The popularity of Ni-Cr-Mo based metal alloys for metal-ceramic crown have increased recently because of low price, superior yield strength and rigidity. the use of these alloys give them the potential advantage of thinner copping with the required rigidity for long span bridges. The purpose of this study was to assess the microstructures and mechanical properties of Ni-Cr-Mo-(Si,Al,Nb,Zr,Ti.Cu,Mm) based Alloys not containing beryllium(Be) related toxic effects. The abtained results indicated that as-cast these specimen alloys showed compositional and microstructural differences, and mechanical properties values of Ni69Cr20Mo5Si2Al4 alloy among these specimen alloys was found to be superior to those of commercial Ni-Cr based alloy using in market place today.
The effect of the initial packing structure on the plasticity of amorphous alloys was investigated by tracing the structural evolution of the amorphous solid inside a shear band. According to the molecular dynamics simulations, the structural evolution of the amorphous solids inside the shear band was more abrupt in the alloy with a higher initial packing density. Such a difference in the structural evolution within the shear band observed from the amorphous alloys with different initial packing density is believed to cause different degrees of shear localization, providing an answer to the fundamental question of why amorphous alloys show different plasticity. We clarify the structural origin of the plasticity of bulk amorphous alloys by exploring the microstructural aspects in view of the structural disordering, disorder-induced softening, and shear localization using molecular dynamics simulations based on the recently developed MEAM (modified embedded atom method) potential.
Recently, consumption of magnesium alloys has increased especially in the 3C (computer, communication, camera) and automobile industries. The structural application of magnesium alloys has many advantages due to their low densities, high specific strength, excellent damping and anti-eletromagnetic properties, and easy recycling. However, practical application of these alloys has been limited to narrow uses of mild condition, because they are inferior in corrosion resistance and wear resistance due to their high chemical reactivity and low hardness. Various wet and dry processes are being used or are under development to enhance alloy surface properties. Various conversion coating and anodizing methods have been developed in a view of eco-friendly concept. The conventional technologies, such as diffusion coating, sol-gel coating, hydrothermal treatment, and organic coating, are expected to be newly applicable to magnesium alloys. Surface treatments for metallic luster or coloring are suggested using the control of the micro roughness. This report reviews the recent R&D trends and achievements in surface treatment technologies for magnesium alloys.
A solid-HDDR characteristics of the Nd-Fe-B-type alloys magnetic properties of the solid-HDDR treated materials have been investigated using three types of alloys; $Nd_{15}Fe_{77}B_8 (alloy A), Nd_{16}Fe_{75.9}B_8Zr_{0.1}(alloy B), and Nd_{12.6}Fe_{68.7}Co_{11.6}B_8Ga_{1.0}Zr_{0.1} $(alloy C). It has been found that the four-components alloy B and six-components alloy C have showed higher hydrogenation temperatures than the ternary alloy A. The alloys A and B appeared to absorb more hydrogen gas more rapidly as well compared to the alloy C. The disproportionation temperature of hydrogenated materials was exhibited no significant difference among the alloys. The thermal stability of the hydrided materials of the three types of alloys was found to become more stable in order of number of components. The disproportionation and the recombination kinetics were significantly sluggish in the solid-HDDR manner with respect to the conventional manner. Some degree of anisotropic nature was found to exist in the ingot and this anisotropic nature was retained even after the solid-HDDR treatment. It was suggested the solid-HDDR treatment may possibly be used for a preparation of an isotropic or anisotropic Nd-Fe-B-type cast magnets.
Fe-Cr alloys with different Cr contents were prepared by an arc melting technique. The alloys were isochronally aged in the range from $400^{\circ}C$ to $900^{\circ}C$ with $50^{\circ}C$ steps with a holding time of 100 hours. The ageing produced embrittlement in the alloys due to either the formation of a Cr-rich ${\alpha}'$ phase or a $\sigma$ phase at high temperatures. Magnetic Hysteresis Loop (MHL) and Micro-Vickers hardness were measured at each step to correlate the magnetic and mechanical properties. Coercivity and hardness of the alloys were increased and remanence decreased up to 500-$550^{\circ}C$ due to formation of a Cr-rich ${\alpha}'$ phase. Beyond 500-$550^{\circ}C$ range, the coercivity and hardness decreased and remanence increased due to the coarsening or dissolution of the Cr-rich ${\alpha}'$ phase. In the Fe-48% Cr alloy, formation of the $\sigma$ phase at $700^{\circ}C$ reduced the maximum induction of the alloy significantly.

Lanthanum oxide was introduced to molybdenum powder by liquid-liquid doping and liquid-solid doping respectively. Mo alloys were prepared by powder metallurgy technology. The size distribution and feature of dopant particles and the fractographs of Mo alloys were investigated by TEM and SEM respectively. The results indicated that liquid-liquid doping method is favorable for refining and dispersing $La_2O_3$ particles uniformly in matrix. Fracture toughness of Mo alloys prepared by liquid-liquid doping showed better results than that of liquid-solid doping. Furthermore, the influences of the size distribution of $La_2O_3$ on properties of Mo alloys was discussed by dislocation pile-up theory.
Chromium, molybdenum. and nitrogen are very important alloying elements in stainless steels and its effect was approved in pitting resistance equivalent (PRE) equations and many experimental results. However, Cr can improve the corrosion resistance, but facilitate the formation of sigma phase. Also. Mo has the same effect in stainless steels. If Cr and Mo are added at high amount to increase the corrosion resistance of stainless steel, corrosion resistance in annealed alloys can be improved, but in case of welding or aging heat treatment. its resistance will be drastically decreased. In this work, increasing Cr and N contents but decreasing Mo than the commercial alloys made the experimental alloys. Typical alloys are 25Cr-4.5Mo-0.43N alloy, 27Cr-4.7Mo-0.4N alloy, 27Cr-5.3Mo-0.25N alloy, 32Cr-2.6Mo-0.36N alloy. After annealing and aging heat treatment, microstructures, anodic polarization test, and pitting corrosion test were performed. Annealed alloys showed $100^{\circ}C$ of CPT and aged alloys showed the different tendency depending upon Cr and Mo contents(SFI)
Electrochemical potentiokinetic reactivation (EPR) tests are used to evaluate the degree of sensitization (DOS) of stainless steels and nickel base alloys. The validity of EPR test to detect DOS of these alloys, however, depends all the electrolyte composition employed. The existence of precipitates such as NbC, and TiC, etc. in the alloys also affects the reactivation behaviors of these alloys. In this investigation, the reactions involved during EPR processes are analyzed. In 0.5 M $H_2SO_4$+ 0.01 M KSCN electrolyte, a reactivation peak associated with the localized attack around NbC, different from that of intergranular corrosion, is observed for the solution annealed 347 SS. For solution annealed Alloy 600, matrix corrosion and localized attack around TiC with distinct anodic peaks appeared in the EPR curves are seen in the $H_2SO_4$+ KSCN electrolyte. With proper adjustment of elect rolyte composition, the contribution from intergranular corrosion, as a result of chromium carbide precipitation along the grain boundaries, can be distingui shed from the matrix and localized corrosion for the sensitized Alloy 600.
The corrosion of silver amalgam is regarded as one of major causes in the failures of dental amalgam restorations. To evaluate the corrosion resistance of dental amalgam alloys, electrochemical tests such as potential and polarization measurement were used widely. But these commonly used methods have not provided the sufficient informations on relative resistance of amalgam to corrosion. In this experiment, the corrosion currents were measured using electronic potentiostat to compare some commercial dental amalgam alloys. All alloys were triturated in a amalgamator and condensed into a mold described in A.D.A. Specification No. 1 to produce cylinder form specimens of 4mm diameter by 5mm long. After specimen kept for 1 week at $37^{\circ}C$, each specimen was embedded in epoxy resin. The surfaces of specimens were then polished with a emery paper, diamond dust, and $Al_2O_3$. These specimens were immersed in artifical saliva kept at $37^{\circ}C$, and currents of each specimen were measured for 24 hours at 0.0volt (SCE). The author obtained conclusions as follows: 1. High copper amalgam showed superior resistance against corrosion to conventional amalgam, but a pellet form of high copper amalgam seemed to be susceptible to corrosion. 2. In lathe-cut alloys, fine-cut had superior resistance against corrosion to regular-cut. 3. Non-zinc conventional amalgam alloys were more resistant to corrosion than that of zinc containing conventional amalgam alloys. 4. In both of high copper and conventional amalgams, predispensed forms tended to have better resisitance to corrosion than that of pellet forms.
The main objectives were to investigate the suitability of CaO crucible for melting TiAl alloys and to develop investment mold for investment casting of TiAl alloys. TiAl alloy specimen were prepared by plasma arc furnace under argon atmosphere. After melting of TiAl alloy using CaO crucible, the results showed that there is little contamination of oxygen in the TiAl bulk. Conventional vacuum induction furnaces can be readily adaptable to produce cast parts of TiAl without high skilled techniques. The determination of optical metallography and microhardness profiles in investment cast TiAl alloy rods has allowed the gradation of the relative thermal stability of the oxides examined. The molds used for the present study were $ZrO_2$, $Al_2O_3$, CaO stabilized $ZrO_2$ and $ZrSiO_4$. Even although high temperature of mold preheating, $Al_2O_3$ mold is a promising mold material for investment casting of TiAl alloys in terms of thermal stability, cost and handling strength. It is important to take thermal stability and preheating temperature of mold into consideration for investment casting of TiAl alloys.
