Development Plan for the First GMT ASM Reference Body

  • GMT secondary mirror system consists of 7 segmented adaptive mirrors. Each segment consists of a thin shell mirror, actuators and a reference body. The thin shell has a few millimeters of thickness so that it can be easily bent by push and pull force of actuators to compensate the wavefront disturbance of light due to air turbulence. The one end of actuator is supported by the reference body and the other end is adapted to this thin shell. One of critical role of the reference body is to provide the reference surface for the thin shell actuators. Therefore, the reference body is one of key components to succeed in development of GMT ASM. Recently, Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS) and University of Arizona (UA) has signed a contract that they will cooperate to develop the first set of off-axis reference body for GMT ASM. This project started August 2021 and will be finished in Dec. 2022. The reference body has total 675 holes to accommodate actuators and 144 pockets for lightweighting. The rear surface has a curved rib shape with radius of curvature of 4387 mm with offset of 128.32mm. Since this reference body is placed just above the thin shell so that the front surface shape needs to be close to that of thin shell. The front surface has a concave off-axis asphere, of which radius of curvature is 4165.99 mm and off-axis distance is about 1088 mm. The material is Zerodur CTE class 1 (CTE=0.05 ppm/oC) from SCHOTT. All the actuator holes and pockets are machined normal to the front surface. It is a very complex challenging optical elements that involves sophisticated machining process as well as accurate metrology. After finishing the fabrication of reference body in KRISS, it will be shipped to UA for final touches and finally sent to Adoptica in Italy, in early 2023. This paper presets the development plan for the GMT ASM Reference Body and relevant fabrication and metrology plans.

시뮬레이션을 이용한 외부 베네시안 블라인드의 약식 SHGC 계산법 개발 (The Development of the Simple SHGC Calculation Method in Case of a Exterior Venetian Blind Using the Simulation)

  • When it comes to these buildings for business use, cooling load during summertime was reported to have great importance which, as a result, impressively increased interest in Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC). Such SHGC is considered to be lowered with the help of colors and functions of glass itself, internal shading devices, insulation films and others but basically, these external shading devices for initial blocking that would not allow solar heat to come in from outside the buildings are determined to be most effective. Of many different external shading devices, this thesis conducted an analysis on Exterior Venetian Blind. As for vertical shading devices, previous researches already calculated SHGC conveniently using concepts of sky-opening ratios. However in terms of the Venetian Blind, such correlation is not possibly applied. In light of that, in order to extract a valid correlation, this study first introduced a concept called shape factor, which would use the breadth and a space of a shade, before carrying out the analysis. As a consequence, the concept helped this study to find a very similar correlation. Results of the analysis are summarized as follows. (1) Regarding SHGC depending on the surface reflectance of a shade, an average of 2% error is observed and yet, the figure can always be ignored when it comes to a simple calculation. (2) As for SHGC of each bearing, this study noticed deviations of 4% or less and in the end, it is confirmed that extraction can be achieved with no more than one correlation formula. (3) When only the shape factor and nothing else is used for finding a correlation formula, the formula with a deviation of approximately 5% or less is what one would expect. (4) Since the study observed slight differences in bearings depending on ranges of the shape factors, it needed to extract a weighted value of each bearing, and learned that the smaller the shape factor, the wider the range of a weighted value. The study now suggests that a follow-up research to extract a simple calculation formula by dealing with all these various inclined angles of shade, solar radiation conditions of each region (the ratio of diffuse radiation to direct radiation and others) as well as seasonal features should be carried out.

서봉총(瑞鳳塚)·식리총(飾履塚)·금령총(金鈴塚) 출토 행엽(杏葉)의 제작기법 연구 (A Study on the Manufacturing Technique of Horse Strap Pendants excavated from Seobongchong, Sikrichong and Geumryeongchog)

  • 국립중앙박물관에서는 일제 강점기에 발굴된 미정리유물 정리사업의 일환으로 서봉총(瑞鳳塚), 식리총(飾履塚), 금령총(金鈴塚) 출토 행엽(杏葉) 중 일부를 선별하여 보존처리 및 제작기법을 연구하였다. 선별된 행엽은 편원어미형(扁圓魚尾形), 심엽형(心葉形), 이형(異形)으로 구분할 수 있으며 실체현미경관찰 및 XRF, SEM-EDS 분석결과 지판(地板)의 재질은 철(Fe)이며, 상판(上板) 및 문양판의 재질은 철(Fe), 구리(Cu), 은(Ag)이 각각 확인되었다. 편원어미형과 십자문심엽형행엽의 경우 세 분묘 모두 제작기법과 크기가 동일한 행엽이 각각 철(Fe)과 구리(Cu)로 제작된 것이 특징이다. 도금층이 존재하지 않는 이형행엽을 제외한 나머지 행엽의 도금층은 수은아말감도금이었다.

한국의 인체기대 이형흡충류 및 간흡충 충란의 비교형태학적 검토 (Comparative Morphology of Eggs of Heterophyids and Clonorchis sinensis Causing Human Infections in Korea)

  • 우리 나라의 인체기생 이형흡충류(요꼬가와흡충, Heterophyes heterophyes nocens, Stellantchasmus falcatus, Heterophyopsis continua, Pygidiopsis summa) 및 간흡충 충란의.비교형태학적 특징을 관찰함으로써 대편검사에 의한 이들의 진단에 도움이 되도록 하고자 이 연구를 실시하였다. 충란은 감염자를 치료하여 얻은 각 충체의 자궁말단으로부터 분리한 것을 사용하였고 전체적인 외형 및 형태는 물론 길이, 폭 및 길이1폭의 비를 구하여 종별로 비교검토하였다. 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 간흡충 충란은 전단부가 오목한 약간 긴 난원형이며, 길이 $25.3-33.2{\mu}m$(평균 $28.3{\mu}m$), 폭 14.2-17.4 (15.9)${\mu}m$, 길이1폭의 비가 1.60~2.00(1.78)이었다. 이들은 난각에 주름(wrinkling)이 뚜렷한 점에서 관찰한 모든 이형흡충류 충란과 구별되었다. 2. P. summa의 충란은 난원형 또는 서양배 모양이며 관찰한 충란중 가장 작은 점이 특징이었고, 길이 $19.8~22.9(21.6){\;}{\mu}m$, 폭 $11.1~13.4(12.1){\mu}m$, 3 비는 1.63~1.99(1.78)이었다. 3. S. falcatus의 충란은 장란소형이며 가장 길쭉한 형태인 것이 특징이었고, 길이 $25.3~29.2(27,2){\;}{\mu}m$, 폭 $11.1~13.4(12.5){\mu}m$, 비는 2.00~2.57(2.17)이었다. 요꼬가와흡충 충란은 유타원형 또는 타원형이며 양단이 둥근 편이었고, 길이 $26.9~31.6(28.5){\mu}m$, 폭 $14.2~18.2(16.8){\mu}m$, 비는 1.48~2.11 (1.70)이 었다. 5. H. continua 충란은 난형이었고 요꼬가와흡충란이나 H. h. nocens 충란과 비슷한 경우도 많으나 충란의 길이에 비해서 폭이 가장 크고 최대폭이 충란 후반부에 있는 점이 특징적이었으며, 길이 $23.7~27.7(25.0){\mu}m$, 폭 $15.8~15.9(16.4){\mu}m$, 비는 1.33~1.75(1.53)이었다. 6. H. h. nocens의 충란은 유타도형 또는 난원형이나 요꼬가와흡충보다는 다소 덜 팽대되어 있고 양단이 다소 뾰족한 감을 주는 것이 특징이며, 길이 $23.7~29.2(25.7){\mu}m$, 폭 $14.2~15.8(15.4)){\mu}m$, 비는 1.50~2.06(1.67)이었다. 이상의 결과로 볼 때 5종 이형흡충류 및 간흡충 충란은 형태학적으로 서로 감별할 수 있을 것으로 생각되나 많은 수의 충란에 대한 세밀한 관찰과 계측이 요구된다는 것을 알 수 있었다.

한국 성인의 3차원 표준 머리모형 (A Study of Standard Head Model for Korean Adults by 3D Measurement)

  • The purpose of this study were to analyse of craniofacial shape by 3D and to develope of head models for Korean adults with gender and age groups. The 3D measurement technique adapted in this study was a novel approach compared that the same technique has been commonly used in measuring human bodies. The data and the model of head analysis can be used as a basic reference in developing various head related items such as hat, helmet, gas mask, ear phone, and etc. In this study, heads of 836 Korean adults were measured in 3D, analyzed by statistical methods, and modelized in 3D by gender and age groups. From the basic statistical data analysis, vertex-tragion and the length between the pupils were the longest in their twenties for both men and women, and grew shorter in elderly groups. In all categories, a significant difference appeared between men and women in their 20's, but the differences were less noticeable in elderly groups. Compared to the one size standard head model of the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency, the above three-dimensional standard head model would provide a more through fit because gender and age groups were sub-divided and analyzed in 3D.

벼의 무기양분 흡수에 미치는 pH 의 영향 (The Effect of pH on the Mineral Nutrient Uptake in the Rice Seedlings)

  • Absorption pattern of potassium, calcium, phosphate and nitrate ions, and the pH change during ion-absorption at pH 3.0-11.0 by Oryza sativa L. were studied to investigate indirectly the evidence of H^+-efflux by ATPase. The rice seedlings which were grown either in $L^{\circ} -dark or in L^+-sunlight$, were used both in each ion-absorption to compare with one another. The uptake rate of these ions appeared to favor more in $L^+than in L^{\circ}$, over all range in pH, nearly with the same pattern. The absorption of potassium resulted in bell shape and that of calcium increased linearly to the alkali range. The shape of phosphate-absorption showed nearly the t-distribution curve with high value in acid range and the uptake of nitrate resulted in the dual peaks, but higher in acid range. The pH of the external solution changed from the range of 3.5-11.0 to 3.5-7.0 after lhr-absorptioin, and further acidified after 3hr-absorption. It is suggested that the pH change of the external solution be affected by $ H^+-efflux$ which may be caused by the ATP-hydrolysis.

Robust Similarity Retrieval for Radial Distortion of Object Shape Based on the Normalized Phase Angles and Moment

  • In the content-based image search properties, form information is simple because only the contours of objects are available, and although it can effectively extract the characteristics of the objects, it is sensitive to external noise. The radial distortion, one of these noises, is most prominent in the eyewear and, due to the structural characteristics of the imaging equipment, radiative distortion occurs in almost all imaging equipment. It is very important to determine the similarity of the objects in the images in which these distortions occurred to the actual objects. In order to improve this problem, we propose a strong image search technique for formative noise and radiative distortion using regularization phase angles and moments. Through simulation using Wang DB, the proposed algorithm proved excellent performance for radiation distortion that occurs in general. In addition, a system optimized for database can be implemented by making appropriate changes to the threshold values, enabling image retrieval with the desired level of confidence in various systems. The algorithm proposed in this paper is expected to be utilized as an optimal imaging system by extracting morphological form information of multimedia data.

  • Oil-fired power plants usually use several burners and the combustion air is supplied to each burner through the complicated duct which is called windbox. A windbox should be designed to supply combustion air to each burner evenly but, due to the complicated duct shape, flow distribution in the windbox is unbalanced and uneven supplies of combustion air to each burner are induced by these unbalanced flow distribution in the windbox. These flow patterns tend to make flame unstable, increase the formation of pollutants and lower the overall combustion efficiency. To prevent these disadvantages, flow patterns in the windbox should be investigated for the uniform flow distribution. In this study, computational simulation method was used to investigate the flow distribution in the windbox and measured the velocities at the exit of burners in the real windbox to compare with CFD results. The results show two significant flow patterns. One is that the flow rates of each burner are different from each other and this means that all burners operate in different conditions of air to fuel ratio. The other is that the flow distribution at the exit of each burner is not axi-symmetric although the burner shape is axi-symmetric and this increases the pollutant products like CO.

유물을 통해 본 백제 복식의 유형과 특성 (Types and Characteristics of the Baekje Costume Focusing on the Related Relics and Remains)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the historical background and basic composition of costume of the Baekje period. Main official hats of Baekje include the transformed hat, jougwan and daeryun-style ipsikgwan. Daeryun-style ipsikgwan employed chowha shape in most cases, symbolizing good auspice under the harmony of the male and female principles. Main types of costume of the Baekje period are po, yu, go and sang. The king, governmental officials and the common people all put on po of jikryeong gyoim style. Yu' is classified into two styles, chaksu with the narrow sleeve and daesu with the broad one. 'Go' has two styles, gunggo and gwango. The former is narrow in the breadth of the trouser and the latter, wide. 'Sang' is classified into various style according to whether it contains stripes of many colors, thin wrinkles or thick wrinkles. For the decoration of official hat used in the period of the Three Kingdoms, Baekje employed chowha in shape, Kokuryo, chowha and joik and Shilla, joik. In Baekje, rhythmic patterns of flame were applied to official hats, presenting brilliance. In Shilla, shaking geumyeongrak was used for official hats to show movement. In Kokuryo, such hats used flapping feathers, symbolizing dynamic power. Most necklaces and bracelets of the Baekje period were simple and plain.
