The critical strain energy release rate and the failure mechanisms of glass-carbon epoxy resin hybrid composites are investigated in the temperature range of the ambient temperature to 8$0^{\circ}C$. The direction of laminates and the volume fraction are [(+45, -45, 0, 0) sub(2) ] sub(s), 50%, respectively. The major failure mechanisms of these composites are studied using the scanning electron microscope for the fracture surface. Results are summarized as follows: 1) The critical strain energy release rate shows a maximum at ambient temperature and it tends to decrease as temperature goes up. 2) The critical strain energy release rate increases as the content of glass increases, and especially shows dramatic increase for the high glass fiber content specimens. 3) Major failure mechanisms can be classfied such as localized shear yielding, fiber-matrix debonding, matrix micro-cracking, and fiber pull-out and/or delamination.
Korea and some other countries located in the northern hemisphere employ the air conditioner for the space cooling in the hot summer season and also some kinds of heaters for the space heating in the cold winter season. Especially in Korea, a great number of air conditioners of about 12,700,000 sets have been used these days. However, they are used for a short operation period of only 58 days a year, which results in the material and economic losses. To solve this problem and employ this system for the emergency shelter, a new conversion unit which could convert the existing air conditioner to a heat pump system for simultaneous heating and cooling was developed in this study, and the thermal performance was tested. The results indicated that the indoor air could be heated from $27^{\circ}C$ to $39^{\circ}C$ by the air conditioner converted to a heat pump system with the ambient temperature variation of $-10^{\circ}C{\sim}10^{\circ}C$, and cooled from $20^{\circ}C$ to $15^{\circ}C$ by the converted system with the ambient temperature variation of $20^{\circ}C{\sim}35^{\circ}C$. And also the heating COP increased from 3.3 to 5.3 in case of the heat exchange of the super cooling(HESC) circuit and from 3.0 to 4.0 in case of the By-pass with the ambient temperature variation of $-10^{\circ}C{\sim}10^{\circ}C$, respectively, whereas the cooling COP decreased from 3.1 to 2.1with the increase of the ambient temperature from $20^{\circ}C$ to $35^{\circ}C$.

We present a set of high-resolution 3D MHD simulations exploring the evolution of light, supersonic jets in cluster environments. We model sets of high- and low-Mach jets entering both uniform surroundings and King-type atmospheres and propagating distances more than 100 times the initial jet radius. Through complimentary analyses of synthetic observations and energy flow, we explore the detailed interactions between these jets and their environments. We find that jet cocoon morphology is strongly influenced by the structure of the ambient medium. Jets moving into uniform atmospheres have more pronounced backflow than their non-uniform counterparts, and this difference is clearly reflected by morphological differences in the synthetic observations. Additionally, synthetic observations illustrate differences in the appearances of terminal hotspots and the x-ray and radio correlations between the high- and low-Mach runs. Exploration of energy flow in these systems illustrates the general conversion of kinetic to thermal and magnetic energy in all of our simulations. Specifically, we examine conversion of energy type and the spatial transport of energy to the ambient medium. Determination of the evolution of the energy distribution in these objects will enhance our understanding of the role of AGN feedback in cluster environments.

The potential ability of environmental temperature to enhance the effect of microwave radiation (7 GHz) was experimentally studied for rabbit heating after simultaneous application of both agents. The tested ambient temperatures (30 and $38^{\circ}C$) didn't exert a considerable influence upon rabbit heat homeostasis after the used duration of exposure (3 hours and 15 minutes, correspondingly). The synergistic interaction of microwave irradiation and ambient temperature was demonstrated for rabbit heating. Power flux density of microwave irradiation was shown to be a determinant of the synergistic interaction effectiveness. For the fixed ambient temperature ($30^{\circ}C$), the synergism was shown to be observed only within a definite power flux density ($0-100\;mW{\cdot}cm^{-2}$), inside of which there was an optimal intensity ($20\;mW{\cdot}cm^{-2}$), which maximized the synergistic effect. Any deviation of the power flux density from the optimal value resulted in a reduction of the synergy. It is concluded that any assessment of the health or environmental risks should take into account the synergistic interaction between ambient temperature and microwave radiation.

The sulfur-iodine (SI) thermochemical water splitting cycle is one of promising hydrogen production methods from water using high-temperature heat generated from a high temperature gas-cooled nuclear reactor (HTGR). The SI cycle consists of three main units, such as Bunsen reaction, HI decomposition, and $H_2SO_4$ decomposition. The feasibility of continuous operation of a series of subunits for $H_2SO_4$ decomposition was investigated with a bench-scale facility working at ambient pressure. It showed stable and reproducible $H_2SO_4$ decomposition by steadily producing $SO_2$ and $O_2$ corresponding to a capacity of 1 mol/h $H_2$ for 24 hrs.
As a unutilized energy, treated sewage water locates widespread near urban areas. From the previous survey, the sewage water is reported to hold energy potential up to 36,000 Tcal/year, which was 2.1% of the total domestic energy consumption and 9.7% of the energy usage in the household and business sector in 2006. Temperature of the sewage water differs locally, but its range is observed in a range of $20{\sim}25^{\circ}C$ in summer and $8{\sim}13^{\circ}C$ in winter. Since the temperature range of the sewage water has a better seasonal distribution about $5{\sim}10^{\circ}C$ compared to ambient air, it is a promising heat sink for summer or heat source for winter. The sewage water is also a high quality heat source from its abundant quantity and uniform temperature. Considering the ambient temperature of Korea is very low in winter, a heat pump system using the sewage water can be an alternative to prevent problems of capacity deficiency and frost formation.

Because of directly receiving the thing in which a microwave is reflected and comparing the frequency, the microwave sensor with doppler effect completely overcomes the problem of the passive infrared sensor. The microwave sensor with doppler effect well operates about a temperature, the dust, and the peripheral noise because of being dull in the most of ambient conditions. The system developed in this research is the electricity saving detection sensor which it senses the real time action of a man as the microwave sensor and automatically turns on the electric lamp and turns off, minimizes the electrical energy consumption. Since the microwave sensor is not influenced in the light, the dust, and the natural element like the ambient temperature, the effectiveness is considered to be superior to the passive infrared sensor being used currently. There was the energy reduction effect more than about 60% in the performed example which established this system. When this was compared with the construction cost, the cost of establishing payback period was about 1-1.5 year. The microwave sensor with doppler effect developed from this research result is convinced in the future to do enough for the electric energy saving.

Thermodynamic sorption modeling can enhance confidence in assessing and demonstrating the radionuclide sorption phenomena onto various mineral adsorbents. In this work, Ca-montmorillonite was successfully purified from Bentonil-WRK bentonite by performing the sequential physical and chemical treatments, and its geochemical properties were characterized using X-ray diffraction, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller analysis, cesium-saturation method, and controlled continuous acid-base titration. Further, batch experiments were conducted to evaluate the adsorption properties of Cs(I) and Sr(II) onto the homoionic Ca-montmorillonite under ambient conditions, and the diffuse double layer model-based inverse analysis of sorption data was performed to establish the relevant surface reaction models and obtain corresponding thermodynamic constants. Two types of surface reactions were identified as responsible for the sorption of Cs(I) and Sr(II) onto Ca-montmorillonite: cation exchange at interlayer site and complexation with edge silanol functionality. The thermodynamic sorption modeling provides acceptable representations of the experimental data, and the species distributions calculated using the resulting reaction constants accounts for the predominance of cation exchange mechanism of Cs(I) and Sr(II) under the ambient aqueous conditions. The surface complexation of cationic fission products with silanol group slightly facilitates their sorption at pH > 8.

This experiment was conducted in three trials to evaluate optimal ambient temperature for a novel milk replacer feeding system designed for early-weaned pigs, compared to commercial dry diets fed within a conventional hot nursery. A total of 165 PIC genotype pigs were weaned at $13.89{\pm}0.7$ days of age and allotted to one of two dietary treatments in three trials based on weight and litter origin. Each trial consisted of pigs fed dry diets (DD) and pigs fed milk replacer (MR) which was offered in one of 3 different ambient temperatures. Pigs fed milk replacer were housed in a specialized nursery building in which one half of each pen contained an enclosed hover that was thermostatically maintained at $32^{\circ}C$ while the exterior ambient temperature (where milk was fed) was set at either 17 (trial 1), 24 (trial 2) or $32^{\circ}C$ (trial 3). Pigs fed dry diets with the conventional nursery were maintained at $30^{\circ}C$ for each trial. From d 21 to d 49, all pigs were fed DD within a standardized hot nursery environment. During the first week (d 14-21), pigs fed MR showed increased ADG from 214% to 228% over control pigs fed DD (p<0.001), regardless of ambient temperature. As ambient temperature was increased from 17 to 24 to $32^{\circ}C$, ADG of MR-fed pigs was increased by 214%, 220% and 228% over those of pigs fed DD, respectively. ADFIs of MR-fed pigs at $17^{\circ}C$, $24^{\circ}C$, and $32^{\circ}C$ compared with pigs fed DD were increased by 108%, 139% and 164% from d 14 to d 21, respectively. Fed efficiency (G/F) of MR-fed pigs at $17^{\circ}C$, $24^{\circ}C$, and $32^{\circ}C$ compared with pigs fed DD were 199%, 162% and 139% of those of pigs fed DD, respectively. As ambient temperature increased, diarrhea scores showed a slight tendency to increase. The advantage of MR feeding was greater when the ambient temperature was higher, but G/F was impaired with increased ambient temperature. We conclude that ambient temperature within the specialized nursery influenced behavior, MR feed intake, and probably piglet energy expenditure. There were no differences between MR-fed and DD-fed pigs for ADG, ADFI and G/F in the subsequent growth period (d 21 to d 49, p>0.05). Maximal advantage of MR feeding was obtained at the intermediate ($24^{\circ}C$) ambient temperature during the overall period (p<0.05). Results from this experiment indicate that a milk replacer feeding system utilized in the early postweaning period can maximize pig growth performance, and that ADG, ADFI and G/F were affected by different ambient temperatures within MR-fed pigs. The high or low temperatures could not support the maximal growth of pigs fed MR.

This paper describes the measurement technology of the dissolved hydrogen gas due to partial discharge in oil using gas sensor. For higher resolution and less error in measurement of the dissolved hydrogen gas in oil, the sensor outputs with ambient temperature which affect the sensor output characteristics should be considered. The sensor output trends with ambient temperature and the properties of the dissolved hydrogen gas in oil with partial discharge characteristic were analyzed through the test results. It was indicated that the sensor peak and the base voltage with measuring time were affected by ambient temperature and the measurement errors of the sensor output by temperature were reduced by using the difference between the peak and the base voltage rather than just the peak voltage. In addition, the hydrogen gas sensor outputs were increased with the increase of partial discharge energy.
