We demonstrate that ruthenium oxide ($RuO_2$) nanotubes with controlled dimensions can be synthesized using facile electrochemical means and anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) templates. $RuO_2$ nanotubes were formed using a cyclic voltammetric deposition technique and an aqueous plating solution composed of $RuCl_3$. Linear sweep voltammetry (LSV) was used to determine the effective electrochemical oxidation potential of $Ru^{3+}$ to $RuO_2$. The length and wall thickness of $RuO_2$ nanotubes can be adjusted by varying the range and cycles of the electrochemical cyclic voltammetric potentials. Thick-walled $RuO_2$ nanotubes were obtained using a wide electrochemical potential range (-0.2~1 V). In contrast, an electrochemical deposition potential range from 0.8 to 1 V produced thin-walled and longer $RuO_2$ nanotubes in an identical number of cycles. The dependence of wall thickness and length of $RuO_2$ nanotubes on the range of cyclic voltammetric electrochemical potentials was attributed to the distinct ionic diffusion times. This significantly improves the ratio of surface area to mass of materials synthesized using AAO templates. Furthermore, this study is directive to the controlled synthesis of other metal oxide nanotubes using a similar strategy.
Inhibitive effects of chromate, phosphate, sulfate, and borate on chloride pitting corrosion of Al have been investigated using cyclic voltammetry. During the anodic oxide growth, the critical concentration of chloride for pit initiation decreased in the order: chromate > phosphate > sulfate > borate, and the maximum pitting current density increases in the reverse order: chromate < phosphate < sulfate < borate. The decreasing pitting current density was observed in the successive polarization cycles, which was attributed to the aging of Al oxides and field relaxation at oxide/solution interface.

A new method for measurement of the pore size in a nanohoneycomb structure using atomic force microscopy (AFM) was proposed. Porous type anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) was fabricated as a nanohoneycomb structure to measure the pore size. For measuring pore sizes from AFM images, a criterion was set in porous type AAO. The pore sizes from AFM images were compared with those from SEM images, and the results showed good agreement. The relationship between the pore size and widening time was found to be linear in the range of this study. It was understood as the synchronized effects of the impurity gradient in outer oxide of AAO, mechanical packing and mass transfer increase.

We fabricated photonic crystals on GaAs and GaN substrates. After anodizing the aluminium thin film in electrochemical embient, the porous alumina was implemented to the mask for reactive ion beam etching process of GaAs wafer. And photonic crystals in GaN wafer were also fabricated using electron beam nano-lithography process. The coated PMMA thin film with 200 nm-thickness on GaN surface was patterned with triangular lattice and etched out the GaN surface by the inductively coupled plasma source. The fabricated GaAs and GaN photonic crystals provide the enhanced intensities of light emission for the wavelengths of 858 and 450 nm, respectively. We will present the detailed dimensions of photonic crystals from SEM and AFM measurements.

A lot of various researches have been going on to use heat spreader for LED module. Nano porous aluminum anodic oxide (AAO) applied LED, which is produced from anodization, is easy and economically advantageous. Convensional LED module is consist of aluminum/adhesive/copper circuit. The polymer adhesive in this module is used as heat spreader. However the thermal emission of LED component is degraded because of low heat conductivity of polymer and also reliability of LED component is reduced. Therefore, AAO in this work was applied to heat spreader of LED module which has higher heat conductivity compare to polymer. Bonding strength between AAO and copper circuit was improved with Ti/Cu seed layer by copper sputtering process (DBC) before the bonding. And this copper circuit has been fabricated by electro plating method. Peel strength of AAO and copper circuit in this work showed range between 1.18~1.45 kgf/cm with anodizing process which is very suitable for high power LED application.

Typical solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) have limited applications because they operate at high temperature due to low ionic conductivity of electrolyte. Thin film solid oxide fuel cell with yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ) electrolyte is developed to decrease operating temperature. Pt/YSZ/Pt thin film SOFC was fabricated on anodic aluminum oxide (AAO). The crystalline structure of YSZ electrolyte by sputter is heavily depends on the roughness of porous Pt layer, which results in pinholes. To deposit YSZ electrolyte without pinholes and electrical shortage, it is necessary to deposit smoother and denser layer between Pt anode layer and YSZ layer by sputter. Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) technique is used to deposit pre-YSZ layer, and it improved electrolyte quality. 300nm thick Bi-layered YSZ electrolyte was successfully deposited without electrical shortage.

The success of an implant is determined by its integration into the tissue surrounding the biomaterial. Surface roughness is considered to influence the behavior of adherent cells. The aim of this in vitro study was to determine the effect of surface roughness on Saos-2 osteoblast-like cells. Titanium disks, blasted with $75{\mu}m$ aluminum oxide particles and anodic oxidized and machined titanium disks were prepared. Saos-2 were plated on the disks at a density of 50,000 cells per well in 48-well dishes. After 1 hour, 1 day, 6 days cell numbers were counted. One day, 6 days after plating, alkaline phosphatase(ALPase) activity was determined. Compared to experimental groups, the number of cells was significantly higher on control group. The stimulatory effect of surface roughness on ALPase was more pronounced on the experimental groups than on control group. These results demonstrate that surface roughness alters proliferation and differentiation of osteoblasts. The results also suggest that implant surface roughness may play a role in determining phenotypic expression of cells.
Array of magnetic Ni nanostructures has been fabricated on Si substrate by using nanoporous alumina film as a mask during deposition. The nanostructures are truncated cone-shape and the lateral sizes are comparable to height. While the continuous film shows well-defined in-plane magnetization, the nanostructure shows perpendicular component of magnetization at remanence. The hysterectic behavior of nanostructures is dominated by the demagnetizing field instead of interaction among them.
Climate change has worsened droughts and floods, and created conditions more likely to lead to pathogen contamination of surface water and groundwater. Thus, there is a growing need to disinfect livestock water. Ultraviolet (UV) irradiation is widely accepted as an appropriate method for disinfecting livestock water, as it does not produce hazardous chemical compounds and kills pathogens. However, UV-based disinfection inevitably consumes electricity, so it is necessary to improve UV disinfection effectiveness. Aluminum-based reflective nanolens arrays that enhanced the effectiveness of a continuous-flow UV water disinfection system were developed using electrochemical and chemical processes, including electropolishing and two-step anodization. A continuous UV disinfection system was custom designed and the parts were produced using a three-dimensional printer. Electropolished aluminum was anodized at 40 and 80 V in 0.3 M oxalic acid, at 120 and 160 V in 1.0 M phosphoric acid, and at 200 and 240 V in 1.5 M citric acid. The average nanolens diameters (D) of the aluminum-based reflective nanolens arrays prepared using 40, 80, 120, 160, 200, and 240 V anodization were 95.44, 160.98, 226.64, 309.90, 296.32, and 339.68 nm, respectively. Simple UV reflection behind irradiated water disinfected Escherichia coli O157:H7 in water more than did the non-reflective control. UV reflection and focusing behind irradiated water using an aluminum-based reflective nanolens array disinfected E. coli O157:H7 more than did simple UV reflection. Such enhancement of the UV disinfection effectiveness was significantly effective when a nanolens array with D 226.64 nm, close to the wavelength of the irradiated UV (254 nm), was used.

In this study, the application of biosensor having a large surface area for more effective and AAO (anomic aluminium oxide) template in order to gain concentration and voltage of anodizing process morphology changes to the control of experiments were conducted. The biosensor surface may increase the response characteristics by having a large surface area. So the entrance to a little more efficient wide depth sensing experiment was carried out to obtain a structure body with a branch shape with a large surface area with increasing. Experimental results from the FE-SEM observation was obtained template morphology. As a result, depending on the anodizing time, the depth of the layer of aluminum oxide was found that it was confirmed that the deepening of the pore size changes according to anodizing condition. And measuring the detection performance according to the conditions in the electrolyte and the reaction because of blood using a biosensor measuring sensing property according to the depth of the pore depth is considered that does not have a significant impact.
