Wet scrubber is widely used to remove toxic gaseous contaminants in various industries such as semi-conductor industry, display manufacturing industry and so on. In this study, to optimize a packed bed scrubber as one of typical wet scrubber size while keeping its performance, four different packing materials were investigated at different air flow rates, liquid-gas ratios and pH values. Ammonia, hydrochloric acid and hydrofluoric acid were used as test gases to characterize the scrubber performance. Gas removal efficiency increased as the packing size decreased, which resulted in the increase of specific surface area. The increase of air flow rate led to the decrease of gas removal efficiency, while the increase of liquid-gas ratio led to the increase of gas removal efficiency. For the case of $NH_3$ gas, lower pH, and for the cases of HCl and HF, higher pH contributed to higher gas removal efficiency. Gas removal efficiency of a wet scrubber increased in the order of HCl < $NH_3$ < HF according to its water solubility.

Small capacity gas absorption systems for cooling and heating have been favorably considered to reduce the seasonal imbalance of electrical loads and LNG consumption recently. A multifunctional plate-fin heat exchanger was adopted as an absorber and the performance was tested and analyzed to reduce the size and weight of the absorption heat pump. The test was performed using breadboard type ammonia absorption machine. The performance was compared with the plate type absorber and there was little difference in heat and mass transfer characteristics. The heat and mass transfer performance was a function of poor solution and vapor flow rates and the mass transfer was dependent on vapor flow rate more than heat transfer.

Mixtures of hog manure slurry and sawdust were composted by an intermittent aeration method to verify the performance evaluation of pilot-scale reactor vessels during composting high rate (decomposition) process. Instrumentation was designed to measure temperatures in compost, oxygen and carbon dioxide concentration, air flow rates, and ammonia gas emitted. It was found that ammonia concentration during composting high rate decreased more quickly to the allowable range of 34-40 ppm after 14days at near the optimal levels (II) than in the case of lower levels (I). The influence of the optimal levels (II) such as moisture content (55-65%), C/N ratio (20-40), pH (7-8) and temperature in compost (<$60^{\circ}C$) on the reduction of ammonia gas was considerable for commercial composting.

In this paper, experimental investigations were carried out to remove NOx, SOx simultaneously from a simulated combustion flue gas [$NO(0.02%)-SO_2(0.08%)-CO_2-Air-N_2$] by using a pulse corona induced plasma chemical processing. Discharge domain of wire-cylindrical plasma reactor was separated from a gas flow duct to avoid unstable discharge by aerosol particle deposited on discharge electrode and grounded electrode. The NOx, SOx removal was experimentally investigated by a reaction induced to ammonium nitrate, ammonium sulfate using a low price of aqueous NaOH solution and a small quantity of ammonia. Volume percentage of aqueous NaOH solution used was 20% and $N_2$ flow rate was $2.5{\ell}/min$ for bubbling aqueous NaOH solution. Ammonia gas(l4.82%) balanced by argon was diluted by air and was introduced to a main simulated flue gas duct through $NH_3$ injection system which was in downstream of reactor. The $NH_3$ molecular ratio(MR) was determined based on [$NH_3$] and [$NO+SO_2$]. MR is 1.5. The NOx removal rates increased in the order of DC, AC and pulse, but SOx removal rates was not significantly effected by source of electricity. The NOx removal rate slightly decreased with increasing initial concentration. but SOx removal rate was not significantly affected by initial concentration. The NOx, SOx removal rates decreased with increasing gas flow rate.
Highly open porous polymer matrices are required for high density cell seeding, efficient nutrient, and oxygen supply to the cells cultured in the three dimensional matrices. However, there are severe problems of mass transfer limitations within the cell/scaffolds culture system. Thus we hypothesize that continuos-flow culture conditioning of cells with the scaffolds may improve the cell viability and the differentiated function. In this study, we fabricated porous PLGA scaffolds by using gas-foaming/salt-leaching method as previous described. Viscous PLGA gel paste contains ammonium bicarbonate particulates, acting as a gas-foaming agent as well as a salt-leaching porogen, were cast into Teflon mold and dried. Ammonium bicarbonate salt upon contact to an acidic aqueous solution evloves gaseous ammonia and carbon dioxide by itself. And we conjugated galactose moiety [AGA; $N-(aminobuty1)-O-{\beta}-D-galactopyranosyl-(1{\rightarrow}4)-D-glucoamide]$ to the terminal end group of a PLGA to increase the cell adhesion and matain the differentiated function of hepatocytes. Cell-seeded scaffolds were secured in a flow bioreactor chamber and exposed to continuous flow at 5 ml/min. As a result of our study, the high yield of hepatocytes attachment was accomplished by increasing the concentration of PLGA-AGA conjugate in polymer scaffolds and cells in the scaffolds under continuos flow condition maintained a high level of viability and albumin secretion rate of cultured hepatocytes showed a higher level that of control groups.

The spray-induced mixing characteristics and thermal decomposition of aqueous urea solution into ammonia have been studied to design optimum sizes and geometries of the mixing chamber in SCR(Selective Catalytic Reduction) system. The cold flow tests about the urea-injection nozzle were performed to clarify the parameters of spray mixing characteristics such as mean diameter and velocity of drops and spray width determined from the interactions between incoming air and injected drops. Discrete particle model in Fluent code was adopted to simulate spray-induced mixing process and the experimental results on the spray characteristics were used as input data of numerical calculations. The simulation results on the spray-induced mixing were verified by comparing the spray width extracted from the digital images with the simulated Particle tracks of injected drops. The single kinetic model was adopted to predict thermal decomposition of urea solution into ammonia and solved simultaneously along with the verified spray model. The hot air generator was designed to match the flow rate and temperature of the exhaust gas of the real engines The measured ammonia productions in the hot air generator were compared with the numerical predictions and the comparison results showed good agreements. Finally, we concluded that the design capabilities for sizing optimum mixing chamber were established.
Numerical calculation has been performed to investigate the fluid flow, heat transfer and local mass fraction of chemical species in the MOCVD (metalorganic chemical vapor deposition) manufacturing process. The mixing of reactants (trimethylgallium with hydrogen gas and ammonia) was presented by the concentration of each reactants to predict the uniformity of film growth. Effects of inlet size, location, mass flow rate and susceptor/cold wall tilt angle on the concentration were reported. The newly developed reactor, that precursors were supplied at separated inlet to prevent from premixing, was investigated to obtain the quantitative verification. As a results, the optimum mass flow rate, wall tilt angle and inlet conditions were proposed.

A biofilter was established to remove the ammonia, which is representative nitrogen-contained malodorous gas. in a compost factory. Removal efficiency of ammonia and hydrogen sulfide also was investigated. A quantity of malodor gas produced in a compost factory was affected greatly by the weather. compost states and working condition of a fertilizing mixer, and the produced gas concentrations doubled by above various parameters. By operating a water scrubbing system for removing water-soluble malodorous gases effectively. we could improve the removal efficiency over three times. We investigated long-term stability of biofilter under continuous gas flow(SV=500h-1) for 100 days. The results showed 30 days of microbial retention time. After the days, deodorization efficiency of biofilter was kept steady state. and the removal efficiency was kept over 95% for ammonia and 97% for hydrogen so]fide. respectively. The electric consumption of the biofilter, which could treat malodorous gas of 100$\textrm{m}^3$/min, applied in the compost factory was evaluated about 80u0day and water consumption was 80~100$\ell$/day. These results concluded that the biofilter is a excellent deodorization technology as well as cost-effective for removing malodorous gas produced in a compost factory.

The paper deals with the proper design of GGH(gas-gas heater) panel elements of desulfurization equipments in a thermoelectric power plant. When fossil fuels such as coal, petroleum et cetera are burnt to ashes, sulfur oxide compounds are produced, and calcareous sludges are deposited at GGH panel elements. In this case, operation of a power plant equipments is interrupted, and a tremendous economic loss comes into existence. One of the purposes of the paper is to find flow velocity distributions and regions of depositions when calcareous sludges pile up on the GGH panel elements through the fluid analysis. In the fluid analysis, flow velocity and position distributions of particles between GGH panel elements are demonstrated according to time variation for ammonia and calcium hydroxide particles.

Experimental investigations on the effect of two kinds of additives ; aqueous NaOH solution and ammonia(NH$_3$) for removal of NOx and SO$_2$ simultaneously by corona discharge were carried out. The simulated combustion flue gas was[NO(0.02[%])-SO$_2$(0.08[%])-$CO_2$-Air-$N_2$] Volume percentage of aqueous NaOH solution used was 20[%] and $N_2$flow rate was 2.5[$\ell$/min] for bubbling aqueous NaOH solution Ammonia gas(14.81[%]) balanced by argon was diluted by air. NH$_3$ molecular ratios(MR) based on [NH$_3$] and [NO+SO$_2$] were 1, 1.5 and 2.5 The vapour of aqueous NaOH solution and NH$_3$was introduced to the main simulated combustion flue gas duct through injection systems which were located at downstream of corona discharge reactor. NOx(NO+NO$_2$) removal rate by injecting the vapour of aqueous NaOH solution was much better than that by injecting NH$_3$however SO$_2$removal rate by injecting NH$_3$was much better than that by injecting the vapour of aqueous NaOH SO$_2$removal rate slightly increased with increasing applied voltage. When the vapour of aqueous NaOH solution and NH$_3$were simultaneously injection NOx and SO$_2$ removal rate were significantly increased.
