  • The Purpose of this study is to analyze of Specialization and Diversity of Rural Amenity Resources Planning. It will be performed analysis of the degree of specialization and diversity in each city and district of Chungcheongnam-do Province. Specialization and diversity indices were calculated by separately category of rural amenity resources into natural, cultural, and societal resources. The results of calculating the specialization degree of rural amenity resources based on a location index showed that eleven regions (Asan City, Buyeo District, Gyeryong City, Gongju City, Nonsan City, Boryeong City, Seocheon District, Seosan City, Seajong District, Cheongyang District and Yesan City) specialized in natural resources; four regions (Geumsan District and Hongseong Distriect) specialized in cultural resources; and six regions (Dangjin District, Cheonan City) specialized in societal resources. Examining resource specialization degrees by regions, there was a high number of regions specialized in natural and societal resources while those specialized in cultural resources were the rarest. Examining the calculation results for the tendency of resource specialization degree by areas showed that, with natural and cultural resources specialized regions, the average specialization degree showed a clear distinction with a 2.19 natural resource specialization degree and a 2.05 societal resource degree; However, in contrast, areas specialized in cultural resources-with an average degree of 1.52-were judged as not being especially more specialized than the average degree of Chungcheongnam-do Province. Also, there was seen a great gap between regions with high diversity and regions with low diversity of rural amenities, and measures to solve this difference is required.

  • This study proposed a Rural Amenity Values Assessment Model (RAVAM) to evaluate the rural amenity resources based on the Myun as a spatial unit. In RAVAM, 61 rural amenity resources were classified into almost intact nature resources, interaction between nature and man resources, man-made resources, respectively. Especially, Rural Scenic Value Index (RSVI) was developed to quantify rural scenic views as a rural amenity resource. RSVI was utilized in evaluation process of rural amenity resources. The weighing factors for the amenity resources were evaluated from the step wise pair-comparison results of 11 specialists by Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP). In the results, the weighting values of almost intact nature resources, interaction between nature and man resources, man-made resources were 496, 323 and 181, respectively, among total value being 1,000.

  • This research is based on a rural village reconstruction business that is a priority under the national support act for rural village vitalization. Allowing for an analysis of the regional and annual classification of business contents as part of the master district implementation plan, this research presents amenity resource applications for the purpose of understanding the business contents and resource status reports. To analyze the utilization of amenity resources in the rural villages' overall development business, a content analysis of the business characteristics and resources of 299 districts was conducted for a seven-year period (2005-2011). Information that included district names, enterprise types, and specifications of a particular business, were coded in Excel, through exhaustive research of the 299 districts. Using this process, a more detailed categorization of seven years of business data, periodic, and regional business contents were defined. As a result of this research, it is apparent that the overall district's facility resources are optimized for the most, and that the environmental management of resources, including animal and plant resources, as well as water resources, is continuously decreasing, as was shown in the annual amenity resource usage transition. The annual amenity resource usage transition data denotes the highest rates in Jun-Ra-Buk-Do and Kyung-Sang-Buk-Do. In summary, this analysis verified the urgent need for diverse amenity resource utilization, research on practical alternatives, and the resource optimization of environmental controls for sustainable development in rural areas.

  • Rural landscape is essential resources to reinvigorate rural tourism and local economy. The objective of this study is to apply the methodology that can assess landscapes of many rural villages based on the data of Rural Amenity Resource Survey. Above all, to make the data of rural amenity resources survey appropriate for landscape assessment, that was reclassified into 4 landscape resource and 12 lower items. Secondly, 4 evaluation standards of rural landscape; weight of landscape resources, weight of lower items, evaluation of lower items as the number, and evaluation of management condition was established by questionnaire survey. Thirdly, the evaluation standards was applied to case study area; Jug-Goc Myeon, Goc-Seong county, Jeollanamdo. Finally, this result was compared with the other result that management condition was not included in, and the villages that were urgent to improve management condition were selected. As a result, water resource and management condition have great effects on the total quality of rural landscape. Therefore, there are many villages that have peat potentials although that indicates low quality of landscape, now.

  • Many urban people are attracted to the recreational opportunities and attractions of rural areas, such as beautiful scenery, lakes, mountains, forests, and resorts. Furthermore, rural development planning increasingly emphasizes the integration of resource extractive industries with non-market-based recreational and amenity values. This article outlines a method to estimate an amenity level of rural areas such as natural amenities index and shows the relation of the natural amenity and population growth. The results revealed that natural amenity classifying each region can be explained with geographical characteristics, temperature-humidity, and sunshine duration time. In analysis with population, natural amenity does not exactly explain that but can be one of the important factor of population change.

  • Rural policies in Korea have been changed into amenity-oriented ones recently to enhance the quality of life for villigians, which should be supported by the amenity-oriented maintenance system for rural space or environment too. Although so many studies on the classification system of amenity resources had been carried out, few ones which classified them principally by their spatial characteristics had been tried. From the viewpoint mentioned above, this study tried to propose a tentative classification system of amenity resources focussed on their locational characteristics. By the literature review, its draft was prepared, and after 2-round expert checks, the final table determined, which composed of 3-subsystems; green, production and living environment. Through the field application works in two case villages, its practical applicability was ascertained, from which two regarding points were found; public usability of terms and seasonality of amenity resources, especially green ones.

  • As rural landscape is considered important elements of rurality, there are many concerns about management and conservation. Rural development administration have performed rural amenity resources survey project in South Korea from 2005 for verifying states and efficient management of rural amenity. There are some problems about ambiguous definition of rural landscape range and data overlap. In this research, we reviewed rural amenity resources survey focusing rural landscape and analysized elements of 50 complex landscape resources in 2008 rural amenity selection 100. Finally, we suggested landscape viewpoint resource table in place of rural landscape because it can minimize data overlap in survey project.

  • The rural area has kept traditions and green open spaces highlighted in these days since the life quality elevated. Institute of Rural Resources Development has been conducting nation-wide survey project for rural amenity resources to construct the databases of rural amenity distribution and richness. Using surveyed data from the project, this study was implemented to evaluate rural amenity values based on SAW (Simple Additive Weighting) method considering two aspects including living and tourism amenity. For defining the set of evaluation criteria, the rural amenity resources were classified into almost intact nature resources(natural resources), interaction between nature and man resources(cultural resources) and man-made resources(social resources). The weighting values of the criteria were evaluated from the step wise pair-comparison results by AHP(Analytic Hierarchy Process) method. In the results of weighting values related to living amenity, social resources was the hightest ranked criterion (0.512), followed by cultural resources (0.245) and natural resources (0.243). On the other hand, the results related to tourism amenity was that weighting values of natural resources, cultural resources and social resources were 0.481, 0.340 and 0.179, respectively. The two aspects evaluation methods was applied to the selected 18 areas (Myeon administration level) in Chungcheongbuk Do. The results demonstrated the differences of amenity values for living conditions and tourism conditions and could be used for prioritizing rural amenity planning.

  • This study aims to suggest an evaluation methodology of green-tourism potential for village level with amenity resources in rural areas. The amenity resources system was classified into three sub-classes(social, industrial, and natural/cultural/historical resources) and a relationship diagram between three classes and tourists' behavior was also defined. The methodology considers human resources in the village including the three sub-class amenity resources. The table and diagram were applied to make renewal plan for rural villages of the study area, Nami-myun, Keumsan-gun, Chungnam province, so that the development scheme for the villages was suggested reasonably by the new findings of this study.

  • Recently 'Rural Amenity Resources Survey' has been launched to preserve unique and various attributes of rural amenity resources in rural areas. While vast amounts of field data are being collected, there has been insufficient means to share and analyze the data among users. This article addresses crucial issues on why more systematical approaches of building an information system to retrieve and represent information more efficiently. In this work, we have developed an alternative 'Rural Amenity Resources Information System' using Web-GIS and ontology, and later examined its applicability.
