  • Temporal and spatial characteristics of cyanobacterial communities at the monitoring stations for Harmful Algal Bloom Alert System (HABAS) in Nakdong River and Lake Dukdong were investigated for two years (2013 to 2014). A total of 30 cyanobacterial species from 14 genera were found at the survey stations. Microcystis sp. showed maximum cell density in the total cyanobacterial community in August, 2014 at ND-2 and in September, 2013 at ND-3 station. Lynbya limnetica and Geitlerinema sp., non-target species for alert criteria showed maximum cell density at ND-1 (August, 2013) and Dam station of Lake Dukdong (September, 2014), respectively. Total cyanobacterial cell density and the relative abundance of four target genera (Microcystis, Anabaena, Aphanizomenon and Oscillatoria spp.) for alert criteria was relatively lower in the mesotrophic Lake Dukdong than at the eutrophic riverine stations of Nakdong River, indicating cyanobacterial density and the RA of target genera is affected by the trophic state of the monitoring stations. Simulating the alert system using phycocyanin concentration as an alert criterion resulted in the longer period of alert issued compared to the period of alert issued using the current criterion of harmful cyanobacterial cell density due to the influence of phycocyanin concentration from non-target cyanobacterial species.

  • In the existing air traffic management (ATM) system, various types of safety alert features are provided based on trajectory data to ensure the safety of aircraft operations, along with aircraft position and detailed flight information. The urban air traffic management (UATM) system for urban air mobility (UAM) should also provide safety alert features to ensure the safety of UAM operations. Considering the operational environment of UAM, it is necessary that the safety alert features provided at least match or exceed those available in the existing ATM system. This study aims to present the safety alert features of the new UATM system that differ from those provided by the existing ATM system before introduction and commercialization of UAM. The study was conducted focusing on the safety alert features that should be provided in the event of a deviation from the UAM's path, and the establishment of the safety alert features was carried out in two parts: approach path monitor (APM), which is applied during the approach phase, and route adherence monitoring (RAM), which is applied during the cruise phase.

  • The CBS methodology has been standardized in order to make a rapid broadcast of emergency alert message for cellular users. However, the standard does not specify a retransmission request mechanism in the case that the users fail in receiving the alert message. Therefore, we propose a retransmission request scheme based on cognitive radio for the CBS technology in this letter. The simulation results confirm that our proposed scheme is very suitable for the retransmission method in CBS-based emergency alert broadcast systems.

  • In this paper, we propose an emergency wake-up alert system (EWAS) for providing accurate and rapid emergency information. The proposed system can provide an emergency wake-up alert service without an additional frequency allotment by utilizing the guard band of the Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) Terrestrial Digital Television (DTV) system. The design target of the proposed system is to match the indoor reception coverage of EWAS with the outdoor reception coverage of the ATSC DTV system. To achieve this, the proposed system should be about 35.65 dB more robust than the ATSC DTV system. The simulation results show that the proposed system offers an emergency wake-up alert service supporting a data rate of up to 23 bps.

  • Active electronically scanning antennas are faster and more flexible in beam-scheduling than mechanical antennas. Thus, they require an advanced resource management or detection methods to operate efficiently. In a surveillance radar performing periodic detection, alert-confirm detection is an excellent method to improve the cumulative detection probability by reducing the period while maintaining the detection probability. This paper proposes a design method for alert-confirm detection based on the parameters of the conventional design. We developed a simulator based on simulink@matworks and verified the result through Monte Carlo simulation.

  • In the generalization of mobile content use, feedback is a kind of alert that affects content immersion. An alert leads to separation from the content currently being used to transfer to content that raises the alert. Immersive interference can be recognized as a problem in mobile contents use. In this paper, we propose a serious game for overcomes immersion. interference from feedback and the foundation for interrelation research between feedback and immersion. The proposed serious game has been designed to present three kinds of feedback, specifically positive, negative, and hybrid feedback, through social information about the user. We also conducted an experiment to examine the correlation between three kinds of feedback and immersion while consuming digital content. The result of the experiment showed that negative feedback leads to higher immersion than positive feedback.

  • The types of service using location information are being various and extending its domain as wireless internet technology is developing and its application part is widespread, so it is prospected that LBS (Location-Based Services) will be killer application in wireless internet services. The MODB (Moving Object Database) stores and manages very large current/ past moving object data, so it is very important part in LBS platform. The performance of LBS platform is tightly depending on the performance of this MODB. The other important part is alerting engine in LBS platform, which is system to transmit various value-added information or notify emergency information to mobile phone after triggering specified events. This alert engine is supported as extended function of MODB, that is to say, the alerting function is closely related with MODB. So alert cartridge on MODB must provide not only moving point triggering about going into, going out specified geographical area but also batch alerting about nearest neighbor from specified geographical area. In this paper, we study of extended part on MODB to support the alert engine. And we design alert engine cartridge on MODB before implementing the system.

  • A study assessing driver acceptance level for various active safety systems against Korean drivers has been conducted. A 2013 Cadillac ATS model vehicle was tested along southern outskirt of Seoul including local roadway and interurban highway. Active safety systems included were FCA(Forward Collision Alert), LDW(Lane Departure Warning), SBZA(Side Blind Zone Alert), FRPA(Front/Rear Park Assist), RCTA(Rear Cross Traffic Alert), ACC(Adaptive Cruise Control), and AEB(Autonomous Emergency Braking). Participants experienced the FRPA, RCTA and AEB features in a controlled parking lot with a dummy vehicle and traffic cones as target obstacles. Remaining features have been tested on the accumulated stretched of 106 km long urban and interurban roadway. Series of questionnaires corresponding to each active safety systems have been conducted. Tentative results revealed that RCTA and SBZA systems received favourable ratings compared to the other ones.

  • Purpose: Whole-body CT is a very attractive diagnostic tool to clinicians, especially, in trauma. It is generally accepted that trauma patients who are not alert require whole-body CT. However, in alert trauma patients, the usefulness is questionable. Methods: This study was a retrospective review of the medical records of 146 patients with blunt multiple trauma who underwent whole body CT scanning for a trauma workup from March 1, 2008 to February 28, 2009. We classified the patients into two groups by patients' mental status (alert group: 110 patients, not-alert group: 36 patients). In the alert group, we compared the patients' evidence of injury (present illness, physical examination, neurological examination) with the CT findings. Results: One hundred forty six(146) patients underwent whole-body CT. The mean age was $44.6{\pm}18.9$ years. One hundred four (104, 71.2%) were men, and the injury severity score was $14.0{\pm}10.38$. In the not-alert group, the ratios of abnormal CT findings were relatively high: head 23/36(63.9%), neck 3/6(50.0%), chest 16/36(44.4%) and abdomen 9/36(25%). In the alert group, patients with no evidence of injury were rare (head 1, chest 6 and abdomen 2). Nine(9) patients did not need any intervention or surgery. Conclusion: Whole-body CT has various disadvantages, such as radiation, contrast induced nephropathy and high medical costs. In multiple trauma patients, if they are alert and have no evidence of injury, they rarely have abnormal CT findings, and mostly do not need invasive treatment. Therefore, we should be cautious in performing whole-body CT in alert multiple trauma patients.
