Al-Mg-Si/Al hybrid alloy was prepared by Duo-casting and the mechanical behavior was evaluated based on their microstructure and mechanical properties. The hybrid aluminum alloy included the Al-Mg-Si alloy with fine eutectic structure, pure Al with the columnar and equiaxed crystals, and the macro-interface existing between Al-Mg-Si alloy and pure Al. The growth of columnar grains in pure Al occurred from the macro-interface. The tensile strength, 0.2% proof stress and bending strength of the hybrid aluminum alloy were almost similar to those of pure Al, and the elongation was much higher than the Al-Mg-Si alloy. The fracture of the hybrid alloy took place in pure Al side, indicating that the macro-interface was well bonded and the mechanical behavior strongly depends on the limited deformation in pure Al side.
Variation of Al tolerance in Pinus densiflora, P. rigida and P. thunbergii was investigated in a solution culture. Root length decreased as Al concentration increased, and decreased more in dilute culture media than in dense one. Aluminum tolerance based on relative root length was in the order of P. rigida > P. densiflora > P. thunbergii. Al content in tissue increased as Al concentration of the media increased, but the reverse was true for content of Ca and Mg. Al tolerance for root length showed intraspecific variation, even under the same Al concentration in the media.
${\gamma}$-LiAlO2 fibers for fiber reinforced molten carbonate fuel cell (MCFC) matrix have been produced from LiAlO2 complex polymeric sols using the sol-gel process. The stable and spinnable LiAlO2 sols could be synthesized by mixing LiNO3 alcohol solutions in aluminum complex polymeric sols prepared through the condensationpolymerization reaction of 1 more of aluminum tri-sec-butoxide with 0.55 mole of mixed chelates (mole ratio of acetylaceton/triethanolamine=0.25/0.3). It was found that the viscosity range for fiber-spinning should be higher than 30 poise. The defect-free flexible ${\gamma}$-LiAlO2 fibers with the average tensile strength of 350 MPa could be obtained when the spinned fibers were heat-treated to 120$0^{\circ}C$ on the specified heating schedule after dried at room temperature.

Age hardenable aluminum alloys show high specific strength, good thermal and electrical conductivity as well as lightness, and are typical aircraft materials. High fatigue strength and good resistancy against stress corrosion cracking are also important for aircraft aluminum alloys. Al alloy 7050 has been developed to meet the above mentioned requirements and the use of this alloy as forged aircraft part becomes more important. However, forged 7050 parts showed undersirable structures such as severe local grain coarsening in surface area and unproper metal flow that is degrading mechanical properties. In this paper, microstructural aspects of die forging in the Al alloy 7050 are investigated. Also suggested are the optimal forging conditions for microstructural control of Al alloy 7050.
Several oxide (ZrO2, Al2TiO5, reactive Al2O3) and nonoxide (SiC, Si3N4, "ALON" (5AlN.9Al2O3)) additives were used as a microfiller for alumina based LCC (Low-Cement-Castable). High temperature prooperties (HMOR, softening under load) and the phase changes of developed LCC on various sintering temperatures were examined. In addition, thermal shock test and corrosion test were accomplished. Based on these data the effects of each microfiller on the properties of LCC were established comparing to those of the commercial LCC with amorphous silica as a microfiller. The castables, containing reactive alumina, ZrO2 and "ALON" (5AlN.9Al2O3) as a first portion, exhibited considerably higher HMOR-values over 100$0^{\circ}C$, better creep behavior, and thermal shock resistance than those of castables with amorphous silica. The LCC with 5% Al2TiO5 showed no corrosion against molten aluminum.nst molten aluminum.

The electrochemical performance and microstructure of Al-Si, Al-Si/C was investigated as anode for lithium ion battery. The Al-Si nano composite with 5 : 1 at% ratio was prepared by arc-discharge nano powder process. However, some of problem is occurred, when Al nano composite was synthesized by this manufacturing. The oxidation film is generated around Al-Si particles for passivating processing in the manufacture. The oxidation film interrupts electrical chemistry reaction during lithium ion insertion/extraction for charge and discharge. Because of the existence the oxidation film, Al-Si first cycle capacity is very lower than other examples. Therefore, carbon synthsized by glucose ($C_6H_{12}O_6$) was conducted to remove the oxidation film covered on the composite. The results showed that the first discharge cycle capacity of Al-Si/C is improved to 113mAh/g comparing with Al-Si (18.6mAh/g). Furthermore, XRD data and TEM images indicate that $Al_4C_3$ crystalline exist in Al-Si/C composite. In addition the Si-Al anode material, in which silicon is more contained was tested by same method as above, it was investigated to check the anode capacity and morphology properties in accordance with changing content of silicon, Si-Al anode has much higher initial discharge capacity(about 500mAh/g) than anode materials based on Aluminum as well as the morphology properties is also very different with the anode based Aluminum.
The formation of the Fe-Al inhibition layer in hot-dip galvanizing is a confusing issue for a long time. This study presents a characterization result on the inhibition layer formed on C-Mn-Cr and C-Mn-Si dual-phase steels after a short time galvanizing. The samples were annealed at $800^{\circ}C$ for 60 s in $N_{2}$-10% $H_{2}$ atmosphere with a dew point of $-30^{\circ}C$, and were then galvanized in a bath containing 0.2 %Al. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) was employed for characterization. The TEM electron diffraction shows that only $Fe_{2}Al_{5}$ intermetallic phase was formed. No orientation relationship between the $Fe_{2}Al_{5}$ phase and the steel substrate could be identified. Two peaks of Al 2p photoelectrons, one from metallic aluminum and the other from $Al^{3+}$ ions, were detected in the inhibition layer, indicating that the layer is in fact a mixture of $Fe_{2}Al_{5}$ and $Al_{2}O_{3}$. TEM/EDS analysis verifies the existence of $Al_{2}O_{3}$ in the boundaries of $Fe_{2}Al_{5}$ grains. The nucleation of $Fe_{2}Al_{5}$ and the reduction of the surface oxide probably proceeded concurrently on galvanizing, and the residual oxides prohibited the heteroepitaxial growth of $Fe_{2}Al_{5}$.
To precipitate the complex gel of flux and aluminum hydroxides gel, aqueous solution of the mixture of $Na_2CO_3\;and\;Na_2PO_4{\cdot}12H_2O$ was added with stirring in aqueous solution of the mixture of $Al_2(SO_4)_3{\cdot}14{\sim}18H_2O,\;Na_2SO_4$, and then the complex gel was aged in $0{\sim}30h\;at\;90^{\circ}C$. As aging time passed, the aluminum hydroxides was grown into the acicular AlO(OH) gel. Also, aging time had an effect on physical properties of the AlO(OH) gel and on crystal growth of the flaky ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ prepared by molten-salt precipitation. In this study, the complex gel was crystallized in temperature range of $400{\sim}1,200^{\circ}C$ after drying at $110^{\circ}C$, and then it was investigated to effect of aging time on precipitation temperature, size, thickness, morphology and particle size distribution of the flaky ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ crystal. As aging time passed, the flaky a${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ crystal showed a tendency toward an increase in size and thickness as result from an increase in BET surface area and pore volume of the acicular AlO(OH) gel.
The effects of minor additives on the casting properties of AC4A aluminum alloys were investigated. Measurements of the cooling curve and microstructure observations were conducted to analyze the effects of Ti-B and Sr minor elements during the solidification process. A fine grain size and an increase in the crystallization temperature for the ${\alpha}-Al$ solution were evident after the addition of 0.1wt% Al-5%Ti-1%B additive. The modification effect of the eutectic $Mg_2Si$ phase with the addition of 0.05% Al-10%Sr additive was prominent. A fine eutectic $Mg_2Si$ phase and a decrease in the growth temperature of the eutectic $Mg_2Si$ phase were evident. Fluidity, shrinkage and solidification-cracking tests were conducted to evaluate the castability of the alloy. The combined addition of Al-5%Ti-1%B and Al-10%Sr additives showed the maximum filling length owing to the effect of the fine ${\alpha}-Al$ grains. The macro-shrinkage ratio increased, while the micro-shrinkage ratio decreased with the combined addition of Al-5%Ti-1%B and Al-10%Sr additives. The macro-shrinkage ratio was nearly identical, while the micro-shrinkage ratio increased with the addition of the Al-10%Sr additive. The tendency of the occurrence of solidification cracking decreased owing to the effect of the fine ${\alpha}-Al$ grains and the modification of the $Mg_2Si$ phase with the combined addition of Al-5%Ti-1%B and Al-10%Sr additives.
