도포-열분해법을 이용한 비대칭 세라믹 분리막 제조 (Preparation of Asymmetric Ceramic Membrane by Coating-Pyrolysis Process)

  • 입도가 다른 두 가지 고순도 ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ 분말을 이용하여 slip casting법과 담금코팅(dip coating)법으로 다공질 알루미나 지지체와 중간층을 각각 제조하였으며, 그 위에 분리막인 산화티탄($Tio_2$)층을 Ti-naphthenate용액으로 screen printing한 후 열분해시켜 형성시킴으로써, 3층 구조의 비대칭성 세라믹 분리막을 제조하였다. 알루미나 지지체의 곡강도, 기공율 및 평균 기공크기는 각각 231 Kg/$cm^2$, 30.26%, 0.19 ${mu}m$였으며, 중간층은 두께가 약 30 ${mu}m$, 평균 기공크기가 0.063 ${mu}m$였다. 또한 최상층 $Tio_2$ 분리막은 그 두께가 약 0.5 ${mu}m$였으며 평균 약 20 nm 정도의 미세 기공들이 매우 균일하게 형성되어 있었다.

  • ${\gamma}-alumina$ membranes were prepared by sol-gel dip coating or pressurized coating of boehmite sols on slipcasted ${\gamma}-alumina$ support tubes. The particle size of sols synthesized via the modified Yoldas-method could be controlled below 5 mn according to the mole ratio of nitric acid/aluminumtri-sec-butoxide (0.07~1.0). The reproducible crack-free composite membranes were produced by the 2nd dip coating or the pressurized coating technique using very stable sols with the particle size of 45 nm. Nitrogen gas permeability through the top-layer in the composite membrane was about $70~55{\times}10^{-7}\;mol/m^2{\cdot}s{\cdot}Pa$. The thermal stability of the top layer was proved to be good enough upto the heat-treatment temperature of $500^{\circ}C$.

고Alumina질 다공성 세라믹스의 내열충격성 및 내Slag성 (기공크기에 따른) (Thermal Spalling and Resistance to Slag Attack in Porous High Alumina Ceramic (According to Pore Size))

  • The investigation was carried out to study the behaviors of the pore size and porosity, the mechanical strength, the resistance to thermal spallings and slag attacks according to particle sizes of starting raw materials in porous high Alumina ceramics. This porous ceramics have been used in processing of the clean steel by the blowing of the inert gas. The required properties in the practice are the suitable pores size, the sharp pores distribution for a uniform blowing of the gas, the strong corrosion resistance to slags and molten metals and the resistance to thermal spalling. The optimized properties in porous high alumina ceramics of the specimen No. 3 was found to be the very low slag intrusion and the superior resistance to thermal spalling because of the suitable pore size of 2.5${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, the porosity of 30% and the high sinterability.

Alumina/graphite 복합체의 마찰마모 특성 (Tribological Properties of Alumina/Graphite Composites)

  • The tribological properties of ceramics are very important in the application to engineering ceramic parts such as seal rings, pump parts, thread guides, and so on. In this study, the effects of graphite addition on the mechanical and tribological properties of alumina/graphite composites were investigated. The composites were prepared by the adding of graphite powder to the mixture of Al2O3, talc and calcium carbonate. Bending strength, water absorption, friction coefficient, the amount of worn out material at a certain time, and maximum surface roughness(Rmax) of the prepared composites were measured. Crystalline phases and microstructure were examined with XRD and SEM. The melt of Al2O3-CaO-MgO-SiO2 system was shown over 10 vol% graphite composition. As the amount of the graphite is increased, needle like crystals of mullite were formed and grown. We obtained the good properties of friction coefficients and wear resistance at the powder composition containing 15 vol% of graphite.

$80Al_2O_3-20Al$ 복합재료의 내열충격성: 실험과 유한요소 해석 (Thermal Shock Resistance of $80Al_2O_3-20Al$ Composites: Experiments and Finite Element Analysis)

  • Thermal shock resistance of 80Al2O3-20Al composite and monolithic alumina ceramics was compared. Fracture strength was measured by using a 4-pont bending test after quenching. Thermal stresses of the ceramics and ceramic-metal composites were calculated using a finite element analysis. The bending strength of the Al2O3 ceramics decreased catastropically after quenching from 20$0^{\circ}C$ to $0^{\circ}C$. The bending strength of the composite also decreased after quenching from 200~2$25^{\circ}C$, but the strength reduction was much smaller than for Al2O3. The maximum thermal stress occured in the monolithic alumina ceramics when exposed to a temperature difference of 20$0^{\circ}C$ was 0.758 GPa. The same amount of stress occured in the Al2O3-Al composite when the temperature difference of 205$^{\circ}C$ used.

Propylene Hydrogenation over Cubic Pt Nanoparticles Deposited on Alumina

  • Pt nanoparticles loaded on alumina through an impregnation at room temperature was prepared using $K_2PtCl_4$ and acrylic acid as capping material. Transmission electron microscopy showed that the deposited Pt particles indicate ca. 80% cubic shapes with a narrow distribution of 8-10 nm in size. Propylene hydrogenation over the catalyst has been carried out to evaluate their catalytic performance by the values of activation energy. It is determined from the initial rate, reaction order, and rate constant and is found to be $9.7{\pm}0.5$ kcal/mol. This value has been discussed by comparing to those of encapsulated- and truncated octahedral Pt nanoparticles deposited on alumina, respectively, to study influence of the particle size and shape, and capping material used on the activation energy.

  • In this study, unsintered and pre-sintered low purity alumina ceramics were machined with various tools to clarify the machinability, optimum tool materials and optimum cutting conditions. The main conclusions obtained were as follows. (1)In the case of dry cutting, the sintered diamond and natural diamond tools exhibit better performance in machining of the ceramic pre-sintered at lower temperature, and the tool lives of both tools in machining the ceramics pre-sintered at high temperature becomes extremely short. (2)The performance of CBN tool becomes better in dry machining of the ceramics pre-sintered at higher temperature. (3)When the pre-sintered ceramics were wet machined with sintered diamond, the tool life becomes considerably long, and higher cutting speed can be used than in the case of the CBN and ceramic tools, the tool lives becomes shorter at wet cutting than at dry cutting, especially exhibiting extremely short tool life in wet cutting with ceramic tool.

금형온도와 탈지조건이 사출성형에 의한 알루미나 부품 제조에 미치는 영향 (EFfect of Molding Temperature and Debinding Conditions on Fabrication of Alumina Component by Injection Molding)

  • Alumina powder was coated with stearic acid and then mixed with isotactic polypropylene, atactic polypropylene as binders at 15$0^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours. The mixture was then injection molded at various mold temperatures using injection molding machine to investigate the effect of the molding temperature and debinding parameters on the formation of the defects. The molded specimens were debinded in both air and nitrogen atmospheres. Wicking and solvent methods were also used to enhance debinding efficiency. The specimens were prefired at 120$0^{\circ}C$ and then sintered at 150$0^{\circ}C$ for 3 hours. Various defects were formed at mold temoperature of 3$0^{\circ}C$, 6$0^{\circ}C$ and 10$0^{\circ}C$ and any noticeable defect was not formed at 85$^{\circ}C$. The density of green body increased with mold temperature. Debinding in air atmosphere was more effective than in nitrogen atmosphere. Results also proved that wicking and solvent treatments helped minimize the number of defects.

  • In this experimental investigation, various plasma-sprayed zirconia contained coatings and a kind of alumina-zirconia coating were studied to gain a better understanding of their tribological behaviour under dry contact condition in a reciprocating motion at temperature of 200℃. Particular attention was made for finding appropriate coatings in cylinder liner/piston ring application with an emphasis on the antiwear property. In order to identify the wear mechanism, SEM(Scanning Electron Microscope), optical micrograph, and roughness tester were used. Alumina-zirconia and 8% yttria-zirconia were found to be most appropriate for the application to the cylinder liner/piston ring and, especially, alumina-zirconia exhibited highest wear-resistance and also showed good friction characteristics. Wear mechanisms of ceramic coatings identified.

Glaze Development with Application of Unity Molecular Formula

  • Effects of compositions and sintering conditions on glaze properties are shown in the diagram constructed by using the unity molecular formula (UMF) method in this study. Glossy characteristics of glaze were clearly differentiated by compositional area in the diagram and sintering process. As alumina and silica contents were increased, texture of the glaze became rough and opaque, akin to having been devitrified or underfired. The correlation between glossiness and surface roughness was found to be non-linear and inversely proportionate. Crystalline phases formed in the glaze were also influenced by the compositional area. Due to the high concentration of CaO, anorthite and wollastonite were formed depending on the compositions. Hardness was increased with an increase of alumina and silica concentrations in the glaze.
