  • A series of the long-chain iron(II) alkylsulfonate hydrates were synthesized via self-assembly of surfactant alkyl chains in aqueous medium. Reaction of iron(II) salts with n-alkylsulfonate yields lamellar $Fe(CnH2n+1SO3)2{\cdot}4H_2O$. These compounds show a layered structure, as determined by XRD, consisting of alternating organic alkylsulfonate layers and inorganic iron(II) hydrate layers, with interlayer distances of upto 3.2 nm. This lamellar structure may be attributed to the amphiphilic nature of the surfactants, mediating the coordination and H-bionding interactions, and the hydrophobic alkyl chains. An alkyl chain packing of present system are differ from those of similar Cu(II) series, which are attributed from the size of hydrated metal(II) ions.

  • Electrochemical properties of self-dopable poly(aniline N-butylsulfonate)s in various acidic medium were investigated by spectroelectrochemical techniques. Cyclic voltammetric study showed more than two reversible process of one electron transfer, the potential and peak intensity of which were dependent on the acid concentration and dopant ion. Spectroscopic study at different oxidation level indicated that the electrochromic switching of the poly(aniline N-alkylsulfonate)s film involves structural changes from benzenoid ring to quinoid ring. Spectrocyclic voltammetry together with impedance spectra of the PANBUS film in 0.1 M $LiClO_4$ solution of acetonitrile containing 0.46 M of perchloric acid showed two types of highly conductive states at the intermediate oxidation levels, which can be related to the metallic polaron states doped by two different process.

  • The intercalated compounds of alkylsulfonate into hydrated and dehydrated zinc were synthesized. From the XRD, FT-IR, TGA, elemental analysis data, and the molecular size, the orientation of the intercalated alkylsulfonates was determined. For the hydrated compounds, alkylsulfonates were intercalated into hexaqua zinc layer with the bilayer structure of $32.9^{\circ}$ angle of inclination. For the dehydrated compounds, alkylsulfonates were directly bonded to zinc ion with the bilayer structure of $51.4^{\circ}$ angle of inclination.

  • Antistatic property and crystallization behavior of antistatic poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) were studied by feeding antistatic agents into polycondensation reactor. Glass transition and melting temperature of antistatic PET were decreased by poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) component of antistatic agent. The crystallization rate of antistatic PET was inhibited by decreasing crystallization temperature. Thermal properties and crystallization behavior was affected POAG content of antistatic agent rather than sodium alkylsulfonate of it. The main antistatic component of antistatic agent was POAG. The main role of sodium alkylsulfonate was increasing melt viscosity of antistatic poly(ethylene terephalate) polymer.
