototype RABC process: about 70% of nitrogen and 55% of phosphorous removal when the low organic loading (influent COD 200mg/L). However, the processing efficiency of nutrients removal rates was enhanced to great extent when high organic loading: nitrogen 90% and phosphorous 85% (influent COD 500mg/L). High organic loading stimulated extremely good biomass attachment on the reticular carrier RABC stage and the excellent nutrients removal, nevertheless with almost no offensive odor.

  • From February 1984 through July 1991, 104 infants less than 1 year of age with congenital heart defects underwent open heart repair with conventional cardiopulmonary bypass which occupied 10.7% of all patients with congenital heart defects operated on during same period. There were 66 boys and 38 girls 7 days to 12 months [mean age, 8.2 months]. Four patients were neonates, 8 were 1 to 3 months, 23 were 4 to 6 months, and 69 were 7 to 12 months of age. Mean body weight at repair was 6.9kg and mean BSA, 0.36m2 Indications for operation were intractable congestive heart failure and severe pulmonary hypertension in patients with VSD and severe cyanosis and anoxic spells in patients with TOF. Conditions corrected were VSD[79], TOF[8], AVSD[4], PS[2], PA+IVS[2], TAPVC [2], MR[2], DOLV[l], Truncus arteriosus[1], D-TGA[1], and PA-VSD[1]. Twenty-three of 79 patients with VSD had associated cardiovascular anomalies which included PDA in 16 patients, PS in 9 patients, ASD in 5 patients, LSVC in 2 patients, MR in 1 patient, dextrocardia in 1 patient, and single coronary artery in 1 patient. The hospital mortality rate was 24.0% which was much higher than that of 6% in patients over 1 year of age. The greatest mortality occurred in babies of low weight under 6 months of age, There was no late death. Surviving infants showed marked symptomatic improvement and change in growth patterns. These surgical results were to be overcome with proper pre- and post-operative management and improvement of surgical technique

변형된 활성슬러지공법의 폐수처리에 관한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study on Wastewater Treatment by Modified Activated Sludge Process)

  • 본 연구는 활성슬러지공법을 변형시킨 무산소일염기일호기반응조를 사용해서 질산화일탈질소반응 및 인의 방출인초과축적반응을 유도하여 합성페수의 유기물, 질소 및 인을 동시에 제거하였다. 무질소조, 무염기 및 호기호 각각에 대한 반응특성을 조사하기 위해 실험실규모의 반응조가 운영되었으며 MLSS농도를 5000, 4200, 3300, 2600, 1900mg/l로, 변화시켜 COD제거율에 대한 생물학적 동력학계수를 결정하였다. 연구결과, 유기물 및 영양염이 변형된 슬러지공법에 의해 동시에 제거될 수 있음을 알았고, ortho-p 제거효율은 66%∼99%로 높게 나타났다.

Wind Effects on the Oyster Farm Environment in Gamak Bay

  • The effect of wind. stresses on the flow and water quality has been examined, particularly focused on the environment of oyster farms in Gamak Bay, by a two dimensional numerical model. In autumn (wind: $45.0^{\circ}$, 4.3 m/s), the overall flow turned out to be stronger than any other seasons and in addition, a pair of anticlockwise and clockwise vortices has been created at the northwest of the bay. Consequently, the wind in autumn seemed efficient not only for growing oyster but also for reducing the water pollution as the flow becomes much more active. In summer an anoxic condition appeared around the northwest of the bay where the flow is stagnant. According to a field survey, the majority of oyster farms tended to be densely distributed around the areas where DO concentration is high. Furthermore, oyster farms with a high production (over 1,300 kg per hanging string of 100 m) were distributed along with approximately 4 of Ch-a concentration. This suggests that oyster production is closely related to the concentration of DO or Ch-a.

탈질 세균의 분리 및 특성 (Isolation and Characterization of Denitrification Bacteria)

  • 질소함유 폐수를 생물학적으로 효과적으로 처리하기 위한 전 단계로서 탈질 균을 분리하여 최종 선정된 균주의 분해특성을 조사한 결과 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 분리된 5개 균주 가운데 DWS3가 세포성장과 질산성질소 제거율이 가장 우수하여 최종 분리 균주로 선정하였다. DWS3를 동정한 결과 Pseudomonas DWS로 명명하였다. 반 유동성 사면배지에 배양한 결과 녹색을 띠었으나, 탈질능을 갖는 균주의 활성에 따라 배지의 색이 녹색에서 암녹색으로 변환되었다. Pseudomonas DWS는 4시간 정도의 유도기를 거쳐 18시간에 최대 증식을 나타내었으며, 균의 생육속도와 비례하여 질산성질소의 제거율이 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. Pseudomonas DWS의 온도별 특성은 3$0^{\circ}C$에서 성장과 탈질율이 99% 우수하게 나타났으나, 탈질균 성장에 적합한 초기 pH는 7∼8에서 질산성 질소가 99% 이상 거의 모두 제거되었다. Pseudomonas DWS는 질산성 질소 농도에 관계없이 9시간 이내에 배지의 질산성 질소가 약 50%가 제거되었으며, 18시간 경과 후 99% 이상 질산성 질소가 제거되었다. 따라서 Pseudomonas DWS는 질소화합물을 다량 포함된 하, 폐수의 생물학적 처리에 효과적으로 이용 될 수 있는 것으로 사료된다.

홀스타인 독우(犢牛)에 발생(發生)한 질산염중독(窒酸鹽中毒) (Nitrate Poisoning Occurred in Holstein Calves)

  • Nitrate poisoning was observed in Holstein calves raising for beef purpose in a dairy-farm of Gyeongbug province. The results observed were summarized as follows: 1. These calves had been fed mainly cornstalk, and a qualitative reaction by "dephenylamine blue test" for nitrate was positive in the serum of the affected calves and in the cornstalk provided. 2. In the clinical signs, the affected calves were suddenly recumbent without premonition and then dyspnea, followed by death. Death also occurred after inappetence, depression, dyspnea, cyanosis of mucous membrane, and terminal anoxic convulsions were observed. 3. In the macroscopical findings, the blood was dark brown (chocolate in color) and more or less poor coagulative. Petechiae of epicardium, severe cloudy swelling of liver, cloudy swelling and hemorrhage of kidney, congestion and hemorrhage of spleen, congestion and edema of lung, and congestion af abomasum and small intestine were observed in these cases. 4. Microscopical changes observed in these cases were peripheral congestion of lobules, centrilobular necrosis and sinusoidal dilatation in liver, hydropic degeneration of hepatic cells, hemorrhage and edema of kidney, necrosis of convoluted-tubular epithelium, and dilatation of Bowman's space and convoluted tubule. There were also congestion and hemorrhage of spleen, hemorrhage and edema of lung, cloudy swelling of myocardium, and congestion and hemorrhage of various organs.

폐굴껍질 담체를 이용한 마을하수고도처리공정의 성능평가 (Performance of Advanced Sewage Treatment Process with Waste Oyster Shell Media in Rural Area)

  • This study was carried out to evaluate the performance of Modified Ludzsck Etinger (MLE) process with waste oyster shell media in aerobic tank. Influent flow was 36 L/d and the order of reactor was anoxic, aerobic and sedimentation tank and unit hydraulic retention time was 2 hr, 6 hr and 4 hr, respectively. Sludge recycling rate in sedimentation tank and internal recycling rate were 100%. Media fill rate in aerobic tank was 5%, 10% and 17% and fluid MLSS concentration in aerobic tank was 3000~4000 mg/L. Average TCOD removal rate was 91~93%, TBOD 92~96%, SS 95~96% and when media fill rate was 10% or more, in organic compound removal it could satisfy with wastewater discharge standard. Average total nitrogen removal rate was 70~76% and average total phosphorous removal rate was 58~65%. With media fill rate increasing, total phosphorous average removal rate also increased. For it was that released calcium ion from waste oyster shell reacted with soluble phosphorous. From these experiment results, the MLE process using waste oyster shell as media is a practical method for advanced sewage treatment in rural area.

Sorption of I and Se onto Green Rusts with Different Interlayer Anions, GR(CO32-) AND GR(Cl-)

  • Natural green rust (GR) can retard the migration of anions through geological media because it has a Layer Double Hydroxyl (LDH) structure with a positive charge. In this study, the sorption behaviors of anions such as selenite ($Se(IV)O{_3}^{2-}$), selenate ($Se(VI)O{_4}^{2-}$), and iodide ($I^-$) onto green rusts with different structures, i.e., GR($Cl^-$) and GR($CO{_3}^{2-}$), were investigated by conducting batch sorption experiments in an anoxic condition. Experimental results showed that selenite was mostly sorbed onto GR($CO{_3}^{2-}$) and then partly reduced to metal selenium, Se(0). However, little selenate and iodide was sorbed onto GR($CO{_3}^{2-}$) while some iodide was sorbed onto GR($Cl^-$). It is presumed from the experimental results that the major sorption mechanism of $SeO{_3}^{2-}$ and $I^-$ onto green rusts is the anion exchange reaction with the anions existing in the interlayer of the rusts. Green rust, therefore, can play an important role in the retardation of anions migrating through deep geological environments owing to its LDH structure with a high anion exchange capacity.
