  • It was difficult for user to identify e-books due to some problems such as duplicable bibliographic records and inconsistent descriptive cataloging when cataloging the bibliographic records of the e-book packages in OPAC. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to find the applicable methods of the provider neutral e-book(e-monograph) MARC record guideline for the standardization of the bibliographic records of the provider supplied e-book package. Through the literature reviews and homepage analysis of 15 university libraries in domestic, the theoretical background on cataloging e-book, the descriptive cataloging of e-book, the provider-neutral e-monograph MARC record guideline as new standard for e-book, and the libraries practices of cataloging bibliographic records of the e-book package were inquired. Based on these analysis, it was to suggest applicable methods of provider neutral e-book(e-monograph) MARC record guideline for the standardization of the bibliographic records of domestic e-book packages in aspect of cataloging rule, KORMARC, and neutral bibliographic records. This study will contribute to build FRBRization of the e-books in OPAC as finding the guideline for the standardization of the bibliographic records of the e-book packages for both providers and libraries.

  • In this study, the present condition of 8 Open APIs for books, such as Naver, Daum, Aladdin, Amazon, Google, KERIS, LibraryThing, and OCLC, were compared and analyzed. In addition, the bibliographic records of 167 samples of visible 'light & paraphotic' (DDC 535) classifications were selected from the bibliographic records of the library of C university, and the effectiveness of the Open APIs were compared and analyzed. On the basis of the results of this analysis, 12 Open API application models, which were judged to be useful in expanding the function of the access point of the bibliographic records and enhancing the library catalog using Open API, were experimentally implemented. Various methods of augmenting access points of bibliographic records and expanded library catalogue were investigated using the unique identifier described in the KORMARC fields of 001, 010, 012, 020, 035, 246, 505, 520, 850, 856 for the integrated format for bibliographic data, and Open API. Finally, using Open API for the brief display and detailed display screen as a result of search of the OPAC of the sample bibliographic records, the devices for the expanding library catalog were implemented as examples.

  • Although MAchine Readable Cataloging (MARC) and Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records (FRBR) are currently the most broadly used bibliographic structures for generating bibliographic data in the library community, each has its own weaknesses in describing information resources in diverse media. If the MARC format could be implemented in a structure that reflects the multi-layered characteristics of FRBR, its use could address current problems and limitations in resource description. The purpose of this research is to propose an alternative approach that can integrate the heterogeneous bibliographic structures of MARC and FRBR through the applications of facet and facet analysis. The proposed faceted data model is expected to function as a conceptual structure that can mediate between MARC data elements and FRBR attributes in order to utilize these structures in a more reliable and comprehensive way.

  • Bibliographic information-based MARC format is using in 66 countries, and it has been keeping the position of acknowledged information system in many national libraries. But the development of exchange format about integrated database to run integration the factual information and bibliographic information integrative is necessary. Actually factual information and bibliographic information are required frequently in the library. This paper was to extract the element field of factual information that will be expanded at the libraries, and to make the basic data of integrated database-based interactive format through comparative analysis of varied record format to be used around the world.

  • The present work is an attempt to provide an overview, about the status of R&D and current trends in Hydrogen Production using High Temperature Reactors. Bibliographic references from the INIS database, the Science Direct database and the NTIS database were downloaded and analyzed. Ten year data on the subject, published between 2001 and 2010, was selected for the study. Appropriate qued ry formulations on these databases, resulted in the retrieval of 621 unique bibliographic records. Using the content analysis method, all the records were analyzed. Part One of the analysis details Scientometric R&D indicators, Part Two is a subject-based analysis, grouped under: A. International Initiatives and Programmes for Hydrogen Production; B. European R&D initiatives for Hydrogen production; C. National Initiatives and Programmes for Nuclear Hydrogen Production; D. Reactor Technologies for Nuclear Hydrogen production; E. Fuel Developments; F. Hydrogen Production Processes using HTRs and G. Materials Consideration for Nuclear Hydrogen Production. The results of this analysis are summarized in the study.

  • This paper provides a brief overview of bibliographic relationships, a analysis of bibliographic relationships' characteristics of 2,940 bibliographic records on the Five Classics and Four Books taken from Korean National Bibliography, and a methodology for applying the FRBR model based on analysis of the samples. As results of analysis, the work type ranked high particularly in the commentary, translation with notes, and translation on the original works etc. I suggested adopting conception of supper works, that is, family of works and using uniform title as a connective device between the works, that is, an authorized access point of RDA to apply FRBR model of the Five Classics and Four Books. Also I exemplified the description of uniform title in 630 field as subject added entry.

  • Today, if a work is created and published, new items concerned with it gets expended extremely. There are bibliographic relationships between the original work and new items as it is translations, revisions, reproductions, critiques etc. Bibliographic relationships refer to the connections and associations between two or more than two bibliographic items. Tillett's study with taxonomy, as well as other studies of the bibliographic relationships is used as the foundation for analysis of the work types. The current study examines the work types based upon the bibliographic relationships of Korean publications. KORMARC records of the Korean collection of the Chonnam National University Library is used to draw a sample for analysis. The research results of the study are provided for future studies on the KORMARC format and organization of Korean collections.

  • IFLA's FRBR model is a significant contribution to cataloging on both theoretical and practical grounds. This paper provides a brief overview of FRBR, a methodology for applying the FRBR work concept to a random sample of 1,000 bibliographic records taken from Korean National Bibliographic, and estimates of the number of works in Korean National Bibliographic and their associated characteristics, based on analysis of the sample. FRBR model can be applied to 16.9% of all works in Korean National Bibliographic. Results suggest that the majority of benefits associated with applying FRBR to Korean National Bibliographic could be obtained by concentrated on a relatively small number of complex works.

  • In this study, based on the analysis of FRBRoo, we tried to propose suggestions to expand and improve the FRBR family conceptual model. FRBRoo is a plug-in ontology of CIDOC CRM with cooperation of museum field. As FRBR family models also revised and integrated into IFLA Library Reference Model, the additional analysis on IFLA LRM was performed. If bibliographic information is required to support the technical and user services of the library, the way to analyze the bibliographic information should be improved in order to cope with the new challenges faced by the library. To do this, time-related event concepts should be reflected in the modeling of bibliographic information. It is also necessary to expand the creation and exchange unit of bibliographic information to smaller units or larger units than legacy bibliographic records. Using FRBRoo as a linkage tool for the sharing of bibliographic information is also suggested.

  • With the rapid and broad changes of information ecology, the environment within which cataloging principles and standards operate has changed dramatically. As a result, IFLA study groups developed Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records(FRBR) model which is a conceptual model for bibliographic universe. This study intends to make a comprehensive inquiry about historical meanings and functional features of FRBR model. To the end, a comprehensive literature survey and analysis was conducted to introduce how hot and serious the discussion on this model in library cataloging. In conclusion, this study made several suggestions on the role of academic and library world (or applications of this model in Korea Library circumstance.
