중국 고대 무용사 기술에 있어서의 몇 가지 문제점 (On some Problems in describing of the History of Ancient Chinese Dance)

  • 오랜 역사를 지닌 중국의 무용은 정치, 사회, 문화 환경의 변화에 따라 형식, 내용, 기능, 위상에도 많은 변화가 있었다. 따라서 중국의 전통 무용을 이해하려면 그 변천의 과정을 통시적으로 살펴보아야 한다. 또한 동아시아 전통 무용의 교류와 발전의 궤적을 이해하기 위해서도 중국의 전통 무용에 대한 통시적인 이해가 필요하다. 이를 위한 가장 편리한 방법은 중국 무용 통사를 개관하는 것이다. 지금까지 출간된 20종에 달하는 중국 무용사는 모두 중국의 학자들이 저술한 것이다. 중국학자들이 저술한 중국 무용 통사의 초기 무용사 기술에는 몇 가지 문제점이 발견된다. 첫째, 중국 고서(古書)의 무용 관련 기록을 사료(史料)로 수용함으로써 역사 기술의 객관성과 합리성을 훼손하고 있다. 따라서 신화와 전설의 기록과 역사의 기록을 구별하여, 적확하게 기술하여야 할 필요성이 지적된다. 둘째, 무용사 연구의 보조 자료로 이용되는 도기(陶器)의 문양이나 벽화(壁畵) 등 고고자료가 실증적 자료임에는 틀림없으나, 일부는 자료의 해석이나 시기의 특정(特定)에 있어서 논란의 소지를 안고 있다. 따라서 자료의 해석이나 시기 산정 등에 대한 문제가 먼저 해결되어야만, 완전한 실증 자료로 활용할 수 있다. 셋째, 무용의 기원과 기능에 대하여 현대 중국학자들의 정치적 관점 내지 민족주의적 태도가 자못 반영된다는 점이다. 즉, '노동'을 무용의 기원으로 선언하는 편협한 시각은 예술의 기원에 대한 균형감 있는 시각이라고 보기 어려우며, 보다 객관적이고 합리적인 시각이 요구된다.

  • In ancient East Asia surgical methods existed even before the modern surgical methods were introduced. These surgical methods were mainly used to treat tumor, bruises, and dermatosis. The methods include many techniques such as making incisions in the skin, tell when to operate, and the aftercare following an operation. The traditional ways are not practiced any more due to its being replaced by the anesthesia techniques originating from the West, but the ancient methods can still be found in documents and these methods can be reproduced through such documents. There is a possibility that this ancient method could replace the present day method because of its nature-friendly characteristic as well as its post-operation management.

상서(湘西) 토가족(土家族) 마고사(毛古斯) 무용 원시숭배(原始崇拜)의 해석 (Interpretation of Primitive Worship of Maogusi Dance of Xiangxi Tujia Nationality)

  • 토가족(土家族) 모고사(毛古斯) 춤은 상서(湘西) 토가족의 오래된 하나의 의식무(儀式舞)이다. 이는 인물, 대화, 단순한 스토리와 일정한 연출의 격식을 갖춘 일종의 원시적 춤이다. 또한 이는 중국 무용계와 연극계 전문가들로부터 중국 무용, 연극의 가장 원초적이고 살아있는 화석으로 인정받고 있다. 본 고는 철학, 종교학, 인류학 및 민속학 등 다각도에서 모고사(毛古斯) 춤의 원시 숭배 표상 뒤에 담긴 상고 시대에 남긴 여러 가지 정신 기호와 문화적 함의에 대해 해독하도록 하고자 한다. 이 여러 가지 정신 기호는 즉 자연 숭배, 토템 숭배, 조상 숭배와 생식 숭배이다. 그 강렬한 원시 숭배의식은 모구스춤의 공연과정의 시종에 내포되어 있으며, 그 행위와 정신 이념은 결코 미신과 봉건적인 행위가 아니라, 토가족의 풍부한 역사문화, 풍속과 정신내용을 진실하게 반영하고 있다. 이러한 원시적 생태의식이 살아서 번성해온 진정한 원인을 탐구하고 모고사(毛古斯) 춤에 덮인 베일을 벗기려 함으로써 우리에게는 이 두터운 역사를 담아낸 예술 형식의 깊은 내면을 더 잘 이해할 수 있도록 도와준다.

지총(知聰)의 실존(實存)과 고대 한국 의학 교류(古代 韓國 醫學 交流)에 대한 역할(役割) (The Existence and Role of Ji-chong for Medical Exchange in Ancient Korea)

  • Objectives : Considering the indigenousness of Korean medicine, the historical record was first introduced in 1946 as follows; a Chinese person, Ji-chong (知聰), brought 164 volumes of medical books to Japan via Goguryeo (高句麗) in A.D. 562. Since this event happened, Korean Oriental Medicine has been derived from Traditional Chinese Medicine because ancient Korean Medicine originated and was developed in China. The purpose of this study was to investigate the existence and role of Ji-chong in the history of medical exchanges between ancient Korea and Japan. Methods : We studied Ji-chong through ancient and modern historical literatures such as Nihon Shoki (日本書紀), the record of $Shinsen-sh{\bar{o}}jiroku$ (新撰姓氏錄), Korean Medical History (韓國醫學史), Japanese Medical History (日本醫學史), Samguk Sagi (三國史記), etc. Results : We found indications of the existence of Ji-chong and the import of Chinese medical literature to the ancient Korean peninsula by examining domestic and foreign historical literature. Especially, he was closely related to historical assumptions about the Japanese conquest of Goguryeo in A.D. 562, although without objective historical evidence and described only in modern Japanese historical records and Korean Medical History. However, substantial medical exchange toward Japan was accomplished by Korean medicine of either Goguryeo, Baekje (百濟), or Silla (新羅) dynasty until the late A.D. 6 century.   • There have been many cultural and economic exchanges between Korea and China from ancient times because of geographical neighborhoods. Also, we can see easily Chinese fashion among Korean and Korean fashion among Chinese because of more frequent contacts between two countries after China joined World Trade Organization in 2001.

SEL-RefineMask: A Seal Segmentation and Recognition Neural Network with SEL-FPN

  • Digging historical and cultural information from seals in ancient books is of great significance. However, ancient Chinese seal samples are scarce and carving methods are diverse, and traditional digital image processing methods based on greyscale have difficulty achieving superior segmentation and recognition performance. Recently, some deep learning algorithms have been proposed to address this problem; however, current neural networks are difficult to train owing to the lack of datasets. To solve the afore-mentioned problems, we proposed an SEL-RefineMask which combines selector of feature pyramid network (SEL-FPN) with RefineMask to segment and recognize seals. We designed an SEL-FPN to intelligently select a specific layer which represents different scales in the FPN and reduces the number of anchor frames. We performed experiments on some instance segmentation networks as the baseline method, and the top-1 segmentation result of 64.93% is 5.73% higher than that of humans. The top-1 result of the SEL-RefineMask network reached 67.96% which surpassed the baseline results. After segmentation, a vision transformer was used to recognize the segmentation output, and the accuracy reached 91%. Furthermore, a dataset of seals in ancient Chinese books (SACB) for segmentation and small seal font (SSF) for recognition were established which are publicly available on the website.

Needham's grand question: its accurate answer and the mathematical principles of Chinese natural philosophy and medicine

  • The so-called "Needham's Grand Question" (NGQ) can be formulated as why modern science was developed in Europe despite the earlier successes of science and technology in ancient China. Numerous answers have been proposed. In this review, it will be pointed out that traditional Chinese natural philosophy (TCNP) and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) are in fact dealing with problems of highly complex dynamical systems of Nature and human beings. Due to the lack of mathematical machinery in dealing with such complex phenomena, a holistic approach was taken by ancient Chinese instead. It was very successful for the first eighteen centuries. In the recent three centuries, however, the reductionist and mechanistic viewpoints of Western natural philosophy, sciences, and medicine have been prevalent all over the world up to now. The main obstacle in preventing the advancement of TCM, TCNP and its sciences is actually the lacking of proper mathematical tools in dealing with complex dynamical systems. Fortunately, the tools are now available and a "chaotic wave theory of fractal continuum" has been proposed recently. To give the theory an operational meaning, three basic laws of TCNP are outlined. These three laws of wave/field interactions contrast readily with those of Newton's particle collisions. Via the proposed three laws, TCM, TCNP and its sciences can be unified under the same principles. Finally, an answer to NGQ can be accurately given. It is hoped that this review will help promoting a genuine understanding of natural philosophy, sciences, and medicine in an ecumenical way.

Insight Into the Crystallinity of Chinese Ancient Silk by Synchrotron Radiation-Based and Conventional X-ray Diffraction Methods

  • This study investigates the crystallinity distribution of ancient silk. Owing to the inherent multi-hierarchical structure of silk protein and the complicated structural changes that occur due to various burial environments, it is challenging but worthwhile to study ancient silk ageing behavior, which is based on the fact that ageing begins with a single fiber and then spreads to a whole fabric. Crystallinity was one of the most effective indicators found to reveal the ageing status of silk. Therefore, a synchrotron radiation-based X-ray diffraction(SR-XRD) method was employed to study the crystallinity distribution of single fibers of ancient silk unearthed from seven archaeological sites in China from historical periods including the warring states, Han dynasty, Song dynasty, and Ming dynasty. In comparison, the conventional X-ray diffraction method, which uses large amounts of samples, was also performed to determine the integral crystallinity of ancient silk. Thermal stability experiments by thermogravimetry(TG) as well as morphology observations by scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and optical microscopy(OM) all confirmed the deterioration of ancient silk. Moreover, the ageing mechanism of ancient silk was proposed with the assistance of an artificial ageing study. The results confirmed the effectiveness of SR-XRD as an ageing indicator, revealing the crystallinity distribution. This research could provide motivation to determine the deterioration status of ancient silk, and would also aid in explaining the fragility of ancient silk due to ageing.

Scenic Image Research Based on Big Data Analysis - Take China's Four Ancient Cities as an Example

  • This paper aims to compare the scenic images of four ancient Chinese cities including Lijiang, Pingyao, Huizhou and Langzhong, so as to provide specific development strategies for the ancient cities. In this paper, the ancient cities' scenic images are divided into three sub-indexes and eight evaluation dimensions. Based on this, the study first uses Python software to collect tourists' online comments on the four ancient cities. Then, the social network analysis method is used to build a high-frequency keywords matrix of tourist comments and the R language is used to generate a visual network graph. After this, the entropy weight method is used to determine the weights and values of eight evaluation dimensions. Finally, the tourists' overall satisfaction indexes of the four ancient cities are calculated accordingly. The results show that (1) the overall satisfaction of Lijiang is the highest, while that of Huizhou is the lowest; (2) from the weight of each evaluation dimension, it can be seen that tourists care more about the national culture and historical culture; (3) from tourists' satisfaction index on each evaluation dimension of the four ancient cities, we can find that the four ancient cities has their own advantages and disadvantages in tourism development. (4) local tourism-related institutions should strengthen their advantages and improve their deficiencies so as to enhance tourists' overall image of the ancient city.
