  • In order to reduce harmful biogenic amines in the traditionally fermented soybean products, five isolates with biogenic amines-degrading property were obtained from 83 traditionally fermented soybean products. The strains were found to reduce biogenic amines including histamine, tyramine, putrescine, and cadaverine by 27 to 92% in the cooked soybean containing 5.3% of each biogenic amine over 10 days of incubation. The morphological and biochemical tests and the phylogenetic relationships based on 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that the five isolates were most closely related to Bacillus subtilis or B. amyloliquefaciens. The use of selected strains would be a potential control measure in manufacturing traditionally fermented soybean products that are difficult to control biogenic amine levels.

  • In this research, we considered fractional order optimal control models for cancer, HIV treatment and glucose. These models are based on fractional order differential equations that describe the dynamics underlying the disease. It is formulated in term of left and right Caputo fractional derivative. Pontryagin's Maximum Principle is used as a necessary condition to find the optimal curve for the respective controls over fixed time period. The formulated problems are numerically solved using forward backward sweep method with generalized Euler scheme.

  • Vinylester was syntheszed in the presence of amine and metal catalysts, such as triethylamine(TEA), triethylbenzyl ammonium chloride (TEBAC), cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide (CTMAB), chromium acety] acetate (CAA), and triphenylantimony (TPA). Apropriate use of amine and organometal catalysts were 1.7~2.2 % (Wt. %), 2.5~3.1 % (Wt %) of charged methacrylic acid (MAA) in respect of reactivity, gel-time, and storage stability. The Order of reactivity was TEA>TEBAC>CTMAB>CAA>TPA. Temperature independence of catalyst showed more large deviation above $110^{\circ}C$. Storage stability could be improved without delay of gel-time by adding TPA in 2.0 % (Wt %) of charged MAA after synthesis.

  • As the refractive index of the prism layer becomes higher, the optical performance of the prism sheet gets better and the efficiency of the LCD backlight unit is improved. In order to increase the refractive index of the prism layer, the ultraviolet curing type resins were prepared by mixing high refractive index materials containing aromatic groups and the multi-functional reactive diluents. By using 9,9-bis [4-(2-acryloyloxyethoxy)phenyl] fluorene, the refractive index of the prism layer was increased up to 1.58 and the brightness of the backlight unit was improved. Since the light source used in the backlight unit caused the yellowing in the prism sheet and deteriorated the brightness accordingly, the hindered amine light stabilizer was used to improve the yellowing resistance successfully.

  • Carbon fibers were coated with carboxy modified poly(hydroxy ether)(C-PHE, water dispersed), water soluble polymers poly(hydroxy ether ethanol amine)(PHEA) or water insoluble poly(hydroxy ether)(PHE). Interfacial shear strength of polymer coated carbon fibers was measured by micro-droplet tests with vinyl ester resin, and approximately 30 samples were tested. The interfacial adhesion of poly-mers to carbon fibers was also evaluated, and diffusion behavior of polymer films in vinyl ester resin was investigated. The carbon fibers after testing and diffusion samples were analysed by SEM in order to understand adhesion mechanism. Interfacial shear strength of carbon fibers was enhanced by the coating of PHE and C-PHE which have good or marginal solubility in vinyl ester resin, respectively, but not by the coating of PHEA possibly due to the poor solubility in vinyl ester resin.

  • Second-order rate constants have been measured spectrophotometrically for the Michael-type reaction of 1-(Xsubstituted phenyl)-2-propyn-1-ones (2a-f) with amines in $H_2O$ at 25.0 ${\pm}$ 0.1 ${^{\circ}C}$. A linear Brønsted-type plot is obtained with ${\beta}_{nuc}$ = 0.25 ${\pm}$ 0.02, a typical $\beta_{nuc}$ value for reactions which proceed through a stepwise mechanism with attack of amine on the electrophilic center being the rate-determining step. Secondary alicyclic amines are found to be more reactive than isobasic primary amines. The Hammett plot for the reactions of 2a-f with morpholine is not linear, i.e., the substrate with a strong electron-donating group (e.g., 4-MeO) exhibits a negative deviation from the Hammett plot. However, the Yukawa-Tsuno plot for the same reactions exhibits an excellent linear correlation with ρ = 0.62 and r = 0.82. Thus, it has been proposed that the nonlinear Hammett plot is not due to a change in the ra te-determining step but due to ground-state stabilization through resonance interactions.

  • In this study, to improve the dispersity of $Fe_3O_4$ nanoparticles, dispersion properties were considered with various types of functionalization of $Fe_3O_4$ nanoparticles. Due to its high surface area, the electrically neutral state of its surfaces, and its magnetic momentum, $Fe_3O_4$ nanoparticles are easily aggregated in solution. In order to prevent aggregation, $Fe_3O_4$ nanoparticles were functionalized with carboxyl and amine groups in the form of a polymer compound. Carboxyl and amine groups were attached to the surface of $Fe_3O_4$ nanoparticles and the absolute value of the zeta potential was found to be enhanced by nearly 40 eV. Furthermore, the morphology and the magnetic property were analyzed for the application of $Fe_3O_4$ nanoparticles as a magnetic fluid.

  • The smelly nitro compounds were extracted from dried fishes by simultanous distillation and extraction, then were analyzed by GC-MS. Carbon number and order of an amine could be predicted by using retention time and equivalent chain length. Anchovy, codfish, imitation crab meat, cuttle fish, file fish, pollack, shrimp, octopus, harvest fish, and hard-shelled mussel were used for this investigation. Various smelly nitro compounds such as methylamine, acetamide, thiazole, 2-hydroxy isopropylamine, N-methyl pyrroline, piperidine, cyclohexylamine were identified, however, dimethylamine, trimethylamine, diethylamine were not detected. Principal components analysis was applied to GC-MS profiles for pattern recognition of smelly nitro compounds in dried fishes. Multivariate aspects using principal components analysis were very useful for pattern recognition of smelly components, category similarity.

  • Apparent second-order rate constants (kapp) have been measured spectrophotometrically for the reaction of 2,4-dinitrophenyl benzoate (DNPB) with 6 secondary cyclic amines in H2O containing 20 mole% DMSO at 25.0±0.1 ℃. The Bronsted-type plot (log kapp vs. pKa) shows a break at pKa near 9.1, e.g. two straight lines with βapp values of 0.67 and 0.44 for the low basic (pKa < 9.1) and the highly basic (pKa > 9.1) amines, respectively. Using an estimated k2 value of 3×109 sec-1, all the other microconstants (k1, k-1 and K) involved in the present aminolysis have been calculated. The k value decreases with increasing the basicity of amines while k1 and K values increase with increasing the amine basicity, as expected. Good linear Bronsted-type plots have been obtained for these microconstants of the present aminolysis of DNPB. The magnitudes of the slope of the Bronsted-type plots, k1 and k-1 have been calculated to be 0.43 and - 0.24, respectively, indicating the k-1 step is about two folds less sensitive than the k1 step to the amine basicity. The K value has been calculated to be 0.66, which appears to be much smaller than the one for other aminolyses showing general base catalysis. The small K value has been attributed to the absence of general base catalysis in the present aminolysis of DNPB.

  • Second-order rate constants have been measured spectrophotometrically for the reaction of p-nitrophenyl acetate (PNPA) with morpholine, piperazine and piperidine in MeCN-H2O mixtures of varying compositions. The rate of the present aminolysis decreases upon additions of MeCN into H2O up to near 30-40 mole % MeCN and remains nearly constant upon further additions of MeCN. The reaction of PNPA with anionic nucleophiles, such as HO-, p-chlorophenoxide and butane-2,3-dione monoximate, has also exhibited two distinguishable reactivity zones. However, the reactivity trend for the anionic nucleophiles is quite different from the one obtained for the amine system, e.g. an initial rate decrease in the H2O-rich region followed by an increasing rate trend upon further additions of MeCN in the MeCN-rich region. The rate behaviors shown by the amine system in the MeCN-rich and by the anionic system in the H2O-rich region are unexpected based on the Hughes-Ingold rules. The present unusual rate trends have been attributed to changes in the solvent structure and pKa of the nucleophiles upon the addition of MeCN into H2O. The effect of solvent appears to be more significant for the TS than the GS, and the TS structure is considered to become tighter in the higher MeCN concentration.
