In order to analyze the sheet drawability, the measurement of the plastic strain ratio was carried out for the 5182 aluminum alloy sheets in which were cold rolled without lubrication and subsequent recrystallization annealing. The average plastic strain ratio of the 5182 aluminum sheets was 1.50. It was considered that the higher plastic strain ratio was resulted from the ND//<111> component evolved during rolling and maintained during annealing. The AA5182/polypropylene/AA5182 (AA/PP/AA) sandwich sheets of the 5182 aluminum alloy skin sheet and the polypropylene core sheet with high formability have been developed for application for automotive body panels in future light weight vehicles with significant weight reduction. The AA/PP/AA sandwich sheets were fabricated by the adhesion of the core sheet and the upper and lower skin sheets. The AA/PP/AA sandwich sheet had high plastic strain ratio (1.58), however, the planar anisotropy of the sandwich sheet was little changed after fabrication. The optimum combination of directionality of the upper and lower skin sheets having high plastic strain ratio and low planar anisotropy was calculated theoretically and an advanced process for producing the sandwich sheets with high plastic strain ratio was proposed. The developed sandwich sheets have a high average plastic strain ratio of 1.55 and a low planar anisotropy of 0.17, which was improved more by 3.2 times than that of 5182 aluminum single sheet.

Sheet aluminum alloys have been used in manufacturing of machine structures. In fatigue crack propagation behavior of thin sheet aluminum alloys, it is important that fatigue crack growth rate is affected by crack closure phenomenon. In this work, we analyzed the characteristics of fatigue crack propagation behavior in experiment of constant stress condition for thin sheet Al 2024-T3 alloys, and identified the retardation behavior of crack growth by comparing experimental results of thin and thick plate specimen. We attempt to operate the fatigue life estimating process using the fatigue related material constants from referred fatigue crack propagation analysis. And we analyzed the experimental and prediction results of fatigue life of thin sheet aluminum alloy in order to identify the relation between retardation behavior of fatigue crack growth and crack closure phenomenon.
As part of efforts to reduce the weight of automotive body-in-white, a hybrid center pillar with high strength 7075 aluminum alloy (AA7075) sheet and carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) has been recently studied. In the fabrication of the AA7075-CFRP hybrid center pillar, the AA7075 sheet might go through heating-forming-in-die quenching (HFQ), artificial aging, hybridizing, and then paint baking processes. In this study, we investigate the effects of the heat treatment history associated with each process on the tensile strength of the AA7075 sheet. Typical heat treatment conditions are HFQ for 20 minutes at 480℃ and then cooling down with die, artificial aging of T6 temper for 24 hours at 120℃, hybridizing for 10 minutes at 150℃, and paint baking for 20 minutes at 180℃. The tensile strength of the AA7075 sheet is continuously increased by a series of heat treatments of hybridizing and paint baking and is expected to have yield stress above 500MPa without artificial aging of T6 temper.

The drawbead is one of the most important factors in sheet metal forming for automotive parts. So clarifying the friction characteristics between sheets and drawbead is essential to improve the formability of sheet metal. Therefore in this study, drawbead friction test was performed at various panels(cold rolled steel sheets, galvanized steel sheets, electrogalvanized coating steel sheets, electrogalvanized Zn-Fe alloy steel sheets and aluminum alloy steel sheets). Circular shape bead has been used for the test. The results show that friction and drawing characteristics were mainly influenced by the nature of zinc coating.
In order to examine the springback amount and material properties of aluminum alloy sheets (AL1050 and AL5052) in the warm forming which forms the sheet above the room temperature, the stretch bending and draw bending tests and tensile test in various high temperatures are carried out. The warm forming temperature 15$0^{\circ}C$ is a transition in terms of the material properties: over the forming temperature 15$0^{\circ}C$, them $\sigma$$_{YS}$ , $\sigma$$_{TS}$ , E, K, n, etc. are bigger but $\varepsilon$ and plastic strain ratio are smaller. Below the forming temperature 15$0^{\circ}C$, there are no big differences in material properties as the forming temperature changes. AL5052 sheet has more springback effect than AL1050 sheet. While the springbacks of AL5052 and AL1050 sheets show a big reduction over the warm forming temperature 15$0^{\circ}C$ in the stretch bending test, the springback rapidly reduces in the warm forming temperature 15$0^{\circ}C$-20$0^{\circ}C$ for AL5052 sheet and 20$0^{\circ}C$-25$0^{\circ}C$ for AL1050 sheet in the draw bending test.
A study on the microstructure, the texture and the formability of the samples after ECAPed and subsequent heat-treated AA 1050 aluminum alloy sheet have been carried out. The specimens after the ECAP showed a very fine grain size, a decrease of <100> // ND, and an increase of <111> // ND textures. The $\{111\}<112>,\;\{123\}<634>,\;\{110\}<001>,\;\{112\}<111>,\;\{110\}<111>,\;and\;\{013\}<231>$ texture components were increased in the specimens after the ECAP and subsequent heat-treatment at $400^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour. One of the most important properties in sheet metals is formability. The r-value or plastic strain ratio has was as a parameter that expressed the formability of sheet metals. The change of the plastic strain ratios after the ECAP and subsequent heat-treatment conditions were investigated and it was found that they were two times higher than those of the initial Al sheets. This could be attributed to the formation above texture components through the ECAP and subsequent heat-treatment of AA 1050 Aluminum alloy sheet.

The planar anisotropic FEM analysis for predicting the earing profiles and draw-in amounts in the deep-drawing processes is introduced. An implicit, incremental, updated Lagrangian formulation with a rigid-viscoplastic constitutive equation is employed. Contact and friction are considered through the mesh-based unit vectors and the normal contact pressure. the consistent full set of governing relations, comprising equilibrium and geometric constraint equations, is appropriately linearized. Barlat's strain-rate potential is employed, whose in-plane anisotropic properties are taken into account with anisotropic coefficients and potential parameter. The linear triangular membrane elements are used for depicting the formed sheet. with the numerical simulations of deep drawing processes of flat-top cylindrical cup for the 2090-T3 aluminum effects on the earing behavior are examined. Earing predictions made for the 2090-T3 aluminum alloy sheet show good agreement with experiments, although some discrepancies were observed in the directional trend of cup height and thickness strains.
Anisotropy has an important effect on the strain distribution in aluminum alloy sheet forming, and it is closely related to the thinning and formability of sheet metals. Thus, the anisotropy of the material should be properly considered for the realistic analyses of aluminum sheet forming processes. For this, anisotropy can be approached in two different scales: phenomenological and microstructural (polycrystal) models. Recent anisotropic models (Yld2000-2d; Barlat et al.[1] 2003, Cuitino et al.[2] 1992) were employed in this work. For the simulation using shell element, the method which can impose plane stress condition in the polycrystal model is developed. Lankford values and yield stress ratios are calculated along various directions. As planar anisotropic behavior, a circular cup deep drawing simulation was carried out to compare the phenomenological and microstructure models in terms of earing profile.
In this study, the hybrid and roller hemming processes of aluminum alloy sheets were compared using the finite element analysis. The aluminum alloy 6014-T4 sheet with a thickness of 1 mm was used for the hemming process. The mechanical properties of the aluminum sheet obtained through a uniaxial tensile test were used for the simulation. The finite element analysis of hybrid and roller hemming was performed using a commercial software (ABAQUS) by the use of the mechanical properties. The finite element simulation results showed that the hybrid hemming holds an advantage over the roller hemming in terms of the dimensional accuracy

Anisotropy is closely related to the formability of sheet metal and should be considered carefully for more realistic analysis of actual sheet metal forming operations. In order to better describe anisotropic plastic properties of aluminum alloy sheets, a planar anisotropic yield function which accounts for the anisotropy of uniaxial yield stresses and strain rate ratios simultaneously was proposed recently[1]. This yield function was used in the finite element simulations of cup drawing tests for an aluminum alloy 2008-T4. Isotropic hardening with a fixed initial back stress based on experimental tensile and compressive test results was assumed in the simulation. The computation results were in very good agreement with the experimental results. It was shown that the initial back stress as well as the yield surface shape have a large influence on the prediction of the cup height profile.
