  • Consumers of web novels read online reviews in order to decrease uncertainty when purchasing a web novel. This study examines the types of messages (factual or evaluative) that consumers find more useful and verifies the moderating effect of individual analytical decision-making style levels on differences in usefulness evaluation. Based on the tendency to acquire objective information, the usefulness of factual online reviews was expected to be higher in the context of buying experience goods, such as a web novel. Levels of analytical decision-making styles, which were classified based on individual perception, are also expected to affect the usefulness evaluation of reviews. Experiments 1 and 2 were repeatedly conducted to examine whether consumers think factual reviews are more useful than evaluative reviews. In particular, Experiment 2 was conducted to simulate the circumstance of selecting a romance web novel and demonstrated that reviews have a significant effect on messages and decision-making styles. The interaction effect between analytical decision-making style levels and review message types was also confirmed in Experiment 2. The results of this study can help researchers and marketers comprehend the behavioral patterns of web novel readers when evaluating reviews and consuming experience goods.

  • The main purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between perceived the authoritarian parenting style and academic achievement among college students. Specifically, it is hypothesized that authoritarian parenting would indirectly affect the academic achievement of college students through self-differentiation level and career decision-making self-efficacy. 283 college students, after the consideration of their grade and gender, were selected for this study as participants. Methods describing the primary analytical technique of Structural Equation Modeling were used for the study. The results demonstrate that an authoritarian parenting style negatively affected the academic achievement of college students. There are mediation effects of self-differentiation and career decision-making self-efficacy between the perceived authoritarian parenting style and academic achievement among college students. The findings imply that the positive development of adult children requires more egalitarian parenting styles than those used on early adolescents. Next, for female students, specialized career counseling programs focusing on reducing psychological career barriers and career stress are needed. Lastly, it is implied that parenting styles used on adult children in Korea may differ from Western styles. Therefore, it may be difficult to explain the relationship between parents and adult children with a traditional theoretical framework.

  • Though people frequently rely on intuition in managing activities, they rarely use it in developing effective decision-making support systems. In this report, we investigate the correlations between characteristics of cognition and emotion and judgmental time-series forecasting accuracy, and compare their strengths by using a self-supervised adaptive neural network. Through the experiments, we hope to help find a desirable atmosphere for decision-making. Our experiments showed that both cognition characteristics and emotion characteristics had correlations with the time-series forecasting accuracy, and that cognition characteristics had larger correlation than emotion characteristics. We also found that conceptual style had larger correlation than behavioral or analytical styles with the accuracy.

  • Although people frequently rely on intuition in managing activities, they rarely use it in developing effective decision-making support systems. In this paper, we investigate and compare the correlations between such characteristics as cognition and emotion characteristics and judgmental time-series forecasting accuracy by using a self-organizing neural network, and eventually aim to help build efficient decision-making atmosphere. The neural network used in this paper employs a self-supervised adaptive algorithm, and the feature of which is that it inherently can use correlation between input vectors by exchanging information between neuron clusters in the self-organizing layer during the training. Our experiments showed that both cognition and emotion characteristics had correlations with judgmental time-series forecasting, and that cognition characteristics had larger correlation than emotion characteristics. We also found that conceptual style had larger correlation than behavioral and analytical styles, and displeasure-sleepiness style had larger correlation than pleasure-arousal style with the forecasting.
