This paper presents the thermal characteristic analysis of a high-speed horizontal machining center with spindle speed of 50,000rpm and feedrate of 120m/fin. The spindle system is designed based on the built-in motor, angular contact ceramic ball bearings, oil-air lubrication and oil-jacket cooling method. The X-axis and Y-axis feeding systems are composed of the linear motors and linear motion guides, and the Z-axis feeding system is composed of the servo-motor, ball screw and linear motion guides. The thermal characteristics such as the temperature distribution, temperature rise, thermal deformation and step response, are estimated based on the finite element model of machining center and the heat generation rates of heat sources related to the machine operation conditions. Especially, the thermal time constant assessed from the step response function is introduced as an index of thermal response characteristics.
The behavior of tyrosine(Tyr.) residue of Bombyx mori silk fiber from yellow fluorescent cocoon has been examined for the dependence of pH in aqueous silk solution under the presence of orange II salt. Through the peak separation of angular dependence of spectral pattern of 15N-Tyr. and [1-13C]-Tyr. between the fiber axis and the molecular bond direction, N-H bond in fiber as well as the orientation distribution around the fiber axis were analyzed. Also, and sericin component was obtained from these angular dependence of oriented spectral pattern. The pH dependence of the 13C NMR chemical shift of B. mori silk fibroin was examined in aqueous solution in the presince of orange II are broad at pH$\geq$7.0. However, these become sharper at pH$\geq$8.0 and remain sharp at higher pH. In these higher pH range, a chemical shift change occurs due to the deprotonation of the Tyr. side group of fibroin. At higher pH. such a hydrophobic cluster is destroyed because of the electrostatic interaction according to the deprotonation of the Tyr-OH group.

In autobody assembly, thin-wall, tubular connections have been used for the frame structure. Recent interest in light materials, such as aluminum or magnesium alloys, has been rapidly growing for weight reduction and fuel efficiency. Due to higher thermal expansion coefficient, low stiffness/strength, and low softening temperature of aluminum and magnesium alloys, control of welding-induced distortion in these connections becomes a critical issue. In this study, the material sensitivity to welding distortion was investigated using a T-tubular connection of three types materials; low carbon steel (A500 Gr. A), aluminum alloy (5456-H116) and magnesium alloy (AZ91C-T6). An uncoupled thermal and mechanical finite element analysis scheme using the ABAQUS software program was developed to model and simulate the welding process, welding procedure and material behaviors. The predicted angular distortions were correlated to the cumulative plastic strains. A unique relationship between distortion and plastic strains exists for all three materials studied. The amount of distortion is proportional to the magnitude and distribution of the cumulative plastic strains in the weldment. The magnesium alloy has the highest distortion sensitivity, followed by the other two materials with the steel connection having the least distortion. Results from studies of thin-aluminum plates show that welding distortion can be minimized by reducing the cumulative plastic strains by preventing heat diffusion into the base metal using a strong heat sink placed directly beneath the weld. A rapid cooling method is recommended to reduce welding distortion of magnesium tubular connections.

Quasiclassical trajectory (QCT) calculations of Ne + ${H_2}^+$ reaction have been carried out on the adiabatic potential energy surface of the ground state $1^2$ A'. The reaction probability of the title reaction for J = 0 has been calculated, and the QCT result is consistent with the previous quantum mechanical wave packet result. Quasiclassical trajectory calculations of the four polarization-dependent differential cross sections have been carried out in the center of mass (CM) frame. The P(${\theta}_r$), P(${\phi}_r$) and P(${\theta}_r$, ${\phi}_r$) distributions, the k-k'-j' correlation and the angular distribution of product rotational vectors are presented in the form of polar plots. Due to the well in $1^2$ A' PES, the reagent vibrational excitation has greater influence on the polarization of the product rotational angular momentum vectors j' than the collision energy.
Turbulent characteristics of turbulent pulsating flows were studied experimentally in a square duct. Velocity waveforms, velocity profiles, and turbulent intensity of turbulent pulsating flow were investigated by using a hot-wire anemometer with data acquisition and a processing system in a square duct with a ratio of 1 ($40mm{\times}40mm$) to 4,000mm long. Turbulent components were shown to be larger in decelerating than in accelerating regions and also larger for a large phase of velocity and U'rms distribution of turbulent flow. The effect of velocity amplitude ratio does not exist for specified time [${\theta}(z^{\prime})$], amplitude ratio (${\mid}U^{\prime}_{rms.os.1}{\mid}/{\mid}U_{m.os.1}{\mid}$), and phase difference (${\Delta}U^{\prime}_{rms.os.1}-{\Delta}U_{m.os.1}$) in either turbulent oscillating or cross-sectional mean velocity components. The effect of dimensionless angular frequency for specified time [${\theta}(z^{\prime})$] can be disregarded because the dimensionless angular frequency does not affect the specified time. The velocity distributions of turbulent pulsating flows for various time-averaged Reynolds numbers are in approximate agreement with the velocity distributions for equivalent Reynolds numbers and 1/7th power law of steady flow.
Clutch energy is the thermal energy dissipated on the clutch disc, and it reaches its highest level during drive-off as a result of the difference between the angular speeds of the flywheel and clutch disc, and the torque transmitted. The thermal energy dissipated effects the clutch life. This study presents a new drive-off and thermal model to calculate the clutch energy for a rear wheel driven heavy-duty vehicle and to analyze the effects of clutch energy on temperatures of clutch pressure plate, flywheel and clutch housing. Three different driver profiles are used, based on the release of the clutch pedal in modulation zone: i) the pedal travels with the same speed all the way, ii) the travel speed of the pedal increases, iii) the travel speed of the pedal decreases. Vehicle test is performed to check the accuracy of the model. When compared to a simpler model that is widely used in the literature to calculate the clutch energy, the model used in this study calculates the clutch energy and angular speed behaviors of flywheel and transmission input shaft in better agreement with experimental results. Clutch wear and total clutch life are also estimated using the mean specific friction power.
Behavior of aluminum alloy embedding a particle was investigated at room temperature under ECAP. Finite element analysis by using ABAQUS shows that ECAP is a useful tool for eliminating residual porosity in the specimen, and much more effective under friction condition. The simulation, however, shows considerably low density distributions for matrix near a particle at which rich defects may occur during severe deformation. Finite element results of effective strains and deformed shapes for matrix with a particle were compared with theoretical calculations under simple shear stress. Also, based on the distribution of the maximum principal stress in the specimen, Weibull fracture probability was obtained for particle sizes and particle-coating layer materials. The probability was useful to predict the trend of more susceptible failure of a brittle coating layer than a particle without an interphase in metal matrix composites.
For many applications of $ReBa_2Cu_3O_{7-x}$ (ReBCO) tapes it is needed to know the anisotropic properties of the used conductor in a broad range of magnetic field. In this paper we present the results of transport measurements on the SuNAM tape (GdBaCuO) with the rotation of the sample in magnetic fields up to 5 T in liquid nitrogen. The critical current over the magnetic field orientation ($I_c({\theta})$) curves demonstrate the appearance of distinct second peak around c-axis in low fields. This peak almost vanishes in the fields over 3 T. The evolution of the ab-peak form is also presented: the peak consistently reduces its height with the magnetic field going up and in the high fields the shoulders rise, changing the type of the distribution. To describe experimental curves the vortex path model was applied to the angular distributions of the critical current in magnetic field. Good agreements of the experimental data with the analytical expressions were obtained that confirm the vortex path model approach.
