Synthesis of Aluminum Nitride Nanopowders by Carbothermal Reduction of Aluminum Oxide and Subsequent In-situ Nitridization (산화알루미늄 분말의 탄소열환원 및 직접 질화반응을 통한 질화알루미늄 나노분말의 합성)

  • Aluminum nitride (AlN) nanopowders with low degree of agglomeration and uniform particle size were synthesized by carbothermal reduction of alumina and subsequent direct nitridization. Boehmite powder was homogeneously admixed with carbon black nanopowders by ball milling. The powder mixture was treated under ammonia atmosphere to synthesize AlN powder at lour temperature. The effect of process variables such as boehmite/carbon black powder ratio, reaction temperature and reaction time on the synthesis of AlN nanopowder was investigated.

  • Digitalization in electronic system is required the capacitor which have a large capacitance with small size, low impedance at high frequency, and high reliability. The fabrication and its properties of aluminum solid electrolytic capacitor are investigated. Employing conduction polymer film such as, polypyrrole as solid electroylte, solid type aluminum electrolytic capacitors were made. The surface of insulationg oxide is covered with conducting polymer layer prepared by chemical oxidative polymerization. Thereafter this conducting layer is covered with conducting polymer prepared by electrochemical polymerization. The dielectric properties of these capacitors were also measured and discussed. Regarding on frequency characteristics of the trial made capacitor, impedance and ESR at high frequency is lower than those of the stacked type film capacitor. It is alo confirmed that temperature coefficient of capacitance and dissipation factor of the capacitor are lower than those of film capacitor and liquid type aluminum electrolytic capacitor.

  • An Al film deposited on the Kovar alloy substrate was anodically-bonded to the borosilicate glass, and the bond interfaces was closely investigated by transmission electron microscopy. Al oxide was found to form a layer ~l0 nm thick at the bond interface, and fibrous structure of the same oxide was found to grow epitaxially in the glass from the oxide layer. The fibrous structure grew with the bonding time. The mechanism of the formation of this fibrous structure is proposed on the basis of the migration of Al ions under the electric field. Penetration of Al into glass beyond the interfacial Al oxide was not detected. The comparison of the amount of excess oxygen ions generated in the alkali depletion layer with that incorporated in the Al oxide suggests that the growth of the alkali-ion depletion layer is controlled by the consumption of excess oxygen to form the interfacial Al oxide.

Development of I-Chuck for Oxide Etcher (Oxide Etcher 용 E-Chuck의 기술개발)

  • A unipolar-type E-chuck was fabricated for the application of holding silicon wafers in the oxide etcher. For the fabrication of the unipolar ESC, core technologies such as coating of polyimide films and anodizing treatment of aluminum surface were developed. The polyimide films were prepared on thin coated copper substrates to minimize the plasma damage during the etch processing. Thin film heater technology was also developed for new type of E-chuck.

  • This work reports a facile and effective antibacterial coating for oxide substrates. As a coating material, a random copolymer, abbreviated as poly(TMSMA-r-PEGMA), was synthesized by radical polymerization of 3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl methacrylate (TMSMA) and poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate (PEGMA). Polymeric self-assembled monolayers of poly(TMSMA-r-PEGMA) were formed on various inorganic oxide substrates, including silicon oxide, titanium dioxide, aluminum oxide, and glass, via the simple dip-coating process. The polymer-coated substrates were characterized by ellipsometry, contact angle measurements, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The bacterial adhesion on the polymer-coated substrates was completely suppressed compared to that on the uncoated substrates.

  • The increasing interest in light weight materials coupled to the need for cost -effective processing have combined to create a significant opportunity for aluminum P/M. particularly in the automotive industry in order to reduce fuel emissions and improve fuel economy at affordable prices. Additional potential markets for Al PIM parts include hand tools. Where moving parts against gravity represents a challenge; and office machinery, where reciprocating forces are important. Aluminum PIM adds light weight, high compressibility. low sintering temperatures. easy machinability and good corrosion resistance to all advantages of conventional iron bm;ed P/rv1. Current commercial alloys are pre-mixed of either the AI-Si-Mg or AL-Cu-Mg-Si type and contain 1.5% ethylene bis-stearamide as an internal lubricant. The powder is compacted in closed dies at pressure of 200-500Mpa and sintered in nitrogen at temperatures between $580~630^{\circ}C$ in continuous muffle furnace. For some applications no further processing is required. although most applications require one or more secondary operations such as sizing and finishing. These sccondary operations improve the dimension. properties or appearance of the finished part. Aluminum is often considered difficult to sinter because of the presence of a stable surface oxide film. Removal of the oxide in iron and copper based is usually achieved through the use of reducing atmospheres. such as hydrogen or dissociated ammonia. In aluminum. this occurs in the solid st,lte through the partial reduction of the aluminum by magncsium to form spinel. This exposcs the underlying metal and facilitates sintering. It has recently been shown that < 0.2% Mg is all that is required. It is noteworthy that most aluminum pre-mixes contain at least 0.5% Mg. The sintering of aluminum alloys can be further enhanced by selective microalloying. Just 100ppm pf tin chnnges the liquid phase sintering kinetics of the 2xxx alloys to produce a tensile strength of 375Mpa. an increilse of nearly 20% over the unmodified alloy. The ductility is unnffected. A similar but different effect occurs by the addition of 100 ppm of Pb to 7xxx alloys. The lend changes the wetting characteristics of the sintering liquid which serves to increase the tensile strength to 440 Mpa. a 40% increase over unmodified aIloys. Current research is predominantly aimed at the development of metal matrix composites. which have a high specific modulus. good wear resistance and a tailorable coefficient of thermal expnnsion. By controlling particle clustering and by engineering the ceramic/matrix interface in order to enhance sintering. very attractive properties can be achicved in the ns-sintered state. I\t an ils-sintered density ilpproaching 99%. these new experimental alloys hnve a modulus of 130 Gpa and an ultimate tensile strength of 212 Mpa in the T4 temper. In contest. unreinforcecl aluminum has a modulus of just 70 Gpa.
