The vibration and buckling characteristics of the capsule for fuel irradiation test are studied. The natural frequencies of the capsule in air and under water are obtained by modal testing and finite element (FE) analysis using ANSYS program, and accelerations with flow are measured to estimate the compatibility with the operation requirement of the HANARO reactor. The experimental fundamental frequencies of the capsule in the x and z direction are 8.5 Hz and 8.75 Hz in air, and 7.5 Hz and 7.75 Hz under water, respectively. The maximum amplitude of accelerations under the normal operating condition is measured as 11.0 m/s$^2$ that is within the allowable vibrational limit(18.99 m/s$^2$) of the reactor structure. Also, the maximum displacement at 100% flow is calculated as 0.13 mm which is not interference with other nearby structures. FE analysis results show that the natural frequencies are found to be similar to those of the modal testing when three supporting parts are considered as simply supported conditions. From the buckling analysis, when the loading tool is applied, the critical buckling load of the capsule is 233 N.
Recent severe earthquakes in and around the vital public places worldwide indicate the severe vulnerability of ground excitation to be assailed. Reducing the effect of seismic lateral load in structural design is an important conception. Essentially, seismic isolation is required to shield the superstructure in such a way that the building superstructure would not move when the ground is shaking. This study explores the effectiveness, design, and practical feasibility of base isolation systems to reduce seismic demands on buildings of varying elevations. Thus, static and dynamic analyses were conducted based on site-specific bi-directional earthquakes for base-isolated as well as fixed-based buildings. Remarkably, it was discovered that isolators used in low-rise to high-rise structures tend to significantly decrease the structural responses of seismic prone buildings. The higher allowable horizontal displacement induces structural flexibility and ensure good structural health of the building stories. Reinforcement from vertical and horizontal members can be reduced in significant amounts for BI buildings. Thus, although incorporating base isolators increases the initial outlay, it considerably diminishes the total structural cost.

On large-scale data analysis platforms deployed on cloud infrastructures over the Internet, the instability of the data transfer time and the dynamics of the processing rate require a more sophisticated data distribution scheme which maximizes parallel efficiency by achieving the balanced load among participated computing elements and by eliminating the idle time of each computing element. In particular, under the constraints that have the real-time and limited data buffer (in-memory storage) are given, it needs more controllable mechanism to prevent both the overflow and the underflow of the finite buffer. In this paper, we propose an auto regulated data provisioning model based on receiver-driven data pull model. On this model, we provide a synchronized data replenishment mechanism that implicitly avoids the data buffer overflow as well as explicitly regulates the data buffer underflow by adequately adjusting the buffer resilience. To estimate the optimal size of buffer resilience, we exploits an adaptive buffer resilience control scheme that minimizes both data buffer space and idle time of the processing elements based on directly measured sample path analysis. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme provides allowable approximation compared to the numerical results. Also, it is suitably efficient to apply for such a dynamic environment that cannot postulate the stochastic characteristic for the data transfer time, the data processing rate, or even an environment where the fluctuation of the both is presented.
Preflex composit girder is intended for a better use on both steel and concrete by introducting prestress into the lower flange concrete with preflection. In Korea, recently preflex bridges are widely used especially for urban construction but the design method depends on the conventional ASD(Allowable Stress Design). This paper suggests an optimization model for the design of preflex composite bridges based on LIFD(Load Resistance Factor Design). The optimization algorithm adopted for the NLP model proposed in the paper is the FTM(Flexible Tolerance Method) which is very efficient for the approximate continuous optimization. For the discrete optimum results, a pesudo discrete optimization is used for the economical round-up to the available dimensions. The economic effectiveness of optimum design based on the LRFD method is investigation by comparing the results with those of the ASD method. Based on applications to the actual design examples, it may be concluded that the optimization model suggested in the paper provides economical but reliable design. And the suggested in the paper provides economical but reliable design. And the computer code for the automatic optimum design of preflex bridges developed in the paper for a CAD system may be successfully used in practice.
Recently, much power demand from domestic power consumer is weakening the allowable power reserve margin in summer, especially at midday for one day due to a steep increase of air cooling loads such as air conditioner. Therefore solar airconditioning system can'be considered as one of the best remedies to meet the increase of peak power. Generally in solar air conditioning system, the diode rectifier is used to build up DC link voltage from AC source. The diode rectifier is simple and cheap but it brings out the problems of low power factor and plentiful harmonics at the AC source. Also It can derate the utilization rate of solar energy because the reverse of power flow cannot be made. Hence, in this paper to overcome the peak power problem in summer and to endure good AC input characteristics, solar air conditioning system using the PWM converter is proposed. As results, obtained are the characteristics of the PWM converter such as low distorted current waveform, high power factor and bidirectional power control. And also the stability of proposed system is verified by examining the dynamics of step load change and power reversal testing. (author). refs., figs., tabs.
Seismic qualification of the Air Cleaning Units for nuclear power plant Ulchin 5&6 has been performed with the guideline of ASME Section III and IEEE 344 code. By using the structural and geometrical similarity analysis, the three models to be analyzed is condensed into a single model and, at the same time, the excitation forces and other operating loads for each model are encompassed with respect to different loading conditions. As the fundamental frequencies of the structure are found to be less than 33Hz, which is the upper frequency limit of the seismic load, response spectrum analysis using ANSYS is performed in order to combine the modal stresses within the frequency limit. In order to confirm the structural and electric stability of the major components, modal analysis theory is adopted to derive the required response spectrum at the component locations. As the all combined stresses obtained from the above procedures are less than allowable stresses and no mechanical or electrical failures are found from the seismic testing, the authors confirm the safety of the nuclear equipments Air Cleaning Units studied in this paper.
A pneumatic system was proposed to evaluate displacement accuracy of the pneumatic actuator without external load and to analyze capability of integration of the proposed valve system. The proposed pneumatic system consisted of a combination of pneumatic valves, two proximity sensors, and a programmable logic controller(PLC). The position controller is based on the PLC controller connected with the proximity sensors. Displacement accuracy of the pneumatic cylinder stroke was tested by varying air pressures of the supply and discharge-side and strokes of the pneumatic cylinder. The displacement accuracy of the pneumatic cylinder stroke increased as the supply and discharge side of air pressure increased at the stroke length of 133mm. Also the displacement accuracy increased as the stroke length increased with a fixed supply and discharge side of air pressure of the pneumatic cylinder as 3.5 and $4.5kg/cm^2$, respectively. The most accurate displacement of the pneumatic cylinder(i.e., standard deviation of 0.01 mm) was obtained at the supply and discharge side of air pressure of 4.0 and $5.0kg/cm^2$, respectively, and strokes of 170 and 190 mm among arbitrarily selected supply and discharge side air pressures and strokes.
This study, in order for perceiving the mechanical attribute followed by the explosive spalling of high strength concrete material under high temperature and evaluating capacity of endurance of material, targets understanding capacity of endurance of material such as explosive spalling in high temperature, temperature by thickness of clothing, transformation extent, transformation speed and displacement, stocking the maximum load based on the Allowable Stress Design Method. As a result of experimenting the explosive spalling attribute of high strength concrete material, the one possibly causing serious damage is the 50 MPa concrete. In all aspects of 60 MPa concrete, explosive spalling happens. Especially, it is hazardous enough to reveal all the iron bar. All explosive spalling is intensively concentrated on the surface of concrete for the first $5{\sim}25$ minutes, which urges for the explosive spalling protection action. As a result of evaluating the structural safety by the transformation of high strength concrete, while beam assures the fire safety meeting regulation, 60 MPa shows the dramatic increase of transformation, which only counts 84% of safety. In a column, both the concrete exclusion and excessive explosive spalling are concentrated upper part of column, which brings about the dramatic transformation, so it only meets the 50% of safety regulation. Likewise, in 80, 100 MPa concrete which was never experimented considering the condition of domestic structural endurance stocking devices, the faster collapse is expected.
This paper describes a formulation to predict optimum post-tensioning forces and cable dimensioning for self-anchored cable-stayed suspension bridges. The analysis is developed with respect to both dead and live load configurations, taking into account design constrains concerning serviceability and ultimate limit states. In particular, under dead loads, the analysis is developed with the purpose to calculate the post-tensioning cable forces to achieve minimum deflections for both girder and pylons. Moreover, under live loads, for each cable elements, the lowest required cross-section area is determined, which verifies prescriptions, under ultimate or serviceability limit states, on maximum allowable stresses and bridge deflections. The final configuration is obtained by means of an iterative procedure, which leads to a progressive definition of the stay, hanger and main cable characteristics, concerning both post-tensioning cable stresses and cross-sections. The design procedure is developed in the framework of a FE modeling, by using a refined formulation of the bridge components, taking into account of geometric nonlinearities involved in the bridge components. The results demonstrate that the proposed method can be easily utilized to predict the cable dimensioning also in the framework of long span bridge structures, in which typically more complexities are expected in view of the large number of variables involved in the design analysis.
