  • High voltage induction motor is the important equipment for ensuring the driving performance of the electric train. PD(partial discharge) is a good indicator for showing the insulation performance of stator coil in HV induction motor. This paper has investigated the characteristics of PD occurrence aspects for both the sound and defective stator coil which consist of maximum PD amplitude(V), total occurrence number, average PD amplitude(V) and PD amplitude(v) - PD occurrence number(n). They were compared with each other depending on applied voltages and reconstructed to $60{\times}60$ matrices of PD amplitude(v)-occurrence phase (${\phi}$)-occurrence number(n) which is the good way to estimate the PD sources in stator coil.

  • An exact spectrum wish no leakage error could be obtained when the period of the signal coincides perfectly with the record length. However, the record length will be determined regardless of the period of signal. The Leakage error due to this problem will gibe a distorted spectrum. In the conventional research, the method was proposed to estimate the three parameters, frequency, amplitude and phase angle, from the spectrum data for anundamped sinusoidal signal. In this paper, some techniques are proposed to estimate frequency, amplitude and damping ratios from the frequency response functions for damped signals. The validation of the proposed techniques is verified by several numerical examples.

  • In order to estimate attenuation characteristics, nonparametric model is used. Evaluation of this model requires suites of average spectral amplitude data as a function of distance without adopting any assumed parametric forms. Values of Quality factor, Q were estimated for individual frequencies by matrix inversion of S wave amplitude spectra for 21 records of 8 small and intermediate earthquakes (2.7$(1/r)^{1/2}$. The best models for 1/Q values were found to be 0.000453+0.001851/f and 0.000451+0.009261/f, respectively. This results can be compared to the conventional functional form of Q=$af^{b}$ and be used to estimate source spectra and site response.

  • The purpose of this paper was to estimate the cumulative damage of pavement concrete by split tension fatigue test. The split tension fatigue test of variable amplitude loading were performed in two and three stages. The results of the fatigue test by variable amplitude loading showed that the sums of damage were greater than 1 in the increasing sequence loading tests, and less than 1 in the decreasing sequence loading tests. The remaining life estimated by equivalent damage theory was almost similar to that of experimental results.

  • The prediction of VIV amplitude is essential for the design and fatigue life estimation of steel tubes in tubular transmission towers. Limited to costly and time-consuming traditional experimental and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) methods, a machine learning (ML)-based method is proposed to efficiently predict the VIV amplitude of steel tubes in transmission towers. Firstly, by introducing the first-order mode shape to the two-dimensional CFD method, a simplified response analysis method (SRAM) is presented to calculate the VIV amplitude of steel tubes in transmission towers, which enables to build a dataset for training ML models. Then, by taking mass ratio M*, damping ratio ξ, and reduced velocity U* as the input variables, a Kriging-based prediction method (KPM) is further proposed to estimate the VIV amplitude of steel tubes in transmission towers by combining the SRAM with the Kriging-based ML model. Finally, the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed methods are demonstrated by using three full-scale steel tubes with C-shaped, Cross-shaped, and Flange-plate joints, respectively. The results show that the SRAM can reasonably calculate the VIV amplitude, in which the relative errors of VIV maximum amplitude in three examples are less than 6%. Meanwhile, the KPM can well predict the VIV amplitude of steel tubes in transmission towers within the studied range of M*, ξ and U*. Particularly, the KPM presents an excellent capability in estimating the VIV maximum amplitude by using the reduced damping parameter SG.

  • The bottom-simulating reflector (BSR) is the most commonly observed seismic indicator of gas hydrate in the Ulleung Basin, East Sea. We processed ten representative seismic reflection profiles, selected from a large data set, for amplitude variation with offset (AVO) analysis of the BSR to estimate gas-hydrate concentrations. First, BSRs were divided into five groups based on their seismic amplitudes and associated sediment types: (1) very high-amplitude BSRs in turbidite/hemipelagic sediments, (2) high-amplitude BSRs in debris-flow deposits, (3) moderate-amplitude BSRs in turbidite/hemipelagic sediments, (4) very low-amplitude BSRs in debris-flow deposits, and (5) very low-amplitude BSRs in seismic chimneys. The AVO responses of the group 1 and 3 BSRs are characterized by a rapid decrease and a relatively slow decrease in magnitude with offset, respectively. The AVO response of the group 2 BSR is characterized by a relatively slow increase in magnitude with offset. The AVO responses of the groups 4 and 5 BSRs are characterized by a flat AVO with very small zero-offset amplitude. Theoretical AVO curves, based on the three-phase Biot theory, suggest that the group 1 and 3 BSRs may be related to high (> 40%) concentrations of gas hydrate whereas the group 2 BSRs may indicate low (< 20%) concentrations of gas hydrate. The AVO responses of the group 4 and 5 BSRs cannot be compared with the theoretical models because of their very small zero-offset amplitudes. The comparison of the AVO response of the BSR at the UBGH-04 well with theoretical models suggests about 10% gas-hydrate concentration above the gas-hydrate stability zone.

  • Using a Rheometries Dynamic Analyzer (RDA II), the dynamic viscoelastic properties of a semi-solid ointment base (vaseline) in large amplitude oscillatory shear flow fields were measured over a temperature range of $25{\sim}45^{\circ}C$ and the linear viscoelastic behavior in small amplitude oscillatory shear flow fields was investigated over a wide range of angular frequencies. In this article, the nonlinear viscoelastic behavior was reported from the experimentally obtained data and the effect of temperature on this behavior was discussed in detail. In addition, the angular frequency and temperature dependencies of a linear viscoelastic behavior were explained. Finally, the applicability of a time-temperature superposition principle originally developed for polymeric materials was examined using a shift factor. Main results obtained from this study can be summarized as follows : (1) At very small strain amplitude region, vaseline shows a linear viscoelastic behavior independent of the imposed deformation magnitudes. Above a critical strain amplitude $({\gamma}_{0}=0.1{\sim}0.2%)$, however, vaseline exhibits a nonlinear viscoelastic behavior ; indicating that both the storage modulus and dynamic viscosity are sharply decreased with increasing deformation magnitude. (2) In large amplitude oscillatory shear flow fields, an elastic behavior (storage modulus) has a stronger strain amplitude dependence and begins to show a nonlinear behavior at a smaller strain amplitude region than does a viscous behavior (dynamic viscosity). (3) In small amplitude oscillatory shear flow fields, the storage modulus as well as the loss modulus are continuously increased as an increase in angular frequency and an elastic nature is always superior to a viscous behavior over a wide range of angular frequencies. (4) A time-temperature superposition principle can successfully be applicable to vaseline. This finding allows us to estimate the dynamic viscoelastic behavior of vaseline over an extraordinarily extended range (11 decades) of angular frequencies inaccessible from the experimentally measured range (4 decades).

  • In electronic warfare, the pulse amplitude, one of information of a pulse signal emitted by an enemy, is used for estimating distance from the source and for deinterleaving mixed source signals. An estimate of pulse amplitude is conventionally determined as the maximum magnitude of a Fourier transformed signal within its pulse width which is estimated pre-step in an electronic warfare receiver. However, when frequency modulated signals are received, it is difficult to estimate their pulse amplitudes with this conventional method because the energy of signals is dispersed in frequency domain. In order to overcome this limitation, this paper proposes an enhanced pulse amplitude estimation method which calculates the average power of the received pulse signal in time domain and removes the noise power of the receiver. Simulation results show that even in case the frequency modulated signal is received, the proposed method has the same performance as estimating the pulse amplitude when unmodulated signal is received. In addition, the proposed method is shown to be more robust to an estimation error of pulse width, which affects the estimation performance of pulse amplitude, than the conventional method.
