  • The aim of the present study is to investigate some characteristics of concrete according to addition of blast furnace slag and alkali-activator dosages. Blast furnace slag was used at 30%, 50% replacement by weight of cement, and liquid sulfur having NaOH additives was chosen as the alkaline activator. In order to evaluate characteristics of blast furnace slag concrete with sulfur alkali activators, compressive strength test, total porosity, chloride ions diffusion coefficient test were performed. The early-compressive strength characteristics of blast furnace slag concrete using a sulufr-alkali activators was compared with those of reference concrete and added 30, 50% blast furnace slag concrete. Also, Blast furnace slag concrete using sulfur-alkali activators enhanced the total porosity, chloride ions diffusion coefficient than two standard concrete. Alkali-activated blast furnace slag concrete was related to total porosity, compressive strength and chloride ions diffusion coefficient each others. As a result, it should be noted that the sulfur-alkali activators can not only solve the demerit of blast furnace slag concrete but also offer the chloride resistance of blast furnace slag concrete using sulfur alkali activators to normal concrete.

  • The dependence of sulfur redox behavior and its diffusivity on temperature and composition was studied in mixed alkali silicate melts by means of square wave voltammetry (SWV) at different frequencies in a temperature range of $1000^{\circ}C$ to $1400^{\circ}C$. The voltammograms showed two reduction peaks at high frequency but only one peak at low frequency. Irrespective of $K_2O/(Na_2O+K_2O)$, each peak potential due to reduction of $S^{6+}$ to $S^{4+}$ and $S^{4+}$ to $S^0$ moved toward a negative direction with temperature decrease, and the peak current showed a strong dependence on frequency at a constant temperature. However, the compositional dependence of the peak potential showed an inconsistent behavior with an increase of $K_2O$. The mixed alkali effect was not observed in sulfur diffusion. This inconsistency of both peak potential and diffusion for compositional dependence may be derived from the strong volatilization of sulfur in melts.

  • The alkali volatilization of TV screen glass melts with various $K_2$O/R$_2$O mole fraction was investigated by dependence of weight loss on time. The melt conductivity was also determined to evaluate relative alkali diffusion in melts. Based on the results of time dependence and compositional dependence of volatilization combining the results of conductivity, the rate determining process of the volatilization was suggested. From the viewpoint of the production and the application of TV glass it was also discussed a correlation between the dependence of properties on $K_2$O/R$_2$O and the present commercial composition.

  • The diffusion coefficients of ions in the reverse transport system using the carrier mediated membrane were estimated from the diffusional membrane permeabilities and the ion activity in membrane system. In the aqueous alkali metal ions-membrane system diffusional flux of alkali metal ions driven by coupled proton was analyzed. The aqueous phase I contained NaOH solution and the aqueous phase II also contained NaCl and HCl mixed solution. The concentration of Na ions of both phases were $10^{0},\;10^{-1},\;10^{-2},\;5{\times}10^{-1}\;and\;5{\times}10^{-2}\;mol{\cdot}dm^{-3}$ and the concentration of HCI in aqueous phase II was always kept at $1{\times}10^{-1}\;mol{\cdot}dm^{-3}$. Moreover, the carrier concentration in liquid membrane was $10^{-2}\;mol{\cdot}dm^{-3}$. The results indicated that the diffusion coefficients depend strongly on the concentration of both phases electrolyte solution equilibriated with the membrane. The points were interpreted in terms of the energy barrier theory. Furthermore, eliminating the potential terms from the membrane equation was derived.

  • To apply PDP panel, Soda lime glass(SLG) is cheeper than Non-alkali glass and PD-200 glass but has problems such as low strain temperature and ion diffusion by alkali metal oxide. In this paper suggest the methode that prohibits ion diffusion by deposing barrier layer on SLG. Indium thin oxide(ITO) thin films and barrier layers were prepared on SLG substrate by Rf-magnetron sputtering. These films show a high electrical resistivity and rough uniformity as compared with PD-200 glass due to the alkali ion from the SLG on diffuse to the ITO film by the heat treatment. However these properties can be improved by introducing a barrier layer of $SiO_2\;or\;Al_2O_3$ between ITO film and SLG substrate. The characteristics of films were examined by the 4-point probe, SEM, UV-VIS spectrometer, and X-ray diffraction. GDS analysis confirmed that barrier layer inhibited Na and Ka ion diffusion from SLG. Especially ITO films deposited on the $Al_2O_3$ barrier layer had higher properties than those deposited on the $SiO_2$ barrier layer.

  • To study the effects of surface structure of fiber on the decrement of fatty soil removal at high temperature, the following variables were selected: controled and alkali-treated P.E.T.(polyester) fabrics and chopped fibers as substrates to estimate the detergencies, different aging methods of soiled substrates, and different washing temperatures and surfactant solutions. Radiotagged tripalmitin was used as soil and the detergency was estimated by means of liquid scintillation counting method. The results were as following: The surface of the fiber became rough with many grooves and the hydrophilicity of the fiber was increased and the structure of the fabric became loose by alkali treatment. While the detergency of alkali-treated P.E.T. fabric was better than that of controled P. E. T. fabric, there was no significant differences between the detergencies of controled and alkali-treated chopped fibers. These results indicate that the increment of detergency of alkali-treated P.E.T. fabric is mainly resulted from the changes of fabric structure and the improved hydrophilicity of fiber by alkai treatment. The detergency of tripalmitin was increased with elevating temp. below the m.p. of tripalmitin, was decreased around the m.p., and again was increased above the m.p ..It is considered that the decrement of detergency around the m.p. is due to the diffusion of molten tripalmitin into the grooves on fiber surface, the inner part of fiber, and between fibers. When controled and alkali-treated soiled fabrics and soiled chopped fibers were washed in the distilled water and in the Na-DBS solution respectively, below $60^{\circ}C$ detergencies of alkali-treated fabrics and chopped fibers were improved. However above $60^{\circ}C$ this result was reversed. Therefore these results are regarded as the effects of grooves on fiber surface at high temp. and improved hydrophilicity at low temp. by alkali treatment. When controled and alkali-treated soiled fabrics and soiled chopped fibers were hot-aged before washing, the detergencies of both species were decreased generally. Because the soil was diffused into the grooves on fiber surface, the inner part of fiber, and between fibers during hot-aging. The detergencies of hot-aged species were also decreased above certain temp.. These results suggest that the decrement of detergency at high temp. be resulted not only from the diffusion of soil into the grooves on fiber surface, the inner part of fiber, and between fibers, but also from the characteristics of surfactant solutions.

  • Migration of leachate generated through embankment of construction waste soil (CWS) in low-lying areas was studied through physical and chemical analysis. A leachate solution containing soluble cations from CWS was found to have a pH above 9.0. To determine the distribution coefficients in the alkali solution, column and migration tests were conducted in the laboratory. The physical and chemical properties of CWS satisfied environmental soil criteria; however, the pH was high. The effective diffusion coefficients for CWS ions fell within the range of $0.725-3.3{\times}10^{-6}cm^2/s$. Properties of pore water and the amount of undissolved gas in pore water influenced advection-diffusion behavior. Contaminants migrating from CWS exhibited time-dependent concentration profiles and an advective component of transport. Thus, the transport equations for CWS contaminant concentrations satisfied the differential equations in accordance with Fick's 2nd law. Therefore, the migration of the contaminant plume when the landfilling CWS reaches water table can be predicted based on pH using the effective diffusion coefficient determined in a laboratory test.

  • The mixed alkali silicate glasses doped 0.1 mol% $Fe_2O_3$ are fabricated for studying the effect of transition metal oxides, which is related to the $Li^-$ ion movement in Magic-Angle-Spinning NMR. We have investigated the spin-lattice relaxation times in the room temperature and measured the $^7Li$ MAS-NMR spectrum with temperature. When the $Fe_2O_3$ oxides are added in alkali silicate glasses, the width of spectrum is changed a little but the line shape is hardly varied. For this reason, we can think that the mixed alkali effects are shown sufficiently in the spin-spin relaxation processes. However, it is not mixed alkali effects in this case. The activation energy of $Li^-$ ions are diminished in mixed alkali glasses. From the analysis of $Li^-$ diffusion environment, spin-lattice relaxation time and the nuclear magnetization, it is confirmed that the alkali mixed effects are not shown in $^7Li$ spin-lattice relaxation processes.

  • For self-developed alkali-alkaline earth-silicate and commercial glass melts for plasma display panel substrate, the corrosion behavior of fused casting refractory consisting of $Al_2O_3-ZrO_2-SiO_2$ was examined at the temperature corresponding to $10^2\;dPa{\cdot}s$ of melt viscosity by static finger methode. The corroded refractory specimens showed a typical concave shape due to interfacial convection of melts at their flux line. However, the corrosion thickness by commercial glass melts was $6\sim10$ times comparing to that by the self?developed melts. From the view point of the glass composition and the role of alkaline earth in glass network, it was discussed the effect of alkali/alkaline earth diffusion and temperature on the refractory corrosion.

  • Organic-inorganic hybrid perovskite have attracted significant attention as a new revolutionary light absorber for photovoltaic device due to its remarkable characteristics such as long charge diffusion lengths (100-1000nm), low recombination rate, and high extinction coefficient. Recently, power conversion efficiency of perovskite solar cell is above 20% that is approached to crystalline silicon solar cells. Planar heterojunction perovskite solar cells have simple device structure and can be fabricated low temperature process due to absence of mesoporous scaffold that should be annealed over 500 oC. However, in the planar structure, controlling perovskite film qualities such as crystallinity and coverage is important for high performances. Those controlling methods in one-step deposition have been reported such as adding additive, solvent-engineering, using anti-solvent, for pin-hole free perovskite layer to reduce shunting paths connecting between electron transport layer and hole transport layer. Here, we studied the effect of alkali metal halide to control the fabrication process of perovskite film. During the morphology determination step, alkali metal halides can affect film morphologies by intercalating with PbI2 layer and reducing $CH3NH3PbI3{\cdot}DMF$ intermediate phase resulting in needle shape morphology. As types of alkali metal ions, the diverse grain sizes of film were observed due to different crystallization rate depending on the size of alkali metal ions. The pin-hole free perovskite film was obtained with this method, and the resulting perovskite solar cells showed higher performance as > 10% of power conversion efficiency in large size perovskite solar cell as $5{\times}5cm$. X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES) are analyzed to prove the mechanism of perovskite film formation with alkali metal halides.
