The streaming rays(SR) method is improved and extended to multigroup, anisotropic scattering, and three-dimensional angular space(x-y-z(infinite))problems. This method is applied to the shielding problems in which the ray effect occurs seriously. For verification, the results of MORSE-CG code are used as reference solution and the results of TWODANT code are compared. The results show that solutions of the SR method are much better than those of the TWODANT code and are in good agreement with those of the MORSE-CG code. Also, to reduce computing time, two acceleration algorithms are implemented in the SR method : the standard coarse-mesh rebalance and a new angular two-grid acceleration.
The variational nodal method for solving the neutron transport equation has evolved over 40 years. Based on a functional form of the Boltzmann neutron transport equation, the method now comprises a complete set of variants that can be employed for different problems. This paper presents an extensive review of the development of the variational nodal method. The emphasis is on summarizing the whole theoretical system rather than validating the methodologies. The paper covers the variational nodal formulation of the Boltzmann neutron transport equation, the Ritz procedure for various application purposes, the derivation of boundary conditions, the extension for adjoint and perturbation calculations, and treatments for anisotropic scattering sources. Acceleration approaches for constructing response matrices and solving the resulting system of algebraic equations are also presented.
Luminous efficiency and uniformity in a LCD-BLU are mainly determined by fine scattering patterns formed on the light guide panel. We propose a novel fabrication method of 3-dimensional scattered patterns based on anisotropic etching of silicon wafers. Micro-pyramid patterns with 70.5 degree apex-angle and micro-prism patterns with 109.4 degree apex-angle can be self-constructed by the wet, anisotropic etching of (100) and (110) silicon wafers, respectively, and those patterns are easily duplicated by the PDMS replica process. Experimental results on spatial and angular distributions of irradiation from the light guide panel with the micro-pyramid patterns were very consistent with the calculation results. Surface roughness of the silicon-based micro-patterns is free from any artificial defects since the micro-patterns are inherently formed with silicon crystal surfaces. Therefore, we expect that the silicon based micro-patterning process makes it possible to fabricate perfect 3-dimensional micro-structures with crystal surface and apex angles, which may guarantee mass-reproduction of the light guide panels in LCD-BLU.

The single layered magnetic thin films with anisotropic magnetoresistance behavior have advantage on micro integration due to their low cost in manufacturing. Although the conventional MCo (M=Cu, Ag) amorphous ribbons using a rapid solidification process have showed appropriate for magnetic property for bulk devices, they are not appropriate for micro-scale devices due to their brittleness. We prepared the thermal evaporated 100 nm-thick $Cu_{1-x}Co_x\;and\;Ag_{1-x}Co_x(x=0.1{\sim}0.7)$ films on silicon wafers and investigated the magnetic property of the as-depo films such as magnetization and magnetoresistance ratio. We confirmed that the maximum MR ratio of 1.4 and 2.6% at the external field of 0.5 Tesla in $CuCo_{30},\;AgCo_{40}$ films, respectively. Our result implies that AMR may be slightly less than those of the conventional CuCo and AgCo ribbons due to surface scattering, but their AMR ratio be enough for micro-scale application with easy integration compatibility for the process without surface oxidation.

Ultrasonic inspection of heavy walled cast austenitic stainless steel(CASS)welds is very difficult due to complex and coarse grained structure of CASS material. The large size of anisotropic grain strongly affects the propagation of ultrasound by severe attenuation, change in velocity, and scattering of ultrasonic energy. therefore, the signal patterns originated from flaws can be difficult to distinguish from scattered signals. To improve detection and sizing capability of ID connected defect for heavy walled CASS piping welds, the low frequency segmented TRL Pulse Echo and Phased Array probe has been developed. The experimental studies have been performed using CASS pipe mock-up block containing artificial reflectors(ID connected EDM notch). The automatic pulse echo and phase array technique is applied the detection and the length sizing of the ID connected artificial reflectors and the results for detection and sizing has been compared respectively. The goal of this study is to assess a newly developed ultrasonic probe to improve the detection ability and the sizing of the crack in coarse-grained CASS components.
We have developed an self-consistent PDR model to synthesize warm CO lines of Herschel/PACS observations more accurately. The PDR model solves the FUV continuum radiative transfer, gas energetics, and chemistry simultaneously. A local FUV radiation flux is calculated by using a Monte Carlo method taking anisotropic scattering into account. A new (r, ${\delta}$) coordinate system was used, where the r is the distance from the origin and the ${\delta}$ is z/$R^2$ in the cylindrical coordinate of (R,z). This is an adequate coordinate system to represent a power-law density of an envelope and a high spatial resolution near the outflow wall. The gas enegetics and chemistry are solved locally and considered $10^4K$ blackbody radiation field instead of the interstellar radiation filed. This newly developed model can be used to analyze quantitatively the effect of UV-heated outflow walls on the warm molecular lines in the embedded proto-stellar objects.

An accurate cross sections set is necessary for the quantitatively understanding and modeling of plasma phenomena. By using the electron swarm method, we determine an accurate electron cross sections set for objective atoms or molecule at low electron energy range. It is general calculation that used in this method to an two-term approximation of Boltzmann equation. But it may give erroneous transport coefficients for CF$_4$ molecule treated in this paper having \`C2v symmetry\`, therefore, multi-term approximation of the Boltzmann equation analysis which can consider anisotropic scattering exactly is carried out. It is necessary to require understanding of the fundamental principle of analysis method. Therefore, in this paper, we compared the electron transport coefficients(W and ND$\_$L/) in pure Ar, O$_2$, and CF$_4$ gas calculated by using two-term approximation of the Boltzmann equation analysis code uses the algorithm proposed by Tagashira et al. with those by multi-term approximation by Rubson and Ness which was developed at James-Cook university, and discussed an application and/or validity of the calculation method by comparing these calculated results.

It is now widely accepted that the resulting displacement field within elastic, inhomogeneous, anisotropic solids subjected to equipartitioned, uniform illumination from uncorrelated sources, has intensities that follow diffusion-like equations. Typically, coda waves are invoked to illustrate this concept. These waves arrive later as a consequence of multiple scattering and appear at "the tail" (coda, in Latin) of seismograms and are usually considered an example of diffuse field. It has been demonstrated that the average correlations of motions within a diffuse field, in frequency domain, is proportional to the imaginary part of Green's function tensor. If only one station is available, the average autocorrelation is equal to the average squared amplitudes or the average power spectrum and this gives the Green's function at the source itself. Several works address this point from theoretical and experimental point of view. However, a complete and explicit analytical description is lacking. In this work we study analytically some properties of the Green's function, specifically the imaginary part of Green's function for 2D antiplane problems. This choice is guided by the fact that these scalar problems have a closed analytical solution (Kausel 2006). We assume the diffusiveness of the field and explore its analytical consequences.
SnSe single crystal showed a high thermoelectric zT of 2.6 at 923 K mainly due to an extremely low thermal conductivity $0.23W\;m^{-1}\;K^{-1}$. It has anisotropic crystal structure resulting in deterioration of thermoelectric performance in polycrystalline SnSe, providing a low zT of 0.6 and 0.8 for Ag and Na-doped SnSe, respectively. Here, we presented the thermoelectric properties on the K-doped $K_xSn_{1-x}Se$ (x = 0, 0.1, 0.3, 0.5, 1.5, and 2.0%) polycrystals, synthesized by a high-temperature melting and hot-press sintering with annealing process. The K-doping in SnSe efficiently enhances the hole carrier concentration without significant degradation of carrier mobility. We find that there exist widespread Se-rich precipitates, inducing strong phonon scattering and thus resulting in a very low thermal conductivity. Due to low thermal conductivity and moderate power factor, the $K_{0.001}Sn_{0.999}Se$ sample shows an exceptionally high zT of 1.11 at 823 K which is significantly enhanced value in polycrystalline compounds.
A computational program [TDET] of the particle transport equation is developed on radiation shielding problem in two-dimensional cartesian geometry based on the discrete element method. Not like the ordinary discrete ordinates method, the quadrature set of angles is not fixed but steered by the spatially dependent angular fluxes. The angular dependence of the scattering source term in the particle transport equation is described by series expansion in spherical harmonics, and the energy dependence of the particles is considered as well. Three different benchmark tests are made for verification of TDET : For the ray effect analysis on a square absorber with a flat isotropic source, the results of TDET calculation are quite well conformed to those of MORSE-CG calculation while TDET ameliorates the ray effect more effectively than S$_{N}$ calculation. In the analysis of the streaming leakage through a narrow vacuum duct in a shield, TDET shows conspicuous and remarkable results of streaming leakage through the duct as well as MORSE-CG does, and quite better than S$_{N}$ calculation. In a realistic reactor shielding situation which treats in two cases of the isotropic scattering and of linearly anisotropic scattering with two groups of energy, TDET calculations show local ray effect between neighboring meshes compared with S$_{N}$ calculations in which the ray effect extends broadly over several meshes.eshes.
