  • Purpose: This study examines how psychological heuristics influence stock price dynamics in Korea's distribution industry after significant price shocks. Research Design, Data, and Methodology: The study analyzes daily stock price movements exceeding 10% for Korean distribution companies from 1993 to 2022. It establishes anchoring heuristic reference points, including the 52-week high and low, and segments the sample based on company size and volatility. Results: We analyzed a sample previously studied by Lee et al. (2023). Our findings indicate that when a stock experiences a positive (negative) price shock near its 52-week high (or lowest price), investors in large (small) companies exhibit an optimism (pessimism) bias. This leads to overreactions and subsequent stock price reversals after the event date. Conversely, when a stock encounters a negative (positive) price shock near its 52-week high (or lowest price), investorstend to underreact due to anchoring heuristics. Thisresultsin a drift effect on the stock price after the event day. Notably, investor behavior around 52-week highs or lows directly impacts their heuristic behavior related to those price points. Conclusions: This paper uniquely examines behavioral biases among distribution-related stock investors in Korea, shedding light on stock price reversal and drift effects.

  • Recently, large-scale underground cavern such as underground hydraulic-power plant tend to be constructed very largely, so long-length rock bolt are generally used to support the huge plastic zone. However, problems fur bend-ing shape of the long-length steel bar and the bonding effects of anchoring systems are caused during the construction of the long-length rock bolt. In this study, field pull-out test for long-length rock bolt are carried out to estimate the most efficient anchoring system among the saw-toothed shape, grooved shape and smoothed shape with each 6 shells for 5.0m, 7.5m, 10.0m, 15.0m length. The axial load and axial displacement are measured with each load stage and than test results are analyzed to evaluate the behavior characteristics for each anchoring systems of long-length rock bolt. Also, the improvements of anchoring systems are proposed and discussed in this paper.

  • Bacterial surface display systems have been developed for various applications in biotechnology and industry. Particularly, the discovery and design of anchoring motifs is highly important for the successful display of a target protein or peptide on the surface of bacteria. In this study, an efficient display system on Escherichia coli was developed using novel anchoring motifs designed from the E. coli mipA gene. Using the C-terminal fusion system of an industrial enzyme, Pseudomonas fluorescens lipase, six possible fusion sites, V140, V176, K179, V226, V232, and K234, which were truncated from the C-terminal end of the mipA gene (MV140, MV176, MV179, MV226, MV232, and MV234) were examined. The whole-cell lipase activities showed that MV140 was the best among the six anchoring motifs. Furthermore, the lipase activity obtained using MV140 as the anchoring motif was approximately 20-fold higher than that of the previous anchoring motifs FadL and OprF but slightly higher than that of YiaTR232. Western blotting and confocal microscopy further confirmed the localization of the fusion lipase displayed on the E. coli surface using the truncated MV140. Additionally the MV140 motif could be used for successfully displaying another industrial enzyme, α-amylase from Bacillus subtilis. These results showed that the fusion proteins using the MV140 motif had notably high enzyme activities and did not exert any adverse effects on either cell growth or outer membrane integrity. Thus, this study shows that MipA can be used as a novel anchoring motif for more efficient bacterial surface display in the biotechnological and industrial fields.

  • Shipping companies have suffered additional losses because of irrational shipping finance decisions. This paper analyses the cases according to the behavioral finance theories. The theories of behavioral finance used in the analysis and research of this paper are the anchoring effect and sunk cost effect. The backgrounds and reasons for the decisions regarding ship financing are analysed based on the questionnaire responses and case studies. As a result of the analysis, it is found that the behavioral finance theories, anchoring effect, and sunk cost effect, have effects on the ship financing decisions, that errors related to behavioral finance can result in irrational decisions, and that shipping companies suffered additional losses because of the behavioral finance errors.

  • The liquid crystal (LC) aligning capabilities by the washing processes after rubbing on the two kinds of the rubbed polyimide (Pl) surface were studied. The polar anchoring energy of 4-n-pentyl-4'-cyanobiphenyl (5CB) increased with the rubbing strength RS on the two kinds of the rubbed PI surface. The polar anchoring energy of 5CB on the rubbed PI surface with alkyl side chains is larger than the rubbed PI surface with CONH moiety. Also, the surface ordering of 5CB on the rubbed PI surface with alkyl side chains is larger than the rubbed PI surface with CONH moiety. Therefore, the surface ordering of 5CB strongly depends on the polymers and washing process.

  • This paper investigated the preference change of payment terms in international trade along with counteroffer or first offer conditions of the other parties. Studies on trade payment terms have mainly focused on payment term determination factors such as firm size, product price level, country credit rate, etc. We tried to find other factors affecting payment terms choice, during the negotiation process. We applied behavioral economics theories such as 'Status Quo Bias' and 'Anchoring effect' to build our research model. To prove the existence of the above effects, we proceeded with field experiments to the exporting companies in Alibaba.com. Both 'Status Quo Bias' and 'Anchoring effect' were found in the field experiment. Most of the exporting companies preferred traditional payment methods to new payment methods. And an initial request for a low advance payment ratio led to a lower advance payment ratio. Also, the experience of using new payment methods could diminish status quo bias. This paper applied behavioral economics theories and field experiment methodology to the payment term studies in international trades. These attempts could contribute to expanding the diversity of methodology and scope of international trade studies.

  • This paper presents an experimental study to investigate the behavior of mechanical anchorage of reinforcing bars in concrete members. Three kinds of mechanical anchorage which are a kind of headed reinforcements are considered in this study. Total seven specimens were prepared to consider the effects of anchoring methods (Type A, Type B and Type C) and anchorage lengths of the reinforcing bars (14 $d_{b}$, 12 $d_{b}$, 9 $d_{b}$). Pullout tests conforming to ASTM were carried out to assess the effects of several variables on anchoring strength of bars. Based on the test results, it was concluded that the behavior of the specimen anchored by the mechanical anchorage with the anchor-age length of 12 $d_{b}$, is as good as, or better than that of the specimen anchored by 90-degree standard hook.rd hook.

  • Anchoring quantum dots (QDs) onto thermodynamically stable, large band gap oxide semiconductors is a very important strategy to enhance their quantum yields for solar energy conversion in both visible and near-IR regions. We describe a general procedure for anchoring a few chalcogenide QDs onto the titanium oxide layer. To anchor the colloidal QDs onto a mesoporous TiO2 layer, linker molecules containing both carboxylate and thiol functional groups were initially attached to TiO2 layers and subsequently used to capture dispersed QDs with the thiol group. Employing the procedure, we exploited cadmium selenide (CdSe) and cadmium telluride (CdTe) quantum dots (QDs) as inorganic sensitizers for a large band gap TiO2 layer of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). Their attachment was confirmed by naked eyes, absorption spectra, and photovoltaic effects. A few QD-TiO2 systems thus obtained have been characterized for photoelectrochemical solar energy conversion.

  • The effects of surfactant on the electro-optic properties of holographic polymer dispersed liquid crystal(HPDLC) have been studied hoping to increase the diffraction efficiency and to reduce the anchoring energy at interfaces. Octanoic acid(OA) was used as sulfactant. The 2,2,2 trifluoroethyl acrylate(TFEA) was added to the monomer mixture to enhance the phase separation and improve optical properties. The morphology of holographic gratings was examined using scanning electron microscopy(SEM). Addition of surfactant was likely to reduce the surface anchoring of the nematic droplet with the polymer surface which favors lowering of the swiching field and to improve the optical qualities.
