  • Generally, UFF A(Ultra Fine Fly Ash) has merit that advances a greater concrete workability and activates a greater pozzolanic reaction than common fly ash due to its ultra fine particle size. These properties enhance concrete durability by reducing permeability and increasing resistance of alkali silica reaction(ASR) and sulfate attack, etc. Due to these reasons, UFFA can be used in a rapid setting concrete. The purpose of this study is to develop and evaluate the rapid setting concrete with UFF A as a repair material for early-opening-to-traffic. In previous studies, if only UFFA is added to the rapid setting concrete mixture, pozzolanic reaction doesn't happen actively. Therefore, in this study, the chemical and physical tests were performed for rapid setting concrete with UFFA including calcium hydroxide and the activity of pozzolanic reaction was evaluated. Finally, the effectiveness of this mixture on enhancing concrete durability was investigated. As results, adding UFF A decreased the water/cement ratio of concrete, and compensated the reduced portion of the early strength of concrete. Also, rapid setting concrete with UFFA including calcium hydroxide activated a greater pozzolanic reaction than normal-UFF A concrete. As calcium hydroxide increases, electrical indication of concrete's ability to resist chloride ion penetration is promoted significantly.

  • It was investigated that effects of NaOH concentration on synthesis of mesoporous materials using municipal solid waste incinerator ash slag (MSWI-ash slag). In order to increase the purity and maximize the amount of extracted Si content the raw MSWI-ash slag was mechanically activated. Extraction of Si from the MSWI-ash slag was carried out by alkali treatment using concentrated NaOH solution, which varied from 1M to 4M. Physical properties (i.e., pore size, specific surface area and total pore volume) of the synthesized mesoporous silica were also evaluated as a function of NaOH concentration via BET, SEM, TEM and small-angle X-ray scattering analyses. Over the entire range of NaOH concentration investigated (i.e., 1-4M), the synthesized mesoporous materials were determined to be SBA-15, which exhibited a hexagonal structure with the pore size of approximately 7 nm. On the other hand, specific surface area and total pore volume increased with NaOH concentration up to 3M while the values decreased at 4M, indicating that the optimal NaOH concentration for the synthesized mesoporous silica was approximately 3M. Further comparison analysis between two conditions (3M versus 4M) showed that the decrease in two physical properties at 4M NaOH concentration was likely due to the potential inhibition by excess Na ions on the formation of mesophase and the consequent increase of pore wall thickness by remaining Si ions.

  • For safe and easy disposal of prochloraz wastewaters after used as rice seed disinfectant in Korean farms, this experiment was carried out. By addition of several agricultural materials commonly utilizing in farmers, removal effect of prochloraz from waste solution was also investigated. When rice seeds after soaking in diluted prochloraz solution were rinsed with water several times, prochloraz was removed $9.2\sim10.6%$ at the first rinse and less than 3 % at the fourth rinse. A half life of prochloraz was $4\sim5$ days in aqueous system. Hydrolysis of prochloraz was more rapidly in alkali solution than neutral and acidic one at $25^{\circ}C$ and $35^{\circ}C$. By the irradiation under $5530J/cm^2$ using xenone lamp, prochloraz was photo-degraded to 87.7% in aqueous system. The removal efficiency of prochloraz by addition of several agricultural materials were as follows: 93.6% by lime, 90.7% by composed pig manure, 89.4% by activated charcoal, 78.0% by straw ash, 70.3% by sandy loam soil, 47.0% by zeolite and 24.1 % by rice straw. When prochloraz solution was sprayed on the field soil, it was dissipated upto 90% within 35 days.

  • Flame retardants are added to prevent catching fire and to slow down the burning process. PBDEs are known to affect thyroid hormones and hormone disruption. The aim of this study was to propose a manual for determination of PBDEs, and investigate the accumulation of PBDEs(BDE-28, 47, 99, 100, 153, 154 and 183) in fish&shellfish and human milk samples. Pre-treatment for PBDEs determination, alkali digestion and L-L(Liquid-Liquid) extraction method could be applied to fish and shellfish. When Multi-layer column was used for cleaning up the sample, 50 mL of hexane and 100 mL of hexane:dichloromethane(9:1) solutions were used for pre- and post-elution, respectively. Activated-carbon column was optimized by a 100 mL of hexane:dichloromethane(3:1). The result of fish, highest concentration was detected in flatfish, 890 pg/g(wet weight). The other side, lowest concentration was detected in pollack, 40 pg/g(wet weight). The result of breast milk, PBDEs was detected 2,580 and 3,600 pg/g(lipid weight) from breast milk of Seoul and Juju, respectively. BDE-153 and 183 were not detected in all samples. There was no difference in PBDEs level was not difference between first and second delivery. In this study, we could find that PBDEs level in Korea is lower than other countries.

  • Taro-UF mixed type resin system was developed for gluing plywoods. The taro adhesive that was activated with sodium hydroxide was mixed with the definite ratios of UF resin adhesive. At the sametime, wheat-UF mixed type resin was also applied with the same method as taro-UF mixed type resin The mixing ratios of taro or wheat adhesive: UF resin were 0:100, 10:90, 20:80, 30:70, 40:60, 50:50, 60:40, 80:20, and 100:0 by weight. In addition, the UF resins extended with wheat powder at the extending ratios of wheat powder UF resin, 10:90, 20:80, 30:70, 40:60, and 50:50 by weight, were also used. The dry and wet shear strengths of the plywoods of 30:70 (taro adhesive : UF resin) mixing ratio were highest. The dry shear strengths of the plywoods manufactured with the UF resin-mixing taro adhesive were higher than those of the plywoods with the UF resin-mixing wheat adhesive at 10:90, 20:80, 30:70, 40:60, 50:50, and 60:40 (taro or wheat adhesive: UF resin) mixing ratios. At all mixing ratios, the wet shear strengths of the plywoods manufactured with the UF resin-mixing taro adhesive were higher than those of the plywoods with the UF resin-mixing wheat adhesive. The dry and wet shear strengths of the plywoods manufactured with the UF resin-mixing wheat adhesive were higher than those of the plywoods with the wheat powder-extending UF resin at the mixmg ratios, 10:90, 20:80, 30:70, and 40:60 (wheat adhesive or wheat powder: UF resin). So, it was found that the plywoods manufactured with the UF resin-mixing taro adhesive and the UF resin mixing wheat adhesive had better shear strength than the plywoods with the wheat powder-extending UF resin. It was because the taro adhesive and wheat adhesive themselves took the bonding properties after being activated with alkali.
