Here are shown on stress and vibration evaluations and application of piping system in petrochemical plant with and actual example. While stress evaluation by thermal growth has no argument on the calculated results, vibrational evaluations have some different results in accordance with the evaluation methods. In case of the static stress evaluation the ASME B3l.3 code defines 7000 cycles of fatigue lift: in operating the piping system with a design condition. However, the method of vibrational evaluation on piping systems in petrochemical plants has not been established clearly, yet. In this stuffy, it is purposed to present the requirement of a vibrational evaluation method for petrochemical plant piping system, with an actual application.
Six models of operator seat supplied to local tractor manufacturers were tested in the laboratory in accordance with ISO 5007 and 78/764/EEC. No models out of the six met the allowable damping and transmissibility performance criteria of both ISO 5007 and 78/764/EEC. From the ISO criterion standpoint, one model failed in damping performance and 4 models in isolation performance. From the 78/764/EEC criterion standpoint, 4 models failed in damping performance and 4 models in isolation performance. However none of them failed in all of the criteria, either. Each model met the one acceptance criterion but failed in another. This indicated that operator seat must be improved to meet the current ISO 5007 or 78/764/EEC and the exposure limit value that will be enforced in EU tractor market from 2014 by EU Directive 2002/44 EC.
As a rotating machine element, plastic gears are more and more widely used in such as industrial machine element, since plastic gear is lighter, higher wear-resistance, and higher vibration absorbing ability than metal gears. When operating plastic parts, tooth breakage and fatigue life shortened due to increasing number of applying load and tooth flank temperature rising, such that accuracy of plastic gears is divided from allowable range to cause vibration and noise. On this study, a internal plastic gears are developed which improved the filling balance molding process by a new injection mold structure. The new mold structure called HR3P(hot runner type 3plate mold). As the result from this studies, we obtained a very accurate roundness internal gears by using design of experiment.
This research is to investigate the performance of a flexible matrix composite driveshaft with respect to shaft design parameters such as the number of layers, ply orientations, and material properties. A finite element formulation is utilized to estimate the allowable misalignment under given driving torque, the maximum temperature at steady states, and external damping for ensuring whirling stability under supercritical speed. Results indicate that the system performance can be greatly affected by the shaft laminate parameters, especially the ply orientations. Several sets of shaft parameters that will provide satisfactory overall system performance are derived.
The characteristics of refrigerator noise recorded in anechoic chamber was investigated in condition of a the real living room and a kitchen. To predict the noise propagation in an apartment unit, room acoustic simulation software was used. It was found that the noise level in the real living room was $4\sim8dB$ higher than in the anechoic chamber. When a noise barrier and absorption materials were used on the rear wall and floor, the noise level reduced up to $3\sim4dB$. In addition, when the subjective evaluation of auralized refrigerator noise was undertaken using headphone, it was revealed that 21dB (A) is the allowable sound pressure level of 95% satisfaction.
A 600HP class high-speed gear driven 3-stage turbo-compressor (IGCC : Integrally Geared Centrifugal Compressor) driven by a 3600 rpm AC induction motor has been designed, of which low speed pinion runs at 35000 rpm and high speed pinion at 50000 rpm nominally. Due to its high speed operation, the system requires very reliable bearing selection and design as well as accurate rotordynamic analysis and prediction of its dynamic behavior to secure the operating reliability. Rotordaynamic analyses of the IGCC rotor-bearing system predicted that the low speed pinion rotor mounted on 5-pad tilting pad bearings has two critical speeds before its design speed and high speed pinion rotor only one critical speed, and estimated critical speeds of both pinion shafts are away from the continuous operating speed enough to satisfy the corresponding API requirement. The forced response analysis with API specified maximum allowable unbalances also showed that unbalance responses are small enough for smooth operation of the system.
Current information storage devices read/write data on the rotating disk. The axial vibration of a rotating disk should be suppressed for the successful operation of the device. Information storage devices widely used in these days adopt relatively thick disk which is stiff enough to suppress axial vibration under allowable limit. However, the thickness of the disk is going to be thinner and thinner as the small form factor of the devices is getting preferred by the consumer. In this study, a stabilizer system, which is composed with 8 air bearings, is proposed for suppressing the axial vibration of a $95{\mu}m$ thick PC disk in a non-contacting manner. The performance of the stabilizer system is simulated by numerical computation and then confirmed its results through a series of experiment. A thin and flexible disk has various vibration modes when it rotates in high speed. The stabilizer system generates positive as well as negative pressure due to the rotation of flexible disk so that the force due to the pressure distribution pushes and pulls rotating disk in a non-contacting manner. The balance between positive and negative pressure forces can be obtained by adjusting the area and the slope of the air bearing surface. The axial vibration of the flexible disk of 120mm diameter is suppressed successfully from over $1000{\mu}m$ to $30{\mu}m$ peak-to-peak value at the rotational speed of 5,000rpm.
Before making a prototype, we predicted the inlet/outlet differential pressure and flow coefficient, which are the most basic design data for the valve through the design and numerical analysis of the trim, which is the most important in the localization development of the 1500Ib high differential pressure control valve used for boiler feed water. As a result, the design value and the analysis value were found to be about 98% similar. The flow field within the fluid velocity of 23m/s to prevent cavitation was also found. The result of the numerical analysis on thermal stress due to the characteristics of valves exposed to high temperatures showed that it was found to be about 18% less than the allowable stress of the bolt fixing the trim. When all loads such as pressure, self-weight, and vibration are applied, however, it is judged to go beyond the currently calculated thermal stress, exceeding the allowable stress.
